Inspiration, Fast Food and Some Other Stuff. Just a Little Bit of Everything Pretty Much

Eastern North Carolina BBQ. Don't get tricked into western NC or South Carolina BBQ.
If Anyone is ever in the southern mountains of North Carolina there is a really good BBQ spot in Cashiers. They have all 3 Carolina options, but eastern is the only real option.

There's also a really good place in Dillsboro. This is where you will get the best brisket.

Where the heck you been?

And just to clarify, you want us to go the Western edge of North Carolina to try some Eastern North Carolina BBQ?

Haywood Smokehouse is phenomenal. Great stuff. And fortunately, my work is just 10 minutes away.

I'll have to take your advice on the BBQ in Cashiers. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm just an hour away.

My dad has retired to Wilmington. I've been wanting to check out his place. Was trying to do something this summer and compare Carolina bbq to Memphis.
Well, you know Wilmington is where I live. It's a boring place if you're not into fishing, boating or the beach and don't like golf. Sadly we don't have a stand out BBQ spot. But this is a nice place on the river.

Not to be totally gay or anything, but the sunsets here are easily the best in the area.

We spent a long weekend in Dillsboro at the beginning of the year. Absolutely loved it. We got a cabin in Bryson City for a week at the end of May. So looking forward to it.

Boots steakhouse in Dillsboro is probably the best steakhouse I have been to. It's not the cheapest, but very good.

I will have to make another trip soon. I absolutely loved Charlotte when I was there. Cleanest big city I have ever been to. It was well kept and everyone was super friendly. Even with me wearing me Kentucky blue :) I’m sure people felt very indifferent about me being there. Kentucky fan on Saturday, Panthers fan by Sunday.

I will keep Cookout in mind. I also want to try some Carolina BBQ
Carolina BBQ is different things depending which part of Carolina you're in. I like Lexington (NC) style bbq.

It's a nice, quiet area. There's always something to do outdoors. And there are cool, ritzy areas too like Cashiers.

If you drive just a little east of Cashiers, you'll run into the Pisgah Forest area. There are over 250 waterfalls in that county. Lots of exploring to do there.

That is part of our plans. I know we're going to do the deep creek trail. Looking to do some tubing or rafting. Maybe both. Wife wants to do the smokey mountain train ride. I plan on doing a lot of hiking.

We went to a couple of waterfalls while we were up there. Dry falls was cool. Crowded, but worth it. I forget the name of the big one near SC. That is really awesome though.

It's weird for me to see things like the Deep Creek and the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad discussed on here. This is such a small community. Sometimes people complain about this being a boring area, I suppose because we don't have malls and endless amounts of retail shops and restaurants. But, it's a great place to live if you love the outdoors.

I have lived in North Carolina my entire life and never even gave the mountains a thought until this year. We typically pick a Caribbean island to vacation at. But of course all of our trips were canceled. Went to the mountains in January as kind of a spontaneous trip and loved it. We have friends who go to Bryson City a lot and recommended it. But I found a cool hotel in Dillsboro and never went to Bryson City. This time it will be a planned trip.

I am more interested in the trails than my wife. She likes to do touristy stuff. But she'll get over it.

Alll in all, did I help or profit?

think of trusting. they know dick about finances and the terms.

I like to think I help, but assholes/rich ppl, then it's time to profit.

Socitiety holds on to ppl from Kentucky are slow. This works in our favor.

I am giving my one and only experience in the city. I am from Louisville and live in a surrounding county still. It’s a much smaller city but I felt Charlotte was better kept and just nicer.

Love me some mustard. Think Sonny’s or a place in Tallahassee used to have an awesome sweet mustard sauce.

Ugh Sonny's is some of the worst BBQ I've ever had in my life. Went there as a grad student at FSU once and never went again.

I don’t eat their chicken anymore. They’ve really gone downhill since Sonny himself isn’t running things anymore and too many franchises. Their smoked turkey on garlic bread is awesome tho!
