Taking a quick peek at the Naismith list, it's interesting to see the breakdown by class. I'm guessing it's never been older. Between the COVID year, NIL and the transfer portal, I'm guessing this will be closer to the norm moving forward.

5th year guys - 8
Seniors - 12
Juniors - 7
Sophs - 3
Freshman - 0

Obviously it's a poor freshman class by historical standards but only 3 underclassmen is wild.

Looks like four teams have two guys on the list; Purdue (Zach Edey, Braden Smith), Kansas (Hunter DICKinson, Kevin McCullar), Houston (Jamal Shead, LJ Cryer), and UNC (Armondo Bacot, RJ Davis)

It's fun just having one on the list for once.

KU, UNC and Purdue getting those 2 guys in is ridiculous. Braden Smith over Cam Spencer or Jeremy Roach seriously?

Bacot and McCullar are getting in on name reputation alone.

Yeah, it probably has nothing to do with McCullar averaging 20 ppg, 6 boards, 5 assists, and 2 steals on a team with Hunter Dickinson.

Those dudes may well be deserving but to discount Braden Smith is foolish IMO.

The list of guys to average 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists while shooting 42% or better from three in the last 30 years:

Denzel Valentine 2015-16
Braden Smith 2023-24

That's it.

Pelle Larson on Arizona is a better frontcourt player than McCullar and he's not on it which is highway robbery.

Larson has 9.1 BPM and is shooting 60/43/80. He doesn't have the volume stats that McCullar does because his usage is much lower since Zona has a bench and KU doesn't.

That is impressive, the stats don't catch your attention at first glance.

It's highway robbery that a player who averages 13 and 4 isn't on the short list for NPOY?

If he's a legit NPOY candidate and Lloyd is playing him less than 30 mpg and getting him only 8 shot attempts per game, he has to be the dumbest coach in the country.

Smith is the 3rd best PG in the Big Ten and 6th best guard in the BIG.

Makes total sense.

Yeah, I don’t think he’s anywhere near the NPOY. He’s basically a coaches dream. It’s very cliché, but he’s never up and down, plays the game the right way, he’s a team player, etc.. He will be an NBA player.
