What has happen to Kansas?...

Darian DeVries happened

Refs did evetything to give kansas the game per usual

Lol. Like the awful call at halfcourt and rewarding a guard for leaning into the defender and tossing up slop with under two seconds left?

I think you’re just used to being able to foul at will in Morgantown.

Lost at home to a short handed WVU team? Wvu had 2 starters out
I don't think the starters being out mattered much. The guys who filled in played as well or better. I don't know if the other guys are hitting those same shots WVU hit at the end.

As for Kansas. They are not good. They show flashes here and there, but overall they are not good. Self is stubborn and keeps trying to play KJ when he needs to play Bidunga and bring KJ off the bench.

And I really just don't think the modern format CBB works well with who Self is as a coach. Self is a guy who is great when he can mold a team over the course of a few years, when he has a roster of guys who have played together multiple years, filling in the gaps with talented freshmen. He is not the type of coach who can take a bunch of transfers and get them to play together as a team in one year. Some coaches are good at that, but it is not Self's strong point. If they start signing guys to 2+ year contracts when revenue sharing kicks in, then I think you'll see Self work his magic again before he retires.

Youre serious? 🤣 That was a clear foul. Not even close.

It was 21-6 free throw advantage for Kansas.... 21-2 until you fouled us twice in the last minute.

There were 4 fouls called on Kansas in the first 35 mins of the game.

Um no, absolutely not.

KU was driving to the basket and got more calls. Your guys got shots in the paint, but you did a lot of fade away shots and jumpers, and the layups you did get were mostly uncontested from bad defense. Overall the game was lightly called and they let them play, which benefits WVU's style of play.

But you got all the calls at the end. Mayo made a nice save to prevent the over and back, but they called it anyway. That was an anticipation call. Then your guy leans into the defender to get the call with 2 seconds left. But fine it was a foul. But your guys gave KJ a bear hug to end the game before the shot went up, then hit his arm on the shot. Should have been two shots for KU at the end, but the ref swallowed his whistle on that one.

Crazy to me that you're complaining about the officiating, in a game you won. Just take the W.

21-2 FT advantage until you fouled twice in the last minute.... in a game where we equaled KU in paint points.

Yes it was a foul. But KJ was also fouled at the end. He was being grabbed when he caught the pass, he was being grabbed moving for the shot and his hand was hit on the shot. No call at all. They swallowed their whistle on the last call. Then of course there's the over and back BS call. But hey, bad calls happen.

A FT disparity is not proof that your team got the shaft in calls. If that was the case, KU must be getting the shaft a lot this year, as opponents have outshot us at the FT line big time. No, your guys were simply not driving to the hoop. KU made it a mission to drive to the lane in the 2nd half and it paid off. Self has been trying to get them to do that all year and they finally caught on. You could have done the same, but you kept on shooting jumpers.

KU got to the line a total of 17 times at Mizzou and at Creighton, while they got to the line 40+ times. It's all in style of play. KU in those games was shooting jumpers and hestitant to get to the hoop, while Mizzou and Creighton were driving. That's what happens. You won anyway, thanks to some clutch shots at the end. Just take the W.

You dont think 2 of our 3 best players being out mattered? On a team that already has a very thin bench and a brand new roster? Ok....

He was not fouled at the end. Clearly. They called a foul every time we got near you in the 2nd half.

The things you guys are saying are embarrassing

Paint poins doesn't mean crap. It's how you're getting those points.

Your points were mostly off of post moves, fast breaks off of dumb KU turnovers, and mid range jumpers. Most of your layups were uncontested, as KU's defense was predictably bad.

Your guys played outstanding defense. You were on KU's defenders and challenging everything at the rim. When you do that you're going to frustrate a team, which clearly happened. But you're going to give up some FTs as well, which also happened.

That’s his MO. Just looks at number of FTs and declares it one-sided. But when the numbers are one-sided in favor of WV, there’s always a good explanation for it. 🤣

Imagine a WV fan talking about home cooking.

Imagine blaming refs when you shot 10x's as many free throws and got called for 4 fouls in the first 35 mins of the game.

Almost as dumb as saying Tucker DeVries and Amani Hansberry being out wasnt a factor in the game.

Missing starters over a stretch of 10 games or so absolutely matters. In a one game scenario? Not always. It depends on how the guys who stepped up play. I've wateched WVU play a few times this year. They played with more energy than they usually do, and the guys who filled in their shoes played outstanding.

