Kentucky about to lose to rpi anchor Vanderbilt.

i would think you are full on crow

Hell yeah. Sometimes crow tastes good though. Winking

I will say, I still don't think this team or any one player from this team ever accomplishes much in terms of winning in college basketball.

I hope to one day eat crow over that comment too.

if they could play most of the game like they play the last 5-7 minutes they would be a title contending team
hopefully they get it figured out

I don't think it's that simple. I really think they're figuring a lot of things out during the course of the game. And the reason you're seeing things play out that way is that's the point when they've finally got a team figured out.

I just don't think you can do that against a lot of better teams. The real title contenders.

Again if we can get enough of these guys back for another year I'll have hope. But I don't think 1 season is enough time for this team to have taken in enough to be able to make a run when it counts.

That said the comebacks are at the very least entertaining.

There was one point where Calipari put in Washington, Vanderbilt, SKJ and Knox in one substitution. Was talking to friend at the game and you see a team of All Americans all taller than the tallest Vandy player on the court. And I'm like dude, this is our lineup. This is a lineup that can win a title.

And Kentucky proceeded to lose a 4-5 point lead and go down as much as 17 after I said that.

Honest to God don't understand how this team doesn't just murder teams like Vanderbilt. It makes no sense to me. They could be so good but just aren't.

Because they aren't a team and haven't figured out how to play like one yet. I am skeptical that they will ever figure it out. They can't keep relying on 30+ point games from individual players to eek out massive comeback wins. They consistently get out-hustled, too. How the hell do you let freakin' Vanderbilt beat you on the boards? That is absolutely disgusting. I have never seen a team so inept at boxing out. They just ball watch as soon as a shot goes up and let their opponent go get it. It's also comical how easy it is to get these guys to bite on even the worst shot/head fakes. They are in the air in a millisecond at the first twitch of an opponent... all he has to do is wait for them to fly by and he's got an easy bucket. Happens at least 10 times a game. They just don't have a guy like AD, Nerlens, WCS, etc. that can erase mistakes like that and that is what is really killing them. Cal's teams that don't have a premier shot blocker have proven to be mediocre, at best. Also let them shoot damn near 50% from the field. I would like to know why Richards only played 12 minutes... he wasn't in foul trouble and was being very productive. Maybe he got hurt and I missed it, but that would be the only excuse for him not to see more clock. He was more productive in 12 minutes that PJ and SKJ in 45. Anyway, UK had absolutely no business winning that game. Probably would've been better for them to lose it. They need a wake-up call somehow. I am not sure anything or anyone gets through to them though. Also, I will be glad when Diallo (aka Archie 2.0) is gone. That will be addition by subtraction. Dude is an athlete but that's about it. He sure as hell can't play basketball. 2 points, 1 board, and 1 assist in 21 minutes. He did manage to come away with 0 fouls though, only because he doesn't get close enough to anyone on defense to commit one. They will be much, much better off when Baker and Herro are getting those minutes next season. They'll probably be duds on defense too, but at least they can score. End rant.... :D

Bryce Drew looked shell shocked in the post game interview. It's like he watched a magic trick and couldn't figure out how it was done.

Very tough beat for Vanderbilt. I'm glad UK won but equally sad for those Vandy kids. Man, what a tough beat.

Kenny Payne summed it up perfectly. " I mean my hat goes off to them because they played so hard and you could say they deserved to win, but welcome to Kentucky."

Diallo looked so good early in the season. Had a stretch where he scored like 20+ in 4 straight games I wanna say. Guess opponents got scouting on him know the few things they have to do in order to keep him from scoring.

Plus we had the ball in his hands early in the season and have shifted more to SGA as our defacto play maker now. Or Knox when he has it going.

Diallo would have been better off as a bench player for teams like Virginia or Nova. A 6th man. He could have come in for 20 or so minutes a game and not be relied on to make plays. He could have just showed off his natural abilities and been kind do a hustle guy in that role and not get exposed by being relied on to make basketball plays he's not good at. Which is what's happened to him here.

Cal built him up as a go to guy and leader for this team in the off season and he's nowhere near that at this point. Just doesn't have the skill set.

Yeah he pushed off a little. Not surprised to see you guys only mention that questionable no call and not mention the 100% clean block Washington got whistled for just a minute earlier. So basically two questionable calls in OT, one went Vandy's way, one our way. We just happened to score off ours while Lee bricked the FT's he shouldn't have been shooting.

Game was officiated very well. Vandy just choked.

