Teams we got right and wrong pre season

I was looking for a game to watch and ended up with two wonderful ones that I had to turn on the top TV to keep up with them. Florida beat UNC at Charlotte and South Carolina beat Clemson at USC. Both went down to the wire and I could not turn them off.
Apparently the polls know something because the SEC could really be a good league this year.
Oh by the way the Clemson big guy Ian Schieffelin who go 20 rebounds and no fouls playing Kentucky, got 6 rebounds before he fouled out against USC. Home cooking does play a part in college sports. If you are allowed to rip and tear without being called for a foul you can do wonders.

I do not think Self is a coach who is made for the game as it is today. He needs to recruit his guys and coach them over a course of 3 or 4 years and mesh them into a unit, filling in the gaps with talented freshmen here and there.
He does not know how to take a group of transfers and make them into a team in one year. That is not the way he is as a coach. His teams are going to be mediocre with the current format. Some guys like the ISU coach in particular, can bring in a bunch of transfers and get them to play together quickly. Self is not that guy. He needs to mold a group over a course of a few years.
With revenue sharing being a thing, they need to start signing guys to 2+ year contracts. Which I think is what is going to happen. Once that happens, Self will have his guys playing his style of game again. If he can hold onto Bidunga and Mayo along with the freshmen class they have coming in next year, I think they'll be really good down the road. But not this year. Maybe Self will surprise me and put it all together late in the season, but this team has not shown the ability to play well together consistently. They occasionally show flashes of what they could be, but they will play dogshit basketball for an entire half.
