Big 12/SEC Challenge

For the most part they do a home/away series between 2 teams. So if you play a team one year, you're gonna play them again the next year.

Not sure why Auburn would've been left out last year. Maybe because they finished 11th in the SEC Standings in 2016-2017?

I don't know. Whoever is on the SEC's side here when it comes to scheduling needs to do a better job if there's not an exact criteria that they're working with.
If that were the case, UK would be playing West Virginia at home this year.

As long as your team wins, that’s what really matters. Auburn has lost just about all of its games this season vs quality opponents.

Yup, this is two years in a row that Auburn was left out. I thought for sure they would be in it this year simply because they were left out last year. That's a good team sitting on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Georgia, Texas a&m and Vanderbilt are in it.
Can you imagine the Duke, Louisville and North Carolina State Being left out of the ACC/BIG?challenge?

Perhaps Bruce Pearl is requesting that his team be left out?

The SEC has its top 3 teams playing, UofK, Tennessee, South Carolina, should be fun to watch.

How a 10-8 team is top 3 is beyond me. That’s awful perspective for the league
Yeah, South Carolina is blowing my mind. They lost to Stoney Brook in early November, then lost to freaking Wofford, like, who losses to Wofford.

But, they only lost to Michigan by 11 in December. Then they lost their next two (UVA and Clemson) by 17 and 10.

They decided to catch fire in the SEC. All of their games have been nailbiters except their one loss, which was to LSU by 22.

I can't figure them out.

Good thing UK only gets them once.

Bruce was upset about it last year. That guy is always all in for getting his team into the same. There's no way he would pass up the chance to play in this thing.

“Catch fire,” as in “playing crappy teams.”

Auburn and @Florida aren't teams I would put in the crappy category.
Teams that lose to Stony Brook and Wofford usually don't go on to beat Auburn and Florida type teams.

I have no clue how UF is ranked as high as they are on various metrics, but they haven’t beat a tournament team all year. They may not be “crappy” but they certainly aren’t very good.

Auburn is solid.

Don't forget Miss State. They're pretty doggone good too, & they couldn't lick our Cocks.

Also, any win at that freakin' thing Vanderbilt calls a gym is a good win.

For the lazy.

  • 12:00 p.m. - Florida at TCU
  • 12:00 p.m. - Alabama at Baylor
  • 12:00 p.m. - Iowa State at Ole Miss
  • 2:00 p.m. - Kansas State at Texas A&M
  • 2:00 p.m. - Texas at Georgia
  • 2:00 p.m. - South Carolina at Oklahoma State
  • 4:00 p.m. - Vanderbilt at Oklahoma
  • 4:00 p.m. - West Virginia at Tennessee
  • 6:00 p.m. - Kansas at Kentucky
  • 6:00 p.m. - Arkansas at Texas Tech
Thanks Lurk

TCU
Alabama
Ole Miss
KSU
Texas
OSU
Oklahoma
UT
UK
Texas Tech

Big 12.

I'll go
Florida
Bama
Iowa State
KSU
Texas
South Carolina
Oklahoma
Tennessee
Kentucky
TTech
So.. 5-5?

no excuses and also no reason to pay attention either. It's not a true conference vs conference challenge, just a bunch of mostly crappy games. Pretty much only 2 games stand out as possibly being good (ISU vs Ole Miss and K vs K)
I thought you were a fan of cbb
TCU/UF is KP 22 vs 26
Baylor/Bama is 45 vs 47
Both should be decent games as well.

Agree, somewhat. When they are hitting three's, they are really good. Missing Wiley vs UK was huge. Not saying they win with him....but it sure would have helped.
Iowa State is a solid win...14th KenPom

Murray State might be a better win that Washington.

Arizona is a good win; 14-5----Top 50 KenPom.

Their resume isn't that bad.
Which Iowa State team?

Exactly, the matchups strongly favor the BIG12. Maybe next year we should remove Iowa State, Texas Tech and Kansas State and see how the BIG12 does against the best the SEC has to offer.
KSU is gonna blow next year.. fine by me.

I think it should be top 7 play top 7, leave the scrubs at home. They shouldn't announce the lineup until after the first week or two in Dec, gives the home teams over a month to sell tix as well as settling matchups accordingly. Zero cares about where -in conference- the teams are at the time of the Challenge (scheduling matters).

The best coaches when planning their team schedules (off-season) will want to play in this competition, making early season schedules better (for a better chance for inclusion).

Totally lame Auburn hasn't played this or last season. Has to be coach's decision, no?
Can't imagine the SEC doesn't want to pimp out their best teams..

I definitely like those suggestions, I think it would make it a much more interesting challenge.

The way it sits right now, if the BIG12 wins the challenge, people will say well, the SEC was at a serious disadvantage because three of their best teams didn't even play.

So you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

However, if the SEC wins the challenge, the narrative will be ugly for BIG12 fans.

I will still enjoy the hell out of it either way, it just could have been done much better.

I wish we have Big12-SEC challenge in football every year.

That would add a lot of interest to the season.

I thought about saying this, but you know I love you Leroy, so I didn't.

Auburn is solid.

Florida has been a top 10 defensive team all season that can hold any team down to under their scoring average. However, UF's offense is lagging behind at times because of the lack of a reliable inside scoring offense. As a result of their struggles, Coach White has decided to go with three freshmen (PG Nembhard, SG Locke & SF Johnson) in their starting line-up recently.

Except for their first game, no one has blown out UF - most of their losses have been by 2-5 points. Against Michigan St, Tennessee, Miss St and others, Florida had their chances to win those games late only to lose them in the end.

KeVaughn Allen seemed to be coming on of late (scored 32 points against Texas A&M) and will play a key role down the stretch of how well Florida does. This TCU game will be another opportunity to pick up a quality win but it won't be easy as it's at the horn-frogs place.

Yeah, y'all's defense is stifling, it gave us tons of problems. I was totally pissed off for most of the game.

Kansas is a lot like Auburn (without Wiley) and Kansas (dok). the inside presence is lacking, although both have good 4's doing the heavy lifting inside. Auburn shoots way more 3's than Kansas and certainly makes more, at least at home. I don't think Kansas wins without superior 3 point shooting.

I'm looking forward to the Dotson Hagans match up. I think our bigs will be too much for Kansas.

Y’alls D is good. But just no identity whatsoever on O. Been a trend under White.

The truth is, the next top 40 win will be the first for UF this year.

I mean, y’all still scored 78 points on the road in a 66 possession game. Their D couldn’t have been THAT good in the game.

I'm torn between wanting South Carolina Carolina win because #SECSECSEC, and wanting them to lose so we can all have another laugh at the SCar posters.

Another close loss for Florida, 50-55.
Gators had their chances down the stretch but couldn't do it.

Good game TCU!

A few SEC teams will find themselves on the wrong end of the bubble because of games like these.

But to Kansas and Kentucky fans it really doesn’t matter. You lose—-you don’t give a **** about the challenge. If you win....you might get a little ammo come tourney time talk, but not really. I think UK and KU should always play each other in this.

Alabama continues their mercurial season. Beat Kentucky hang with Tennessee lose to Baylor. SEC teams not named Kentucky continue their tradition of being consistently inconsistent.

I'd be down with just making UK-KU a home and home for the duration of the challenge.

Agreed. Save West Virginia, Kansas is the only team in the Big 12 we care about playing.
