What's the single worst stereotype associated with your team/fanbase?

Some thing UNC doesn't care about academics even though they were cleared.
Duke is above the law and gets special treatment.
UK gets a bad rap for paying players.
KU well,
What's a stereotype about IU or any other team they don't deserve?

wait...are you suggesting that the teams you list DON'T deserve these reputations??

I know the “UK pays players” thing was big in Cal’s early days here. I guess just lack of anything credible not surfacing has been a big factor with that hypothesis running out of gas.

The lack of winning anything meaningful probably explains it. Cal and UK definitely pay player. They just pay the wrong ones apparently.

I hear a lot about people being UConn fans every 5 years.

Any merit to this UConn fans? Not sure who to tag.

" I hear a lot " ? From where lol. Just because most of us dont post in this wasteland , doesnt mean we arent around.

For a long time I had close contact with UK (1977-1985) because of my good friend Joe B. Hall. I helped when he was recruiting many good players. That was long ago before NIL because NIL (a U.S. Supreme Court ruling) allows college players to make money on their name, image and likeness.

I drove Joe B. to see Kenny Walker. I was with him during the complete recruitment. Kenny Walker went to Kentucky because it was UK, if I recall correctly he only had one more offer and that was from Georgia. Then a few years later Bob Knight wrote in his 'phantom' book (phantom because he did not write it) that UK paid Kenny Walker. I know quite well that that statement is a damned lie.

Kentucky does not need to pay players. Teams like Duke and Tennessee and Kansas and teams like those need to pay to compete with UK (Hell Duke and Kansas play home games in old relics). You go to UK and Rupp Arena is filled for the games. You go to UK and play away games in Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi St., LSU et.al. and that will probably be the only sell out of the year for those teams. They show up because it is Kentucky.

If you go to UK every game will be on TV (Mom and and Dad get to watch their son no matter when they live). It has been that way since the 1970's. I know because I have video of all of those games. No other team has had that.

So I don't need a UVA guy to tell me that UK is good because they pay their players. UK is good because of their following and the infrastructure of the program and its coverage.

As an aside, one year I was going to the AAU tourney with Joe B. and the biggest recruit of that year was Patrick Ewing. Joe B. told me that Ewing would not play division one basketball. I ask why and he said he got his transcript and he did not qualify. Shortly after that it was announced that Ewing was going to Georgetown. He graduated in 4 years. (Georgetown is a great school and they took Ewing, i.e. they cheated academically.)

Explain that to an old dumb UK guy you smart UVA man. And also explain why Sampson went to UVA? Money?

Or that no one gives a shit about paying players anymore and haven’t in quite awhile

“Tennessee is made up of only beautiful people that are entirely Mensa members””

This is not true. We are only 99.7 % Mensa members.

Right, because great athletes from disenfranchised backgrounds love to turn down money in so they can play for that awesome family atmosphere at UK.

You’re as naive as Afamu.

Bullshit. Plus I don't understand what your first sentence means as it was so butchered.

I am not naive about Kentucky basketball. I am fully cognizant of most facts concerning the program based on 60 years of dedicated following.

I will guarantee you that you are not as engaged in any program as I have been with Kentucky basketball. Sorry. You have no idea.

The definition of cognizant is: knowledgeable of something especially through personal experience.

Not so much the fanbase, but Syracuse is labeled as a cheating program by some because the sanctions they were saddled with twice. Obviously other fanbases don’t dig into what the sanctions were actually for.

So that’s annoying.

UK has payed players, walker might have you just weren't privy, boosters do all kinds of things behind the schene. ALL schools have paid players, especially the good ones who matter.

The NCAA chooses who they go after. The NCAA are the cheaters.

I don't and never did consider Syracuse to be a cheating program.

What gets me are the schools that cheat and never get in trouble.

Players have always received perks for a fact, but the fact also still remains that if UK has to cheat to be competitive then the schools without any following have to cheat more. But on the Kenny Walker recruitment I know exactly what was offered to him to attend UK.

But back to the Kenny Walker allegations made by Bob Knight were totally unfounded and I will guarantee that that year Bob Knight was tired of getting his ass kicked by Joe Hall and was wanting to get Kentucky on probation. If you can't beat them on the floor call them cheaters. Bob was good at passing judgements.

Well at least we've established that a lot, most and perhaps all were paid, why would it make sense that other teams had to cheat more to achieve less?

Schools without a following obviously have to cheat more!

Examples of schools without a following: Duke and KU 😂

Lay off the AM booze, Bert.
