Who would win, Kansas vs Purdue

I think Smith would pair well together with XJ with XJ taking the tougher defensive assignment. Smith would help more than Galloway on offense and while TG is a better defender, your defense isn’t great this year and could use an offensive boost from Smith. Regardless of who’d start, Smith would get plenty of minutes if he was on your roster IMO.
IU's biggest issue as I see it is outside shooting. XJ is a good shooter but just doesn't attempt many. In fact, IU only has two guys who have averaged two 3PA's per game (Mgbako and Galloway) and those two are combined to shoot 5-36 from three this year.

I think Smith would help in that regard.

I know better than to expect a cogent response but:

do you really think smith starts over X?? Really??

I didn't say edey didn't score, I said Woody made him, play defense which cannot and force the guards to beat you which they cannot. Additionally how edey is officiated makes a ton of difference as well, especially to the windpipes of his opponents.

And woody beat you without his top defender.

2-0
That's not why Purdue lost to you guys. They lost because your guard went nuclear and ours couldn't shoot.

I love how people talk about Edey and how they apparently officiate him favorably. Nobody gets fouled more than Edey and they don't call about 75% of it. Pay more attention to Edey when rebounding. He gets grabbed, hooked and held, etc more than anyone. After they called a hook and hold in the Marquette game, they did it again and they didn't call it. It happened several times in the Tennessee game too. Happens a lot.

Edey isn't doing anything more than any other player. It may look like it because he's big, but he's very good at not fouling.

Why? Smith wouldn't be playing much either.

I learned long ago not to discuss basketball with a purdue grad. Low BBIQ, low objectivity ane even lower EQ.

Like discussing fine dining with a White Castle worker on parole.
You saying Smith wouldn't play much and it's us that have low BB IQ.

Good question. Michigan hung with Purdue because they played a 2nd big that defended Edey to keep Dickinson out of foul trouble. Does Kansas have that guy?

On the flip side, if he avoids foul trouble, will Dickinson shoot 70% from three like he has to start the season?
He’s got a pure looking shot. He won’t finish at 70%, but he’s gonna continue hitting them at a high clip if teams keep letting him have that shot.

That’s basketball in general. It’s always annoyed me how a driving guard gets a call with the most minimal contact, often contact he initiated, but bigs get beat up play after play with very few calls. In the NCAA tourney those few calls turn to no calls, and it’s part of the reason why the tourney favors guard oriented teams in recent years.

Two examples of why you don't discuss BB with pu grads

1. Cannot see or understand anything deeper than following the ball and who took the shot (in this case JHS). One of things I learned young from Knight was to watch off ball, and I do that to this day as much or more than I follow the ball. People rag on the balcony seats in TAH and there are some bad ones, but if you want to watch plays develop and defensive schemes...try sitting in CC.

2. Zero objectivity...in this case "Edey is a victim"

What kind of spark? Instant offense?

I like him, but he moves like an old man.
If you have seen games in the last couple years you would know. Defensively more than offensively, although he can draw fouls.

Can turn a game on it's ear.

Smith, 12pts 5reb 6ast
59ts% 12.3 b+/-

XJ, 10.5p 2reb 2ast
55ts% 0.6 b+/-
Galloway, 8.7pts 2reb 3ast
50.9ts% -2.1 b+/-

Smith, higher ws/40 than either Hoosier as well. Also had better adv numbers last season, his freshman season.

DBPM, not even in the same league.

Nothing from my post suggests that I don't watch off the ball. Facts are facts. I pointed out a few.

As far as Edey getting fouled constantly, it was almost all Bilas talked about at Maui. Funny thing is that they showed replay after replay of him being right.

As far as Edey not fouling, apparently every official in the country agrees with me, so... not sure what to tell you there.

Kansas (39 point favorite) is up 1 against Eastern Illinois with 5 mins left. 🤔

They’ve hit some tough shots and are playing balls to the wall. It happens that way sometimes. KU was up 16 then they banked in a long three right before half as the shot clock was expiring, th en hit a couple really tough shots early in the 2nd half to make it close. Since then KU has been playing with puckered buttholes and E Illinois knows it. They aren’t even bothering to guard KU’s shooters right now.

Booker for their team is a real player. Unless he’s just having the game of his life.

Gotta love it when the cupcakes go bonkers from 3 and seem to hit every circus shot they toss towards the rim. Absolutely maddening.

They hit some threes for sure, but it was as much the midrange jumpers as anything. We kept them out of the paint, but they hit a lot of mid-range jumpers unassisted. We did give them some open threes to begin the 2nd half, but after that they got their confidence going and were hitting tougher looks.

I only got to watch the last 6-7 minutes.

Your posts suggest you follow the ball or at least don't understand what you are looking at. See your comments on JHS hitting shots as the reason you lost twice.

Who did they play?

What defensive scheme was used by the opponent? How did they play edey? Who was on Smith? What offensive scheme was used most by painter? Boxsets? 1-3-1 sets, no sets? Was Loyer in the game? Who did the screening and where? PNR used? How was helpside used?

Did opponent leave the 3PL loose? Did they pack it in? Packline? zone? Which one?

Let's start with the basics and then we can get into the details.

JHS shot 58.3% from 2 and 50% from 3. Scored 35 points but only 2 assists. You're next highest scorer had 13 points. To suggest that JHS isn't the reason you won is just idiotic. He did the majority of his damage from 2 and MOST of those were contested jumpers which typically is not a high percentage shot (which is why Painter designs his defense to give up that sort of shot).
