Wendell Carter being held back at Duke?

no doubt Carter was being salty and took a shot at K (not deserved)
almost every player in college gets held back to some degree
the game is slower paced then the NBA and much more of a half court game
and let's be honest, a lot of the players think they are much better than they really are

Just listened to the Dunc'd On podcast discussing Bagley. They mentioned they have little data on how he is in the PnR - only ~24 possessions where Bagley was a screener and ~ 24 where he defended (due to the zone). So it cramps the analysis somewhat (although maybe kept Bagley from getting exposed more on D). But that's pretty common for college ball, although anecdotally I've heard a lot of complaints about teams that primarily play zone D. Around 2012-14, I read something to the effect that Calipari PGs rarely used PnR, making evaluation difficult.

Solid M2M would've gotten them a lot further. Talent is what got them to the EE, IMO.

Shidddd. Our M2M defense had our defense ranked in the 80's; zone brought it to the top 10. We were a Grayson Allen jumper spinning and going in from the Final Four anyway, with all that zone.

I didn't see the salt or the shot, just someone trying to increase his stock.

We weren't that good in the zone, but it was awesome compared to the man to man.
Then Self made an adjustment at halftime, and we started playing some sort of horrendous form of zone I've never seen. Grayson trying to guard the middle, and running one side to the other. Say what you want about Bagley Q, but K couldn't hide him nowhere on defense.

Self had a distinct advantage. He knew had his team got past Clemson, they were either playing Syracuse or Duke, two zone teams. He didn't have to make too many adjustments. With Carter in foul trouble all game, they doubled/tripled teamed Bagley and Grayson/Trent couldn't hit a damn 3-pointer. Duval kept us in the game, until the end.

Yeah, this. Our m2m sucked.

Is that how you interpreted Carter's comments? What he's stating is just a fact given the nature of college basketball vs the pros.

Also, Swaggy Cal held back Devin Booker by featuring the Harrison twins. RollLaugh

Speaking of held back, weren’t the Harrison twins in college for two years?

That was because they're not very good at basketball (at least relative to their high school rank). They started for two years and had more opportunities than their play warranted (Kentucky fans are still salty they got so much run over Ulis and Booker). If you want to get into a dumb discussion about player development or nature v. nurture re: talent, have at it, but the Harrisons are a pretty poor example of "held back."

Just busting balls friend. Just as others take generic shots at any team with out of context comments.
