Just a rumor, but apparently he had an injury that wasn’t properly dealt with last off-season. That lead to some substance abuse problems that he has since dealt with. From the way it was told to me, he sounds like a mature kid who understands the bigger issues at play.
Just wondering. He always wanted to play for UK, but parents and others steered him to WVU...
His guardian family certainly had a factor in him ending up on West Virginia. He is not as polished as Bam Adebayo but they have similarities in their game.
He's there for defense, rebounding and lobs. Cal will want him to get most of his scoring from rebounds. No different than how he played Davis, KAT and others.
Certainly should fit his style well. It’s been shown to work at the highest level so if he buys in, could get him back on scouts radar for the next level.
I'd like to comment about transfers but we didn't get any. I guess when you return 94% of your scoring and pick up 2 Top 50 recruits, you don't need transfers.
Wake Forest is quietly building a nice class. All three guys are potential starters.

Surprised you don't have Devin Askew PG from UK on your list.
Didn't have a good year statistically, but he started 20+ games at Kentucky as a true fish and was a top 50 recruit.
Think he's better than a bunch of players on your list.
Where do people get this stuff
Oscar isn't anywhere close to the defender that Bam is.
Oscar cannot switch onto a guard and play the perimeter. Never will be able to. Doesn't have th athleticism.
He does extend more than you average big but no where near an elite level.
The problem with Oscar is not having enough time on the court for Collins.
Will be difficult for Kentucky to play both. Will have the same issues WVU did with Oscar and Culver.
WVU was actually a better offensive team after Oscar left. Culver isn't theh defender that Oscar is though...
Askew has a lot of haters on here.
But for the most part he was playing out of position...
Never will be a PG who can create in isolation.
Will have to be a player who creates due to ball movement and moving without the ball.
Will definitely look a lot better playing with two seniors.
Askew has a tremendous basketball IQ and fits perfectly in a motion offense.
Issue with Kentucky last year was the ball getting stuck in people's hands.
People move better without the basketball
Ball moves faster than people's feet.
Because of his ability to create and score on all three levels he could thrive if Texas has the ability to move the ball and if they can move without the ball.
But Chris Beard and the staff see Jase Febres totally different than Shaka did.
They think Febres is a not just a shooter but someone who can create..
So Askew could get his minutes cut because they go with Jones, Ramey and Febres in the backcourt.

He had a horrid season. Guess I just have a hard time seeing anything spectacular in Askew's game. Seems like a very average player who doesn't particularly excel in any one facet of the game. I'm sure he'll get better, and maybe he just needs a different role, coach, and mindset.
And yes, he started 20 games. However, that was on a 9-16 team where he had a PER of 8.8 (15 is considered to be the median for all players). As of right now, my expectations for him are pretty modest. I don't think he'll be in the starting unit for Texas.

I'm hoping Jericho Sims comes back. He's going through the draft process, but no agent. I think it's 50/50.
It looks like UK is done. New players arriving this weekend and this.
I get this can seem homeboardish, but he's right in the thick of the changing landscape and talks about transfer portal staff/player welfare staff with NLI etc. A lot of stuff not brought up as much as it will be.
Over 130 schools have had 6 or more transfers.

I get what you're weaving. Askew has his best days ahead of him. He was historical bad for UK last year, but with everything they went through, it's a bit understandable.
I'm rooting for him.
No doubt. Century bad. Out of all those teams Askew shot the 2nd worst ever from 3. We've had a lot of players. He's 2nd worst ever. I hope you all maximize his other potential.
Bright side is, If he can hit the side of a barn, you can say "I told you so".

Take note, no one here is rooting against him going forward. He's a great kid. I can talk about his work ethic and civil service all day long. Super kid, you're getting a strong character from a great background. Will be a great ambassador for any program he's played for.

Don't get me wrong. I am hoping that somehow Max Abmas doesn't keep his name in the draft and ends up at Texas.
Even with that Askew will be the only returning guard after 2021-22.
There is something to his game
Texas had a horrible year Andrew Jones' freshman year.
Jones ended up a very good player
Calling the guy who does more research then probably everyone on this board combined clueless sure is something. Especially when nothing but you being a homer leads to thinking Askew is going to be good next year. He'll certainly be better, but he played 30 minutes a game last year. This isn't the case of someone not playing much. He played a ton and was absolute shit.

Wasn't because of just Askew.
Have to separate the two. Askew can play at an all conference level in a power conference. This isn't a homer opinion. This is based on watching him last year at Kentucky and watching some of him in high school
The problem last year was the lack of ball movement...Ball was getting stuck. When it wasn't you saw what Askew could do
He is a combo guard that needs to be in an offense around other guards with similar skillsets
Like Jones and Ramey. Very similar to both in a lot of ways
But Askew does have that second level scoring with his floater..
That even Ramey and Jones haven't mastered
