Good question. Michigan hung with Purdue because they played a 2nd big that defended Edey to keep Dickinson out of foul trouble. Does Kansas have that guy?
On the flip side, if he avoids foul trouble, will Dickinson shoot 70% from three like he has to start the season?

Purdue and Marquette are probably the two most polished teams right now. Which is no surprise. They both have a ton of continuity and brought back basically everybody from teams that were solid last year.
KU's a work in progress. They're still figuring things out and defining roles. They're too reliant on a couple players right now.

Depends 100% on how Edey is officiated. If he is allowed to use the elbows and forearms as weapons anyone is in trouble.

Edey averaged 30 and 18 against IU last year. You beat us because you had a lottery pick guard and we didn't have anyone to defend him. Not a lot of teams have that and I think Purdue is much improved in that regard (but that's TBD).
I didn't say edey didn't score, I said Woody made him, play defense which cannot and force the guards to beat you which they cannot. Additionally how edey is officiated makes a ton of difference as well, especially to the windpipes of his opponents.
And woody beat you without his top defender.

Dickinson can hit the three all day long unguarded. He has a smooth touch from outside.
Yeah, I read the game before he only had 2 pts. He was the difference in our game.

I remember all the outrage when folks picked Braden Smith over him before the year started lol. Pretty clear who the better player is.

X was hurt. Smith was marginal at best and that only because he had edey as a distraction.. Is he better now? we shall see.
I would take X even with his drama over smith as would 90% of knowledgeable basketball fans. He can play defense which smith cannot, and shoots reasonably well. Cupps is better than smith (or will be very shortly) and he is on the bench

Painter just needs to break through in March. I hope this year is the year.
TBH, Smith/Loyer gotta make shots/plays. A year of experience should help---although SMith still seems bothered by length/speed, physical play. Great addition with Jones. Colvin is only going to get better. IMO, two really good, and needed additions. Both can give valuable minutes, and rest for Loyer/Smith---and IMO, Jones/Colvin give PU some "athletic ability", physical presence so to speak on the perimeter.
Although everyone returns, I think with Colvin and Jones, this is a different team---and a better one. Need Renn to pick it up. And Mason.
All in all, legit FF team.

This is what I have been told...that the weak back court of last year got some support. If true, will alter the way we manage them.
You thinking the starting PG, who is averaging 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists while shooting 50% from three, for the soon to be #1 team in the country, wouldn't play much for the #79 team in the country speaks volumes about your coaching staff and/or your ability to understand basketball.

He knows Smith would play he just can’t bring himself to admit it. He wouldn’t get minutes over XJ and Galloway? Unbiased observers would admit Smith would get plenty of minutes on this meh IU team.
Not to mention a guy who Gonzaga tried to poach in the offseason lol. But yep he wouldn’t play behind XJ and Galloway but was good enough to play for the Zags lol.
I know better than to expect a cogent response but:
do you really think smith starts over X?? Really?? X is a top three on-ball defender in BIG and a top half ball handler. X is a decent shooter and can get to the rim and to the line.
Do you really think smith starts over Trey? This one is closer and smith is a better shooter but Trey is a better defender and Sr leader. Trey is stronger and a lot tougher.
Your boy would have gotten a lot of minutes tonight as he is better than Cupps (at the moment) and better than Leal (forever). Look, I would like to have him on our roster but absent injury (which we have a lot of) he is not starting regularly this season. With the 3-5 Woody has, we are not going to the three guard lineup that IU is famous for.
I think Smith would pair well together with XJ with XJ taking the tougher defensive assignment. Smith would help more than Galloway on offense and while TG is a better defender, your defense isn’t great this year and could use an offensive boost from Smith. Regardless of who’d start, Smith would get plenty of minutes if he was on your roster IMO.
I don't think SMith starts over XJ---But certainly could see him getting minuts over TG.
