ACC Tournament

It’s dumb/arrogant of Duke, and it’s downright malpractice by the league for allowing it.

Heads need to roll in the league office.
Arrogant? Look, it sucks for everyone. But you're making this into some kind of conspiracy.

There’s no conspiracy. It happened. The facts are the facts.

Yes, it’s arrogant and selfish for a coach to insist on staying at their preferred hotel while knowing that a Covid outbreak was occurring there. It demonstrates a belief of “my players and staff won’t get caught up in it, even though it’s all around them.”

We know that K and his staff aren’t dumb. They are brilliant people. They knew the risk they were taking and took it anyway because it’s where they wanted to stay.

At this point I’d be cool with them cancelling the rest of the acc tournament and hope no more positive tests happen before the big dance. I think the 3 teams left are already in anyway.
Selfishly I want basketball to watch, but I’m stunned this hasn’t happened yet and it would absolutely be the smart thing to do.

The decision by Duke was irresponsible and arrogant. They should face backlash and shame and everything that comes with doing something so dumb. However, I have no idea how that would impact UVA.

In all seriousness. Is the UVA positive linked to Duke, or are we just making assumptions? You are just looking for one person/program to blame and why not Duke? Are Duke players the only ones who can make a mistake and expose themselves to covid?

Haha, no doubt. They could have an indefinite suspension from the NCAAT.
Duke's standard for indefinite is two games/seasons. Counting last year, Duke will have served their indefinite suspension at the conclusion of this coming tournament

Something else. It takes five days after contact to get a positive test. Wouldn't that mean the hotel is not where the player got it?

There’s no hard and fast 5 day rule. Not sure where you heard that. It’s not like when the clock strikes 12:01am on the 5th day, now you’ve got it.

But even if there was, the hotel is where these guys are living. All year. And the outbreak began like 6 or 7 days ago.

Look, no one is saying Duke players intentionally went and sabotaged the ACCT. college kids are college kids.

What people are accurately saying is that was some moronic, arrogant, and negligent decision making on the part of the adults associated with the team and the league office to allow Duke to travel back and forth from the hotel to the tournament.

Why add even 1% extra risk to a bubble like environment? There’s nothing to be gained and everything to lose.

When I have been tested due to contact they told me that I needed to wait 5 days to be tested or it would likely result in a false positive. This isn't new. We agree that it was irresponsible to stay at a hotel outside of Greensboro, especially if it was indeed known that there were covid cases linked to the hotel. Which I will just assume is true, even though it could easily be a rumor for all I know. The point is, people want there to be a villain here when there is no way to know where the player contracted the virus. It's just fun to have someone to point the finger at.

Only need to win 2 games this year to win ACC tournament. I guess that's better than last year. Looking forward to the matchup though. Hopefully neither team tests positive before the game. Not sure what happens if they both test positive.

They were staying in the bubble, their bubble. Football team ****ed them it looks like. Either way this virus is lame as **** and does nothing to anyone in shape. My fat ass wife got it and I had no symptoms, I figure college basketball players are at least half as in shape as I am so they should be fine. Let them play.

There’s plenty of coverage of the outbreak at Duke. Hell, Duke’s admin has threatened to lock down campus and has publicly admonished the frats. Duke football is on Covid pause. This isn’t a big secret.

No one is making this about being a villain. It’s just discussing facts. Even if the UVA case is totally unrelated, it still doesn’t make the decision to bus back and forth a good one. Just piss poor all around.

It was a weird game. And some absolutely terrible officiating on both sides.

Just hope we can play a game tomorrow.

The calls were weird. As a UNC fan I am pissed about the goaltend not called, the dude walking like 8 times in the backcourt, the guy stepping OOB, etc.. But as a FSU fan I would be upset that at times I thought UNC got away with a ton of contact inside and a number of pretty obvious fouls. It all evened out IMO. Thought it was more, outside of Ayers, just inexperienced guys who were incompetent. Didn't have anything to do with the outcome.

UNC makes FTs they could have won but the biggest difference was just your defense late. FSU simply took everything away from the Heels the last couple of minutes. Also thought that incredibly difficult shot at the end of the half was huge. That was a big time answer, as was another three by some guy that answered Love when he made a three to tie it. FSU is tough. Just a tough team all around on both sides.

That’s all really well said. I concur.

If Carolina gets an 8 seed, there is going to be a 1 seed who is pissed. That's not a team that most clubs will be able to contend with on the glass. I'm thinking it is a 7 seed, and would find a matchup against someone like Bama in the second round to be a real intriguing matchup.

FSU needed this win bad to have any type of opportunity to make a deep run. Injuries, poor play, this is a monkey off the back kind of game. I'd love for us to back it up with a strong performance against GT, who we can play a more typical rotation against if we don't continue to turn the ball over in droves. Would be great to also shut Alvarado up

A UNC/Bama matchup would be one of the more fun ones I can think of. Would love to see it.

Would prefer to avoid a team like Bama who reigns threes, lol. UNC hasn't done well with SEC teams in the tournament lately. Tournament is all about matchups and some luck though so who knows.

FSU certainly looked like they had a top 25 defense last night. Thought Barnes did an excellent job in covering multiple UNC guys in the final few minutes. Great overall game for Balsa. I'm sure he's had better games, but that's the best I've seen him play, especially when you factor in that he was playing against one of the best frontlines in the country.

UNC is going to be a scary opponent for whoever has to face them. They may very well end up in the 8/9 game, but they're more than capable of knocking off someone like Baylor.

Maybe just award the championship to the school that goes undefeated in the ACCT... with the most wins. Seems fair.

Honestly, that’s probably one of the 2-3 best games of Balsa’s career. He’s had stretches of impressive play but not many full games like that.

Barnes’ ability to defend on the perimeter without fouling late in the game was huge.

And yeah, UNC would be a really rough 8/9 seed. Especially for a team like Michigan who relies on their big man a lot.

And I was honestly kinda mad at the bunnies he was blowing at the rim, especially in the second half. I think that's just something that is kinda 50/50 with him. Sometimes he finesses, sometimes he pulverizes. He has a good second jump and can get away with it sometimes but not against those types of bigs. But, his potential is so incredible, he is going to make money playing this game.

My biggest concern in the tournament is if Barnes is unavailable for a long stretch of a game because of foul trouble. He gets a few ticky tack fouls in spurts sometimes, which is just part of the college referee experience. He is the guy that when he comes in, the team suddenly restores order because he is just so disruptive at both ends of the court. I'd love to see him and Cunningham going at one another in a E8 or FF game

I’m full blown bi-polar when it comes to sometimes loving and sometimes passionately hating Alvarado

Congrats to GT on the ACC championship. Sucks that UVA didn't get a chance to play them in the semis but I actually really like this GT team. Think they could do some damage in the NCAAs
