Calipari and Romeo Langford's dad

Romeo says Calipari didn't know how to coach to adapt to the Canadian opponent.

Romeo's dad was mad that Calipari didn't play Romeo after saying he couldn't wait to coach him.
When a player thinks he knows more than the coach, he can go elsewhere, not wanted at UK

When a parent gets mad and takes it pubic about disagreement on how the coach is playing his son, then said kid needs to go elsewhere, not wanted, not needed, and the turmoil surrounding all that, is not wanted nor need at UK. Hopefully he finds the right fit for his son.

Borden came on here like a year or two ago saying how good he was and that he was a Duke lock. The fact that both schools ran away from him is quite telling imo.
He was a huge, huge Duke lean. Duke wanted him to go to prep school. Romeo didn't want t leave New Albany. Hence the end of the Duke recruitment. What is so telling of that?

UK didn't run away from him. Apparently the Langfords weren't happy with how Cal acted.. Apparently Cal wasn't happy with some things said..I dunno. Whatever the reasoning, I assure you it's nothing shady; as you were seeming to imply.

He is very, very good. Extremely good. You don't score 3,000 points in Indiana, and not be good. After all, only 4 have done so.

It was an observation. Langford is as humble as a kid as you will ever meet. He says what he thinks. I highly doubt he feels he knows more than Cal. Just felt Cal didn't adapt to what a team was doing. I mean they lost, right? So Imean, exactly how wrong was he?

Cal doesn't recruit players that are still sucking on their pacifier.
Stupid. Some just cannot take it when a recruit doesn't stroke Cal's ego. ROmeo is a very humbled, well rounded kid. He doesn't ecpect to be coddled. He certainly wasn't at New Albany.

I lol at the UK fans taking shots now.
Never fails. They do it with every recruit who doesn't go to UK. Or if if something negative is said. Kids probably the best scoring wing/guard in this class. Yet they didn't want him anyways. Cal saw his flaws, etc,etc...

The dad definitely seems to enjoy the press coverage. Nothing wrong with that, I suppose, as long as it doesn't become a helicopter situation once Romeo gets to campus (wherever that may be).

IDK. He seems to not like a lot about programs that stop recruiting him. I'm not sure why one feels the need to go there. I mean, what could you possibly dislike about a practice? They make you work too hard? Then you are critical of a coach (and it does seem it is because of PT)? Dude is a great player but needs to probably grow up a bit wherever he ends up.

I'm curious how all of this came about. I doubt the kid or his dad are the ones who
Brought it up. Likely a question asked and they answered it, papers just love to run with this stuff.

Borden, did you even read the top of the thread?

How in hell can you spin it that the kid or his dad refused to stroke Cal's ego?

They were not stroking Cal's ego, they were attacking the man's ability to coach. That is okay, but shit like that can be a cancer on a team. Is his dad going to be like Ball was at UCLA?

You can make fun of Cal and those stupid UK fans ability to read English; however, I don't want the kid near UK. Hell let him go to Indiana. They need another cancer.

GEEZE!

He was a Louisville lock because he lives 10 mins or less away when Porcini was the coach. Had we been able to hire Mack in September or all of this happened in the 16-17 season, he'd probably be headed to Louisville next year. Stinks.
I think UL would be a great place for him. Local kid. Be the man from day 1 for the resurrection.

That's exactly what it was going to be and would be if we are in September and Mack has just been hired. Or like I said all this had happened last year. It's wayyyyyy too late.

I mean... what do you expect? Langford's dad is bordering on Lavar Ball Level media comments. Regardless of truth, not sure why parent of any recruit would do that.

The only similarity is they are dads to basketball players. Sad part is it's what we've come to expect from you guys.

Attacking his ability to coach? You mean like the 400,000 BBN fans that do so every day? Or is that different? Tim was asked about Cal and UK. He answered. Sorry that answer hurt BBN feelings.

Not even close. Absolute worst comment I'e ever seen on here. He was asked about UK, and their recruiting of Romeo. He answered it. Sorry his answer hurt your guys feelings. The Langfords have been very tight lipped. Very few interviews. Nothing remotely close to Lavar Ball. Just an absolute God awful statement.

LMAO....A "cancer "? Dude was the most unselfish player I've ever seen. Maybe to unselfish. Very humbled young man. Stayed hours upon hours after games to sign autographs. Even after a gut wremching, buzzer beating loss in semi-state title game to #1 Warren Central----the kid stayed and signed autographs. Visited local hospitals...nursing homes. Just a well rounded young man. He never let his status go to his head. Never showboated. Not once did I ever see him do so. Always a team first guy.
If that' being a cancer, then I'l take that type of cancer on my team every time.

I mean... he's got a point here.
Sure he does. He attacked his ability to adapt vs Canada. I mean is it crazy to think some kids are smart enough to actually understand the game. Again , he was asked a question and answered it honestly.

I am the first to admit, and do it often enough that some on RR label me a troll and/or a Cal hater, that Cal is not a good in game coach, he either refuses to change up defense or offensive sets,or he does not know anything different, otherwise Cal would have at least 4 Nattys by now. Cal is a good recruiter, excellent judge of kid's character, and the best at melding freshmen together every year, that takes energy and love of the kids to try and help them live their dream. But a high schooler should not go public questioning a hall of fame college coach. I can question cal, but I am just a fan, AND I am 67 years old.

Triggered? Because of an opinion? You must really think IU fans ITT are triggered then.

I will gladly tell you why. Teenagers think they know everything, and actually don't know crap about anything, they have not had enough time to know what the questions are. Youngsters should be seen, not heard. That was how I was raised, with respect for your elders.

Stretch the truth much? You sure have been defensive lately, defending the awful officiating we have seen all over the country and now you have gone ballistic over criticism of an Indiana high school player, who should have done like all the rest and just not talk much.

We know he's your guy, Borden. Based on father's comments alone I'm calling an IU lock. Because it sounds exactly what some IU fan would say on Rivals.

But when you're father of a big recruit, not a good idea to burn bridges with a major program and coach. I'll give Mr, Langford a pass on part of being a media noob, but you can't make comments like this in the media and not expect backlash.

Lots of grown men these days are acting like teenagers. Luckily, Langford's father is with him (who happens not to be a teenager).

It does not hurt my BBN feelings at all. But your post totally ignores the problem he may have at any school he chooses.

It is a big difference if a fan of a program questions a coachs ability; however, when the father of a player and the player question the coach it is a cancer to team chemisty. If you don't believe that then fine, let it happen to your team.

If he is smart enough to understand the game then he should be smart enough to keep his damned mouth shut.

Why do you think Cal never called back?

Wasn't this an issue with the Harrisons part of their freshman year?

It may have been.

There can only be one boss, one coach.

The great coaches will not tolerate it, even though they may need the talent.

Everyone has to play from the same 'song book'.

I think that Loyola Chigago showed this year what under talented kids can do if they play as a team. What a great lesson. Let the guys that play and want to veto the coach go to Indiana.

Team Cancer is the absolute opposite of Romeo. Don't even get me started on some of the fabulous young men Cal has recruited (see Terrance Jones Beats Homeless Man for No Reason).

"They make you work too hard?" ... Yes, that sounds like an irrational assumption and makes you seem triggered. That comment falls right in line with most of the UK fan comments.

You have no idea what he might've noticed on his visit to CH, and neither do I, but I'm fairly certain that 'too much hard work' was not his reason for cutting UNC from his list.
