Isn’t it kind of laughable that a team with this much talent is having to run a zone defense? If I am a NBA GM I have major concerns over taking Bagley if he can’t play man defense. Weren’t the duke the fanboys saying Bagley was better than Anthony Davis as a freshmen? Davis certainly didn’t need to flanked by a zone defense.

You have lottery pick talent all over the roster but yet they can’t play man defense against guys that are less talented and smaller than them? They all better learn to play man or every single one of them has g league written all over them.

No. AAU has not been great at teaching man to man D, and especially team D concepts. Added to that, Duke is an extremely young team. It makes sense. Good zone is easier to teach than good team man to man. Great zone is as difficult to teach as great man to man, but they only need good right now with as much offensive talent that they have.

It seems to be working just fine for Duke. Coach K had to make adjustments to fit his team and he did. Right now this Duke team is playing for one another with a chance to advance to the Final Four and possibly win a national title. Sometimes you have to make adjustments and Coach K did. They have a lot of length so why not use it.

Worth mentioning that Izzo played his guys out of position to potentially help their draft stock. Coach S is trying to win a championship and dgaf about what these NBA GMs think today

I agree it’s working great for them but it’s not giving a lot of NBA GM’s a lot of confidence that these sure fire lottery picks can’t seem to grasp man defense against players that are not near as physically as talent as they are

Name one player that's a finished product after one year of college, that didn't improve his all around game?

I was told that Marvin Bagley was going to be better than Anthony Davis as a freshmen. Did AD struggle with man defense?

This is laughable. I'm sure lottery GMs are really afraid of drafting Marvin Bagely. I can't believe Carmelo Anthony or anyone else from Syracuse ever was drafted.

Will it be so laughable if Duke were to win the championship? I am not a lover of the zone defense, but man to man was getting us beat by the BCs and the St Johns of the world. We have made an elite eight team out of a first round exit team by switching to zone. It would be more laughable had Duke stayed with the man to man.

So by all means, laugh away.

What reputable person told you that?
There was a thread started by a very enthusiastic Duke fan that said that Bagley was going to be better than AD and Durant were in college. It was shot down by the vast majority of Duke fans. Especially considering that thread was started after he played his very first college basketball game.

So that fool takes one person's crazy take and tries to spin it. Some people....

I don’t think the zone will work against nova or we will see against Kansas. It will Be Interesting to see if coach K goes back to man if a team like nova or Kansas get hot From the outside. I just think it’s hilarious that the most talented team in college basketball is having to resort to running a zone defense. No issues with duke doing it and it’s a Smart move but it’s not a good look for these guys personally for the next level

I am terrified of Villanova if Duke makes it past Kansas. Won't lie. They have too many shooters. But the point is, why are we laughing at something that has made Duke a much better team and has gotten them further than most would have predicted them to be prior to the switch? Including myself.

And let's not act like it will have any effect whatsoever on where players get drafted. THAT is laughable.

Duke plays zone because they are a big with length. 4 of Duke’s top 7 rotational players are 6’10 and over. All Duke’s guard are tall or have big wing spans, but most besides Duval lack lateral quickness.

K adjusted to the roster he put together.

Anthony Davis is different player than Bagley. Bagley compares more with Kevin Garnett than anyone else.

Fair points. I am just saying Marvin better improve on defense or his career is going to follow more in line with Jalil Okafor than Anthony Davis

Woof. If you look up “hot take” in the dictionary, that is it.

And Marvin is averaging more points, more assists, and more rebounds than Davis, so my guess is that Marvin is doing just fine and will likely be an NBA player.

Davis could have had 30 a game if really wanted to in college.

So playing Zone and getting all the publicity of being an E8 team, possibly National Champion, is hurting Marvin Bagley's draft stock right now? I'd really like to here a reasonable breakdown of how exactly this could be true. Venture a guess that most GMs and scouts are aware of Bagley, Carter, etc. defensive abilities, liabilities, potential. I can't imagine this Duke team playing in a zone is going to change many minds in the slightest.

So let me get this straight. You think Marvin Bagley is a better player than Anthony Davis? Bagley is going to get dominated in nba if he doesn’t learn how to play defense.

Did I say he was better than Anthony Davis? I said Marvin could average more points than what he's currently averaging, which is historic currently in the ACC. You know how many talented players have come through the ACC?

Bagely banged your mom didn't he? Let's just get to the point.

I have a very annoying duke fanboy co worker that has been preaching this Bagley is the best college big man in the last 25 years. Cracks me up that he can’t play man defense though

Bagley is a great offensive player. No arguement there. Major defensive Liability however which has been my point from the start.

Great! He'll have plenty of time to work on his defense in the NBA and hopefully, that will calm your nerves!
