To be fair, Mcullar, Santos-Silva, Shannon were already on the roster- He did however bring in Williams & Obanor, so shows he can work the portal very well- a Defensive beast obviously teaching his players, how can he recruit though...

There was a whole lot of laughing when Tech fans were telling everyone that Adams meant a lot to this team and was the defensive guru behind Beard. I distintly remember a lot of UT and Kansas fans mocking Tech fans about it. Crow eating time for all involved.
On this board? I don’t remember any KU fans saying that. In fact, I was fully behind the idea that Adams was responsible for a lot of what Beard accomplished.
If by not much dropoff you actually mean the best team we have had since the runner up team I'll agree. Actually this team might be better than that one.
I think he can work the portal and recruit some kids. Maybe not like 5 stars we are not dropping bags like Kansas. But he can get some 4 stars.
Portal is going to change this year right Take away covid year players and we're left with unhappy pregrad/GT transfers.
Some coaches can handle unhappy transfers better than others. If they're going to rely on them, they need to be able to handle the temperaments.

I admittedly thought tech was done after beard. And was wrong. Loved beard for years - thought he was a top5 coach in America and really still do.

beard had tech’s best season ever in 2019, winning the big 12 and national runner up, but tech’s second best season ever is 2021-22. I’d already call it better than 2018 (with them going to elite 8) being in top 10 right now as March approaches. It’s a better team than 2018’s.
beard’s two campaigns after 2019 weren’t that good so for Adam’s to do this now is incredible.

Adams is a really good coach at Xs and Os which is why Beard hired him when he got his first D1 job in Little Rock. The players all seem to love him. They lobbied for him and the guys that stayed did so because he got the job.
Beard is a good coach but he's flawed in some ways. The constant ribbing and public teasing directed by Beard at his assistants including Adams. Part of the reason he went through quite a few assistants. Also the fake nobody respects this Coach or that team more than me. In 2019 after that loss something snapped in him.
This season we have better forward play with Williams, Obanor, MSS, and Batchco. We are missing a point guard and some three point shooting. There was a chance Kyler Edwards would return to Tech. But Chris Beard spoke to him and his father quite a bit from a hotel bar in Austin. Then Edwards ended up at Houston with Kelvin Sampson somebody Beard knows well.
