Malik was a big loss for you. I think it’s a different game if he’s healthy. Good luck the rest of the way.
Yea for sure, but hard to see bc we only had him two games all season. And our backup soph big man has had, wait for it, covid, groin strain, heart issue, and mono this season and basically hasn’t seen the court since ??? First few games. So I was wrong in an earlier thread, they finally released what was goin on, I guess he finally got over the mono but his conditioning is shot. And I doubt he would have been a big contributor but he’d have at least been a big body to throw out there, keep withers from having to go 35 mins a night.
So all season long we’ve been playing withers at the 5, and sliding everyone else down a spot. Even the backup 5 is a backup 4. We have a 5 on the roster that was pegged to RS before the NCAA made it a free year and idk he just sits the bench. He’s played sparingly to say the least.
So yea, I feel like we would be a diff team with a healthy Malik, but at the same time injuries happen and we’ve been doing it without him all season, so at some point it can’t be an excuse anymore. I know it’s bad to say, but I almost feel like him coming back and then getting reinjured hurt us mentally. We were waiting for our captain/leader to come back, and he only made it a couple games once he did, just put the season ceiling right back in place. And Esp withers whose been battling down low admirably all season, had to ya loved getting some time at the four. Then we become an excellent rebounding team as well bc we can slide Sam back to the 3. I hope Sam will come back, but we’ve seen kids leave before with no chance of being drafted so who knows. Honestly DJ might be playing his way back to school.
Withers is gonna be a load at the 4 next year, assuming we have a capable 5 on the roster. We have Roosevelt wheeler coming in, but he’s coming off an injury so not sure what to expect.
