I think it has to do with the SEC fans being used to being the top conference for college football forever and it gets to them that that football success hasn't translated to basketball success at the same level. In fact, the only team with historical greatness in basketball is the one school in the conference that doesn't even have a football team, Kentucky.

The sugar high has worned off and since then Pearl hasn't made it out of the first weekend. All of that SEC money and and they still can't win when it matters. Hell I can say San Diego State is a better program than Auburn and they're not even in a P5 conference.