What do you think happens in every Duke thread whenever Duke gets a call/no call in their favor? There can be 3 calls in a row go against Duke and then one goes for them and the usuals start whining. It is the only reason I even said anything.

Either way, this isn't about Duke, so I will end my rant. Congrats on the win.

No UK fan should ever enter a Duke thread complaining about the refs. Knox pushed off bigger than shit and the foul was on the floor. If there was a foul.

Vandy TWO best players had 4 fouls with 12 minutes left and neither fouled out in the final 17 minutes of play. Don't be an idiot.

I suppose you didn't want the refs to call a foul at the end of regulation when SGA was steamrolled?

The only thing I took away from Drew tonight, is that he thought all they had to do was believe that they could win for 40 minutes.

Anyone else notice Kentucky won the game in OT with Hami on the bench? No coincidence IMO. Green and SGA are much better together with Knox at the 3

Hami just isn’t very good. World class athlete but doesn’t shoot it well at all. I just don’t see how he goes pro after this year.

I'm sorry. This is pretty negative. I'm just tilted right now. Tired of rebuilding every other season.

Cal is a better coach than this too. He's not doing a terrible job coaching. This roster is just...trying to win with freshman every year...idk. Just think he's selling himself short. He could get some guys that would stay and actually develop them...like I think he could have taken some of tubby smiths rosters(not all of them because no one was winning big with sheray Thomas and woo starting) and done some pretty amazing things.
Thi$ i$ what he $old his $oul for. Got exactly what you a$ked for in hiring him.

Ju$t too bad Duke came along and ruined your party of one-and-done$.

Wow this thread was the equivalent of a voodoo hex on Vandy. I hope you’re a KY fan and that was your intent Montana, because otherwise this is the single worst example of angering the basketball gods I’ve ever seen.

Only in the tournament, struggling against BAD teams shouldn’t be shrugged off.

Wrong! Teams are gonna have bad games against bad teams no matter who you are. UK starts all freshman so it’s especially the case for this team. We are young so what do you expect?

Don't think we can forgot the emotional comeback win the game before, either.
I was just saying that a win like last night is only a positive if it’s in the tournament. I understand about the emotional falloff, but last night Kentucky looked like they have been, minus the second half of Saturday’s game and the whole game against us.

Your team looked last night like they have for 80% of the season. You’re confusing one good half against WVU as the norm.

he is not as good as Archie

Love the 'premature' threads.... how on earth does this continue on message boards...especially with UK. Unless its a blowout (20 or more), you'd think people would learn never to count UK out until the final buzzer.

Yep agree with all this. Not good on defense, bad in transition, not good at rebounding, not very good at shooting. Also bad at lobbing. Diallo is very predictable. He's like a mix between Goodwin and Joe Crawford except he can't shoot like Crawford and not as good at slashing as Goodwin. He doesn't cause charges as much as Goodwin. So, that's something.

Would definitely have liked to see the team build off Saturday, but this loss would have killed our RPI, which is surprisingly pretty good. Maybe this team will never be consistent, who knows. The "we start only freshman" card doesn't sound so promising in February.

I think you'll find out in these next 4, since 3 are on the road..

Because it took the basketball gods for your team to beat a bad team, what don’t you understand? If not for a STUPID foul, y’all would have lost at HOME to a horrible Vanderbilt team. People scrutinizing games is what this board thrives on, if you can’t handle it then go stay on rafters.

Poor, poor us... All we have is 5 stars. Herro was just upgraded to a 5 star for next year. We have a great start for 2019, and the #1 in the class loves UK.

Thanks Louisville fans we shouldn’t celebrate that win. As a matter of fact I wish we would have lost the damn game. Wins like that should count in the loss column.

Is that better?

....more standard 'ifs and buts' from you. Not surprising.

"Scrutinizing games" and going all postal on the team, Cal, etc. just makes one look stupid when the game ends with UK getting the W. Comprende'?

Not to sound cliche but every single game for a group of freshman is notches of experience. Senior led teams are more than likely at their ceiling. But with UK they will still look very different in march than they do today. IMO, they need to find their right combo of starters. Everyone is still trying to figure out their roll.

In my opinion the "tweak" Uk needs is having Knox as a small ball PF and start 2 PG's.

Just amazing how some teams just play great for 35-38 minutes and then just collapse the final 2-5 minutes. Was thinking the same thing watching the OU-Baylor game. Has to be all about coaching.

I call it “Mark Stoops Syndrome”, our FB coach at UK. Gets a lead and then his butt puckers up so tight he could open beer bottle with it. Team senses the fear and gets tight also - hence blowing the game.
