Romeo later told his father, Tim Langford, that Calipari "couldn't adapt to what was going on against Canada," Tim said.

Tim said Calipari, who selected Romeo to play for his U-19 Team USA at the World Cup in Egypt, told the Langford family months earlier in their New Albany, Indiana, home he couldn't wait to coach their son, both internationally and potentially at Kentucky.

Tim said he didn't like what he saw. He didn't see what Calipari said was going to happen.

"I just told him, 'You came in our house, said you couldn't wait to coach our son and do this and that. You had the opportunity before his back started bothering him. I didn't appreciate it because you said you wanted to coach him and you had the chance to do it.'"

He told his dad, despite what he saw in the huddle against Canada, he liked Calipari and wanted to keep Kentucky in the running for where he might play college ball. So Tim called Calipari again, asked to set up a visit in the fall and waited for the word.

"I don't have to play the game," Tim said. "Romeo does."

Calipari never called back.

And with that, Kentucky ended its courtship of Romeo. Though Romeo and his father briefly differed about Calipari, the hierarchy for decisions during Romeo's recruitment was established.

Good learning experience for Calipari. As for his coaching, his resume speaks for itself. Dumb thing for a parent to burn any bridges if you ask me. Obviously has IU leanings.

Maybe Kentucky should hire him as an assistant coach so Calipari could better manage game situations. jumpingsmile NOT!

I hope whatever team ends up with this kid understands what he may do. When the player thinks he understands the game better than the coach; good things rarely happen.

I gather this kid and his father don't think they know more than the coaches, but it's obvious they are looking for a certain style and specifically how a coach would use Langford in certain situations. It's apparent they don't like taking lip service. If you tell them you are going run this or that and you don't do it when the bullets fly? They are taking notice.

Cal plays too conservatively now. If that's what he's questioning than he's not wrong.

Personally I think they were just butt hurt Cal didn't play Langford despite the kid not being 100%.

It is what it is. Langford will be fine and so will Kentucky.

Per the article, the dad is saying Cal had the opportunity to play him before the injury since he said that's what Cal said in his living room.

I don't even really understand what that's saying
Calipari said he couldn't wait to coach Romeo.

Calipari selects Romeo for USA team.

Calipari doesn't play Romeo many minutes.

USA getting trucked by Canada.

Romeo says Calipari didn't know how to coach to adapt to the Canadian opponent.

Romeo's dad was mad that Calipari didn't play Romeo after saying he couldn't wait to coach him.

Romeo said he wanted to keep Kentucky as an option.

Romeo's dad called Kentucky to set up a visit.

Calipari never called back.

And Kentucky was no longer an option for Romeo due to that.

Calipari and overbearing parents don’t mix.

Hope he goes somewhere that will give him a lot of PT.

Seems kind of like Romeo was just mad he didn't get PT. He had some weird comments about Roy's practices as well. I've seen them so not sure what he could have an issue with there but his reasoning for things is a little odd.

Ku feeling pretty confident? 3 team race, correct? Vandy, IU, and Ku?

Not sure how confident Kansas feels, they only went and saw him a couple of times and Romeo didn't visit them during the season. Also a couple of Kansas commits predicted Romeo to Indiana last week.

I sure as shit am not counting Kansas out though.

He ain't wrong about Cal but this just screams petty bs because Cal (and Roy) moved on.

Romeo Langford has visited Lawrence twice though, I'm not sure I understand that one.

I'm also not sure what Langford is waiting on if not the decision of Newman and Vick.

Romeo didn't get playing time, so he is mad.
Then Romeo points out the obvious about Cal
Cal thinks this could be Lavar Ball 2.0, so he quit recruiting
Duke backed off of him too, I don't know why but this recruitment seems odd.

Borden came on here like a year or two ago saying how good he was and that he was a Duke lock. The fact that both schools ran away from him is quite telling imo.

Both schools are Nike.

Is he the kid that got upset with the Carolina fans for not chanting his name at late night or a game this year?

IU is adidas?

That is exactly the way I understood the diatribe.

God I am glad the kid will not be at Kentucky.

He was a Louisville lock because he lives 10 mins or less away when Porcini was the coach. Had we been able to hire Mack in September or all of this happened in the 16-17 season, he'd probably be headed to Louisville next year. Stinks.

No probably not. Once Pitino was fired and you were under FBI investigation UofL was done.

Cal doesn't recruit players that are still sucking on their pacifier.
