I think Askew will be good, but he’s got to learn to stop picking up his dribble before he has a pass. That’s what scouts say TyTy is really good at, keeping his dribble alive. Askew would do the same thing every time, and would drive me nuts. It would often lead to a double team and a turnover.
Askew has a chance to be good, if he improves his passing, dribbling, shooting, defense and basketball IQ.
So the inability to pass could be helped by his teammates.
Basketball is the ultimate team game.
The players that don’t need anyone are extremely rare.
This is why I go back to the motion offense and playing with two senior guards.
Funny thing is I see what Askew was trying to do a lot of times
I've updated my top 150 ever so slightly. I took Marcus Carr out, as it appears he's staying in the draft. Also took Manny Bates out, as he was seen in the summer workouts with NC State - and has yet to enter the portal. Tyrn Flowers has taken his name out of the portal and will remain at LIU.
Had a couple of transfers change their plans in the last week. Chandler Jacobs (#53 transfer) is heading to Colorado State, after previously giving a verbal to Texas Tech. AJ Brahmah (#55 transfer) has flipped on his commitment to Arizona State, and is now heading to Nevada. Jordan Brown is going to Louisiana. That one is a little bit of a head-scratcher. Brown could start for a good chunk of P6 schools - why Louisiana?
I'll update my transfer class rankings soon, perhaps I'll wait till one more of these top transfers makes a commitment. Nevada is certainly going to move up a bit. Conversely, Arizona State's class will drop quite a few places.

Not to nitpick, since you have them ranked closely, but do you really believe that Wheeler is a better player than Yesufu?

Nobody was knocking Askew's effort. He tried last year, which was nice. Unfortunately he wasn't good at any aspect of the game of basketball save free throw shooting.
Always appreciate your work. Think Oscar is underrated and Fredrick is quite a bit underrated. Not a fan of Wheeler but we'll see.
He led the SEC in assists on a shit team. I think the hope is the percentages and turnover rate will look a LOT better not being surrounded by shit. Yesufu was a decent player for a mid major. Pretty easy to understand why he might be higher ranked, though I'm not a fan of Wheeler either tbh.
If Wheeler can minimize his turnovers, which you would presume he could do with better players around him, then he'd have a have a higher ceiling. He was 2nd Team All-SEC, too. That being said, I don't have any issues if someone has Yesufu higher. He was more efficient, and is obviously a much better shooter.

Just depends what role he has with Kentucky. If he's simply utilized as a catch and shoot type player, which is my best guess, then I wouldn't overvalue his contributions. He's a heck of a shooter, but to be a top 30/50 type transfer, he can't be one-dimensional. You'd want to either see his usage go up, or perhaps his ball-handling responsibilities to increase. A low-volume shooter, even with great percentages, is not going to be one of the most impactful players. He has a nice assist to turnover ratio, so that's encouraging. Just worry he's going to be the fourth guard behind Wheeler, Washington, and Grady - and that will limit his opportunities a bit. If he gets more touches, he could have a promising year.
Doesn't really matter how far apart they are. Even if he were one spot higher, it still indicates that he's a better player, which surprised me. KU fans had very different reactions to the recruitment of each guy, especially the nerds who analyze advanced stats. Most KU fans freaked when they thought they were about to get a commitment from Wheeler, but everybody was happy to land Yesufu.

Bill Self and Cal both really wanted him. Gonna guess they both see something fans don't. I would bet Wheeler has a bigger impact next year by a fairly wide margin too.
How do you know that Self really wanted him? It's possible, but I'm not sure about that. Remy Martin committed immediately after, and I think anyone would prefer Martin over Wheeler. He may have been really interested at one point but I think he backed off when Martin entered the portal.
As far as their impact, Wheeler will likely have the ball in his hands more than Yesufu, but I highly doubt that he'll be more efficient. When Yesufu stepped in as the starting PG last year, he averaged 23 ppg over 9 games and shot 47% from three in the process. He's a nice passer, but I'd be worried about his shooting and turnover rate.
The word was he was set to go there before Cal started going after him. I'm sure getting Martin made him less important (likewise with Cal getting TyTy) but Self clearly wanted him. I expect the efficiency numbers to look quite a bit better surrounded by better talent but I agree it's definitely a cause for concern.
Not to sound arrogant but I expected this kind of haul. Altman is notoriously active in the transfer market and always gets some good players, often late in the process. I feel pretty solid about the roster now. Should contend for the PAC title and could make a deep run

@dukedevilz Did you intentionally exclude Kevin Samuel (TCU C) from the top 150? He was a relatively recent entry to the portal.
Honest question. Did you watch him one time last year? Because if you did, you wouldn't have an erection over the fact that he's on your team.
Intentionally? No. I like Samuel. I have organized my own database, which includes all the transfers from just about every school in the top 10 conferences. I originally had a list of uncommitted players, too. Recently, any add-ons in the past two weeks have only been players that have committed to a new school. So, Samuels was never added to my list. He definitely deserves a spot on there. I'll revise again next week. Thanks for pointing that out.
All that talent and still not projected to win the conference must be a bit frustrating
In general they’ve been put in the 5-10 range, which seems fair. A lot of that is definitely based on Ivey making a jump.

Don't expect anything from him. I know he is a good basketball player that brings a lot to the court.
Texas is grooming him to he the lead guard. As of right now they have two All Big 12 quality guards..
Doesn't take anything away from Askew that he can't start over Ramey and Jones.
Trust me, I don't expect anything from him. That said, I am rooting for him and hope he finds a good home in your program.
