AJ Dybansta

He was going to Bama and Carolina games, having already signed a letter of intent to BYU! Seems like such a Dybansta thing to do!

Honestly, it seems like he should pay back money to any school if received any sort of compensation for air fare, tickets, meals, etc.

Obviously he can afford that. But, wtf does that? I know a lot of recruits know ahead of time where they're going and still take the trips. But, he ALREADY SIGNED!! Is there any precedent for this? Amazing how they kept this info on the dl.

Should void his NIL deal, imo (and still make him go to BYU as punishment).

Mission to be broke and not get laid. Welcome to @lurkeraspect84's world.

I've made 10's of dollars today. Working on the laid part.

Is BYU thinking he’s good enough to win them a title?
That's a lot of coin, even if it guaranteed a title, which is not possible.
This is one heck of a gamble, what if he gets hurt?
Something tells me they're going to learn a very expensive lesson.

What's the most a school should pay for the best player?

To further it, a generational talent?

According to a redacted Chicago Sun-Times article, UK paid Anthony Davis 200k.

For AD, a million, but there's no way any HS kid is worth 6 million.

Hope his posse tells him to put dome awsy for tax season. 😂

The time has come to where the player is making more than the coach....and AD.... combined

If the money is there I guess, but eventually donors are going to stop giving so much because they're going to see it's not worth it.

I would like to hear from BYU NIL donors on why they are putting uo so.much for this one guy. Like, what is their return.

Because they want a superstar forever linked to their school. Rick Barnes has gotten a lot of mileage out of letting recruits know he's coached Kevin Durant and LaMarcus Aldridge. BYU & Kevin Young want the same thing.

Kevin Young basically said he's going to make Provo a factory for the NBA. He means business. They have crazy NIL money. They're not going to win every recruit, but they're not going to whiff on recruits because of a lack of money.

But is that enough to pay a kid almost 7 million? To each his own I guess.
I just don't think that many people care where NBA superstars went to college.
We just had an NBA factory at UK, it's really not all it's cracked up to be.

Yeah, that's a really crappy thing to do. I don't care about the money but more the investment. You have staffs focused on you because you are lying to them when they could possibly focus their resources on a person they may actually have a chance with, though for UNC I have no idea who that may be right now. Like you said, the fact that he is signed is the difference IMO.

I think money wise Bama and UNC matched what he originally said and BYU went way over.

Here is what it's coming too with this wild ass NIL . All the Teams coaches can participate in a Calcutta event and try to buy these players in the top 100. If I was a pretty good player on BYUs basketball team and this freshman phenom is getting 4.5 mil, how would I handle that? Me with my shitty 250 grand.
I would really hate that to happen. Wee need some guardrails on this roller coaster...

5 mil for all three schools and Bama and UNC still lost out to BYU!?! Wow!

Also, this pitch is hilarious. I hope UNC offers Hubert a lifetime contract. Can't get enough of him. "Look what going to Duke did for Zion" bahahahaahah. I hear Baylor won over VJ Edgecombe by telling him, "Look what going to Texas did for Kevin Durant."

Also, this pitch is hilarious (if true). I hope UNC offers Hubert a lifetime contract. Can't get enough of him. "Look what going to Duke did for Zion" lololol.

Definitely not buying that he was offered $5M from all those schools.

Not buying that it was an even offer from all the schools. Also Nike was backing BYU in this recruitment. Now they would have paid him whether he went to BYU, Bama, or UNC but they have let it be known from the beginning that they were backing BYU the most here. It’s why Dybantsa moved to Utah Prep.

I can certainly understand the skepticism. In all things competitive you want to gain an advantage. So why not simply outbid the other teams?

But, is Matt Norlander not a reputable source? Seems like a great way to lose all credibility (which is certainly possible), if he's just throwing figures out there.

I think he's full of shit. That number far exceeds what any other player has been offered to this point as far as I am aware and this dude isn't the next KD, but we're supposed to believe there was a 3 school bidding war and all of them were offering $5M? It makes sense why the "financial advisor" would say that. He would certainly want that narrative out there. As far as him confirming that number with sources within all the programs, I doubt that. This is college basketball we're talking about. It's not the cash cow that football is.

Not buying what Norlander is selling. and he knows how Bama pieced together the offer. Man is he fast or what?😵‍💫

Revenue sharing will start next season, so that's an additional revenue stream. They can also use corporate sponsorships. I had heard from multiple UNC guys that UNC had offered 4M. So, it's not unreasonable that they could come close to that.

Bama has more question marks, though, as far as raising enough money. If it's NIL alone and no other income streams, Bama doesn't have a shot. But, players will certainly be receiving compensation outside of NIL collectives. I just don't think Alabama could have been a serious player if they couldn't come close to BYU's figure. Here are a couple of screenshots from insiders.... Of course, Zagoria is also saying BYU offered 7 M. So, if that's the case, BYU may have simply won the bidding contest.

Question becomes how serious of a player were the teams when Dybantsa had already signed his NLI and sent it to BYU a month ago?

I suppose Dybantsa could always asked to be released from his commitment. I mean, if he's still talking to the program, they have a shot.

@Kevin Bryan Okay, this is what I've read from a reliable insider. "$7M is likely close to the total number including what he got from BYU"

I heard Seton Hall has just a little over 1 Mil in NIL. Sheesh. No wonder everyone transferred out of there.

Holy shit, Bossi is a name I haven't heard in a while. Who is he working for now? Him and Jerry Meyer were good sources here back in the day.

He's with 247.
By the way, at Bama football has made a ton of money that can be used for any team at the university.
The donor base has increased well enough to support big time NIL funds. basketball is turning a nice profit as well and basketball donors have really expanded under Oats tenure

@Kevin Bryan Okay, I was just told that Zagoria's figure was correct. BYU offered around 7M. So yes, BYU most likely won a bidding war. Same person said that at least 90% of P5 programs don't even have 7M in their war chest. Wild.

I just think that leads to some big questions on what’s true and what isn’t true considering the guys feeding Bossi and Norlander and whoever else was claiming this information were the ones also “negotiating” with these other schools while knowing that Dybantsa had already signed an NLI agreement with BYU. Not saying I question that those guys were told these things but questioning more on the source they were receiving it from considering what we know now that Dybantsa has signed that NLI a month ago.

Also that’s a big thing for an agent to be negotiating NLI amount with one school while knowing that their guy was already signed to another. That’s bad faith negotiating even if we know that agents are always out looking for the better deal if possible until the very end.
