Tony Bennett retiring...

I'm not surprised he retired. The portal and NIL stuff he hates. The timing is odd. Seems evident he's saying screw UVA or the AD or saying screw you now you don't get a chance to search for a coach, you have to promote my assistant because Bennett wants him to have a shot

He's kind of a piece of shit and a little bitch when it all boils down to it. "I liked it better when my guys were busting their ass and making millions of dollars for the university and they got nothing of it". All these coaches leaving are no better than the southern farmers who gave up after the war. "I liked it better when we didn't have the pay them anything". Scum.

Are you sure that wasn't a Roy Williams or Coach K quote?

I don’t remember you being this stupid. All those years of IU losing have really taken a toll on you. Such a shame.

More than likely it's the curse of the NIL I don't blame coaches for not wanting to deal with this open wound on college sports. No college athlete should be paid thousands of dollars to play a sport. If pay is the only option pay them a minimum hourly wage like normal students.

Jesus Christ. Are other college kids prevented from making money? Is their income potential capped? They aren't normal college students.

Dafuq got into you? Here is his quote, which very clearly refutes what you are spewing:

"I think it's right for student-athletes to receive revenue. Please don't mistake me," he said Friday. "The game and college athletics is not in a healthy spot. It's not. And there needs to be change, and it's not going to go back. I think I was equipped to do the job here the old way. That's who I am.

"It's going to be closer to a professional model. There's got to be collective bargaining. There has to be a restriction on the salary pool. There has to be transfer regulation restrictions. There has to be some limits on the agent involvement to these young guys. ... And I worry a lot about the mental health of the student-athletes as all this stuff comes down."

Candidly, I think the unlimited transfers for no reason is a bigger issue for coaches than NIL. Even without guardrails, NIL will eventually level out.

The only revenue these guys should get is an hourly wage just like normal students.

Jesus has nothing to do with this. Pay them an hourly wage like normal students and, oh yeah, make them go to class. I work with Community College students who often work at Fast Food places and I will always maintain that no college athlete should make thousands to play anything/

Even when they sell out stadiums weekly and bring in millions and millions of dollars for the university? Should the government tell everyone how much they should make? Magically they allow it and gets are making hundreds of thousands and some millions. Seems unfair that they were missing out on this money. What would you think if someone capped the amount of money that you make?

A lot of guys don't go to the highest bidder even though some do. Tillery and Koehler stand out a bit. I doubt we were the highest bid for either, but I think we were largely competitive for each -- and their decisions came down to things that included NIL but were more based on fit/early playing time. VT reportedly has the highest offer out to Mingo. I had heard $500k a few weeks back, and there's a rumor they upped it again this week. And yet, I don't think he goes there. This is as ugly as it gets and is one of many reasons why I'm beginning to dislike so called college sports......NO college player should make so much money to play a sport. If they make that much, Tax the Hell out of them. And, yes, these are college kids not professionals.

Who's to say? They'll pay their taxes like everyone else. They can do things that most people can't, why should you/we get to say how much they should make? What gives you that right? Do you understand capitalism and the free market?

It's a moral thing-you wouldn't understand!....Screw the so called free market. Wrong is wrong. I don't care for professional sports because of the money they make.

As a lifelong Captalist I encourage anyone to get what they can in the free market. Personally I give a lot to good causes, but I don't begrudge those that don't.

That said, I will be the first one pointing and laughing at the kids who get their titties in a wringer when they fail to pay taxes.

If there was a salary structure and an even playing field for the schools, I don’t think coaches would be leaving. I’m not saying a salary structure is possible or even the way to go, but it’s not the fact that players are getting paid that these coaches don’t like; it’s how they get paid.

In all professional sports, players have barriers to leaving. That’s the trade off for getting paid and it’s a fair trade off. In the current college landscape, players don’t have those barriers; they’re free agents twice a year. So they get paid but with hardly any commitment to the school. They extort the school routinely.

It also hinders the ability to coach. “Hey, why are you transferring?” “Coach yelled at me and said I have no left hand.”

Oh… cool

I said from day 1 that the free transfer market + NIL was going to lead to exactly what we have today and basically ruin CBB. I'm just amazed that people are now acting surprised by it.

At the very least they need to put a salary cap on NIL and also figure out a way to incentivize players to stay at a school. Maybe allow schools to go above salary cap to retain players?
