Crazy stats about your team

I think it’s safe to say Kansas absolutely would not have won the ACC in 2005, 2009 and 2015. I can’t recall how strong the ACC was in 2006 but that was a season where Kansas didn’t have an elite team so it’s likely that they wouldn’t have won the ACC that year. We can probably include 2014 in there as well. Most of the other years KU had an elite team so they would’ve been right there in the mix with anybody.

The consistency is really remarkable. Here's a comparison of KU verse the top-ranked ACC team before the Tournament. ACC has a 8-6 edge, but certainly a lot of those years would have come down to the wire.

2018
1. Virginia
4. Kansas

2017
3. Kansas
6. North Carolina

2016
1. Kansas
3. North Carolina

2015
4. Duke
10. Kansas

2014
3. Virginia
10. Kansas

2013
3. Kansas
5. Miami

2012
4. North Carolina
6. Kansas

2011
2. Kansas
3. Duke

2010
1. Kansas
3. Duke

2009
2. North Carolina
14. Kansas

2008
1. North Carolina
4. Kansas

2007
2. Kansas
4. North Carolina

2006
1. Duke
12. Kansas

2005
2. North Carolina
12. Kansas

KU would've done better than Duke in the ACC to be honest over the past 10 years and likely would be neck and neck with UNC and UVA. Their regular season success is incredible and they would be right near the top of the ACC year in an year out if they were in that conference.

It looks like UK and KU take conference titles for granted. Duke hasn't outright won an ACC regular season title since 2006 with Shelden/JJ I believe and haven't won a share of the crown since 2010. I hope we can take care of business and end that pathetic streak.

You will definitely win the regular season. Too bad it doesn't mean anything.

It means something when you don't win it for a decade, though. Any fan would obviously take two championships in that period over two regular season conference titles, but they aren't mutually exclusive.

It depends on the schedule. Some teams have won the regular season due to avoiding certain teams because of the schedule imbalance. Also, there is more talent and elite coaching in the ACC compared to the Big 12. Kansas has a monopoly on BOTH in the Big 12. Also, for many of the road venues in the Big 12, KU fans turn it into a virtual home game, which doesn’t give them a true road game feeling. They wouldn’t be able to do that in the ACC.

I do like the fact the Big 12 plays a true round robin! There is a no disputing their Championships.

#1 seed baby!

I am obviously kidding when I say the regular season doesn't matter. It's my go to response this year.

You could dispute some of KU's early titles during the streak due to an imbalanced schedule. I mean, you really can't dispute them winning the league at this point but they definitely had favorable conference matchups. I think they tied Oklahoma and Texas both in years where they only had to play the Big 12 South teams once. Those were years when most of the good teams were down there like Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and even Texas A&M under Gillespie.

You guys aren’t out of it. I don’t see anyone else beating you before the ACC Tournament.

Ahh, for some reason I thought the 14 in a row were done under round robins. I forgot about the Big 12 North/South.

Still have road games vs. Louisville and Syracuse. Plus, you guys would have to lose twice. Just not happening.

We still have @Syracuse @VaTech @UNC so losing twice is not out of the realm of possibility.

FWIW from 05-11 (streak years with north/south divisions), the North won 48.5% of the games vs the South. 326-346. The South teams also only had to play KU once.

I think 05 is the only really disputable title. We shared with OU but lost to them in Norman. OSU ended up winning the Big 12 tournament. In 06 & 08 we shared with Texas (lost in Ausitn both years) but beat them in the Big 12 tournament finals. 2013 we shared with KSU but went 3-0 against them including Big 12 tournament championship game.

I’m assuming that 326-346 record includes Kansas games? Take them away and it’s probably a little more lopsided.

I think it was in 2010 but Rick Barnes was asked about the streak at the time and he made a point of saying how Kansas wasn’t the true champion in each of those years during the streak. He seemed a little upset when he made that remark.

Yeah I certainly don't think we'd have won the ACC or any other power conference 14 years in a row but I don't think any other program would have won the Big 12 every year since 05. My point was that we'd be competitive every year in the ACC. If we had joined the ACC 15 years ago, its not like we'd be looking at consistent 4th-7th place finishes over that time.

That's fair. What separates the ACC from the Big 12 is the number of teams capable of being elite in any given season, so that it's not always just UNC and Duke playing for the 1 seed in the ACC Tournament.

Looking at it closer that's the total W/L for all conference regular season games during that stretch. Not only North vs South. The South teams only had to play KU once but yeah I agree the south was overall a little better year in year out.
Top 6 winning pct
KU 85%
UT 70%
aTm 62%
OU 55%
KSU 54%
MU 49%
