If you had to replace YOUR coach now?

I'm reading a lot of comments regarding the Chris Mack to Louisville hire. Some are rival fans who are downplaying the quality of the hire, and that's fine. My feeling is simply it was a "good" hire in the current landscape of realistically available coaches. There just aren't that many coaching "stars" out there possibly available right now who would be considered a home run hire for any upper level program. I'm wondering, from the upper level programs, who they would currently target and feel they would have a realistic chance of landing, if they were currently searching to replace their head coach. Your thoughts on YOUR program?

Who is the AD that keeps hiring these coaches that everyone wants to poach.
I think Mack was an excellent hire with the Addidas thing still hanging around.

We would be screwed unless we have another high profile alumni coaching somewhere that is about to get booted out of his current position for multiple DUIs at the same time Huggs steps down.

I honestly think huggs can convince frank Martin to leave a program like south Carolina.

Better conference, better facilities, better program, pay him more... and he worships the ground Huggs walks on.

Is that even a good hire? If South Carolina just simply lost to Duke last season is he even still a coach? 1 NCAAT in 6 tries is a brutal average, that Final Four covers a lot of sins. He was solid at KSU but that was forever ago.

I think he's a good coach. Not sure how much better we could do.

He has an Elite 8 and a Final Four in 11 years as a HC.

South Carolina is a tough job.

I'd like Brad Stevens, although I'm not sure he is leaving the Celtics any time soon.

Michigan State: Tony Bennett, Virginia
West Virginia: Buzz Williams, Virginia Tech
Virginia: Mike White, Florida
Notre Dame: Porter Moses, Loyola Chicago
Arizona: Dan Majerle, Grand Canyon
Xavier: Travis Steele, Xavier Assistant
Michigan: LaVall Jordan, Butler
Purdue: Chris Beard, Texas Tech
Ohio State: Gregg Marshall, Wichita State
Texas A&M: Kevin Keatts, NC State

If Huggs can go another 5 years it might just be enough time for Joe Mazzulla the coach to come of age.

Possibly. Jerrod Calhoun might get a look first if he can turn Youngstown St. around.

Darris Nichols too. He's been on that Florida staff for 3 or 4 years now.

I'd like to get a somewhat proven head coach though. Buzz's name has been thrown around before.

No way VT would let us poach a coach from them. On principle alone they will add $1m to anything we offer.

I will say Fred Hoiberg for Kansas, but I get the feeling Buzz Williams could do some good things in Lawrence too.

The reason I said Fred is the same reason why many Kansas fans penciled in Bill Self if Roy were to leave. Kansas struggled against Illinois when Bill was coaching there. All the intangibles were there to be a great replacement for Roy. That’s why a lot of Kansas fans think The Mayor would be so logical at KU. For one, his Iowa State teams were a thorn in KU’s side. Secondly, he has a daughter that goes to KU. Lastly, Bill Self doesn’t go to the 4-guard offense without Hoiberg teaching him on and off the court how deadly the system could be. Plus, like Bill Self when at Illinois, Kansas fans respect the hell out of Fred Hoiberg.

Lots of NBA coaches being mentioned ITT. Idk about Kentucky, but I would love to see a college throw some money at David Blatt to come back stateside.

Dude is clearly brilliant, but was a total scapegoat in Cleveland.

Coach Cal hahaha. He started as a KU assistant and met his wife in Lawrence. Multiple titles with 2 blue bloods?

I actually championed for Cal to Kansas had Roy left the first time he flirted with UNC.

i think UK would give Donovan a call (again)
i think if UK called he would take it this time

for the future, i would keep an eye on Bobby Hurley and Archie Miller and see how they progress

I'm not sure Donovan ever comes back to college. He was clearly tired of the extra stuff in college basketball that he doesn't have to deal with in the league(recruiting, NCAA bs).

But, when Cal took over at UK and proceeded to whip Donovan's butt over the next 6 years there had to be part of Donovan thinking (If I was at Kentucky I could get any player I wanted). Donovan also complained about lack of support for the bball program on mutliple occasions while he was at Florida.

the lack of support is the main reason why he left

I know some fan bases Are rolling their eyes with names like Billy Donovan, Fred Hoiberg being thrown out there when it comes to Kansas or Kentucky fans desires, but I do think both coaches don’t have the long-term job security in the NBA like Brad Stevens. Neither of them have said they envision themselves in the NBA only. I think under the right circumstances, like a blue blood program where recruiting is much easier, they may return to college.

I really do think Stevens is in the NBA for the majority of his career unless he returns to the college game in his twilight like Larry Brown. As for Donovan and Hoiberg, I do think there’s a realistic chance they find their way back in the college game in the next 2-5 seasons.

Donovan went to OKC thinking he was going to have Durant as well.

I'm absolutely terrified of anyone KU's current AD would hire to replace Self. KU could have their pick of all the top up and coming coaches but he would hire the worst coach possible for the dumbest of reasons.

Hubert is not gonna be the next coach of Carolina.
This!!! One thing I would love for Roy to do is to get Jerry Stackhouse on his staff ASAP. He’s proven to be a good coach for the Raptors G-League team & has great AAU ties.
