I think the livelihoods of my population of students are MUCH more at risk not going to school. This isn’t some high achieving school (news flash, most urban public schools aren’t) where my job is to get them a better SAT score or help them get into the college of their choice by constructing the perfect college admission essay. My school, and most that are in cities, are dealing w kids who need help from us on a daily basis. Our kids have so much more on their plates than where to put a fvcking comma. Missing another school year will continue to destroy an already fledgling portion of students. Is this true to ALL urban schools? No. But most of em, hell yes. It’s so rare for them to have real success that they make gotdamn movies when they do. So, again, to answer your question, not all kids need school as much as others, but nearly all city kids will be hurt much more by it than the suburbanites (of which I am one), for lack of a better word. Again, most. Just like most board members are egotistical blowhards.
As for my own kids, they’re spoiled to the core, and they should go back full-time, too. However, I won’t decide for all, so if you don’t want to go back to a school that feels normal (no masks), get your e-learning on. You have options. But, don’t deny the kids who want to go back full time and get back to some normalcy. We all have choices to make, and that’s one of the many things that makes this country great, choices.
And fwiw, here’s a link of a story Peoria made national news for recently. Saying that, we had some white trash bash on the river also make national headlines. White or black, it doesn’t matter. We got it all in the P. Winking