Some of KU's best games over the years have been with some of our best players out. It works out that way sometimes. Your team hit 5 of its last 7 shots. All of them tough and guarded. Hitting floaters over 7 footers, hitting a wild jumper with a guy in his face after falling down, etc. Those were all tough shots. Would those starters have hit those same shots? Who knows, maybe if you have those starters in you end up winning by 10. Or maybe they go 3-15 from the floor and you lose. It's hard to imagine your guys playing much better than they did, especially down the stretch.

Jalon Daniels was KU's best player in 2022. You witnessed him at his peak in Morgantown that year. He went down against TCU and Bean came in and played lights out and nearly beat TCU. Daniels was the better player that year, but Bean was the better player that day. KU went on to lose 5 of their next 6, but that day Bean was better. If Daniels and Bean played the same schedule, Daniels would probably be the better player than Bean 8 times out of 12, but Bean would have his days too. It works that way in all sports. The next guy up might not be the better option most days, but he might play better some days. I've watched WVU play enough times this year to know that they played better than usual today. Better than they have many other games where they had their starters in.

you were the one who brought up officiating. Acting as if you had to overcome tough officiating. You didn't. Your team just didn't create contact, until the last play of the game. You're going to get fewer calls when that happens. And when you play physical defense like you did, you're going to get called for more fouls too. Regardless of how the officiating went, it DID benefit you down the stretch with the over and back call and the no-call at the end of the game.

The truth is, you beat a bad KU team on a day where they played even worse than normal. The officiating had nothing to do with any of it. And yes you were missing a couple guys, but the guys who stepped up played even better than the guys who they replaced. Sometimes guys step up when it's their time to shine and they did that today. Good for them. You should be proud.

This is just dumb. We basically played 6 guys and didnt have our best big and a preseaaon All American candidate. 2 of our top 3 scorers

If they play we wouldve been up 30 instead of 18. Kansas just isnt very good and Dickinson is a huge defensive liability.

Those early Huggins years, they could have called 60 fouls a game on them. When you went into Morgantown, you knew your ball handler was going to get foulded 3 times just getting the ball up the court. Thier FT disparities home and away were the largest in college basketball for like 5 years straight. I liked that style of play though and Huggy was one of my favorite coaches as a result. His teams went downhill when he went away from the pressure style the last few years. But yeah, they got home cooking on a whole other level those years. But they got torched by refs on the road for the same reasons.

fiory got away with one of the most blatent moving screens I have ever seen when was making its run.

Also Hunter dickinson is the most overrated player in the country

And 3) your team didn't create contact all game until your last offensive play.

KU sometimes gets homecooking. I'll not deny that. Today was not one of those days. Not all foul disparities are bad officiating. Your guys were not creating contact. In the 1st half because KU wasn't playing defense, and in the 2nd half because you were settling for jumpers. Most of your points in the paint in the 2nd half were put-backs, not drives to the hoop.

As always? Can probably count all my posts on here in the last 4 or 5 years on 2 hands

WVU hasnt been good enough for me to post. Lol
90% of your posts on this board have been during KU games.

And I like you, I really do, but I've yet to see a KU thread where you didn't complain about the officiating. We all do it sometimes, but you do it in literally every thread you show up in.

I'm sure i am the only person to complain about the 2nd half whistle at Allen Field House.

Ive seen some seriously funny shit happen in that building over the years.

I edited, read above.
I honestly don't follow the behind the scenes details in MBB like I do football. Didn't know he was coming in at January. He should help with something KU is lacking. A guy who can consistently drive to the hoop.

I don't think he's saying the best recruit ever. I think he's saying he thinks he's the most talented guy he's recruited out of high school. Of course that doesn't mean he's going to be great. You never know how a guy will do at this level, regardless of talent. Sometimes they don't make the adjustment between the ears.

And they’ve all been about officiating in Allen Fieldhouse. 😂

Well...quit cheating.

Is that why they called the over and back that was clearly not an over and back? Is that why they let you guys foul KJ at the end and held their whistle?

FT disparities do not mean you got hosed. In fact, many of Self's best KU teams had a negative FT disparity over the course of the season. Those were his best defensive teams. When you play solid defense, like your team did today, you're going to get called for more FTs than the other team. That's how it works. KU on the other hand played no defense in the 1st half. Not sure how they're going to get calls when they're letting your guys float by. KU played better defense in the 2nd half, but your team started shooting jumpers. All of your points in the paint int he 2nd half were put-backs.

You did not get hosed today, despite the FT disparity. KU created more contact. And in the 2nd half in particular.
