Since 2000, this will be the 8th time a B10 team has played for the National title. Big is 1-6 in those games:

2000: MSU National champs.
2002: IU -- Lost to Maryland
2005: Illinois-- Lost to UNC
2007: OSU ---; Lost to Florida
2009: MSU ---- Lost to UNC
2013: UM ---- Lost to UL
2015: Wisky --- Lost to Duke

Damn ACC has whooped out ass in the title game; 5 of the 6 losses have came to ACC teams.

In fairness thiough, Big 10 has lost those games to some really, really good teams, all the while having a very good team themselves. Especially so in 2005. Illinois was just crazy good. OSU in 2007(lost to defending champ Florida). And yet here were are again----------Playing yet another very, very good team. Yes I know-------everyone in the title game is really good. But the losses I outlined were against teams that some feel as being all-time greats.

So do we as a conference get over the hump? Or is it another year of-------------ohhhhh, so close?

I don't think Nova is gonna hit 18 3's and I do believe Michigan will shoot better behind the arc. I think it's gonna be a close game.

Would be reminiscent of our games against MSU this year.

Nova's beatable.

Question is, does Michigan have the horses?
D looking good, O... it's there, we've seen it.

And if UM wins, we'll never have to read X# of B1G teams have earned a F4 since 2000... blah blah.

Now..

The B1G (2000) is only second to the PAC (1997) of the Power 6 in the last time a natty was won. Which is nuts because there is great b-ball played in that conference. Better than the SEC for sure yet they have Kentucky and a couple fluke runs with Florida.

Genuine misfortune because every single one of these losses has been to the more favored n hottest team going into the tourney. Moreover, so often there are kids on these teams who played prep ball in the BIG footprint. In the case of Nova, many Pa kids, as well as Brunson (Illinois) n Spellman (Ohio). BIG fans need to accept that the Big East shares 7 states in the footprint now & Gtown is a quick drive to College Park, Md. Big East is simply going to be a permanent thorn in the BIG’s side. I also think it’s a matter of time before the Big East adds Loyola, making Illinois a perfect split of 4 programs between BIG n BE.

Unlike the ACC and SEC’s overlap in football, the Big East is built for basketball - not a single program in this conference is thinking FBS football.

I wouldn't call Florida's back-to-back titles a fluke. That team was peaking & talented in their first NC under Donovan. Donovan is a fine coach. Remember, he led his team to the title game 6 years before their first NC (2000 versus MSU). When Fl cut the nets down for their 2nd title that team sent some decent players to the next level: Horford (5x NBA All Star, including this year & on a great Celtic's team), Noah (2x NBA All Star, though he has suddenly faded really hard) & Brewer (still in the league). Hell, Marreese Speights just won a ring with GS last year.

Post 2007 - Donovan would continue to lead Fl to 4 more Elite Eights and a Final Four (2014) before going to the NBA. Fl has even made an EE post-Donovan - last year.

Honestly, Fl is quietly become one of the 3 most successful basketball programs the past 20 years - my opinion.

Drought goes on

It does, bear in mind if it goes past next year then the BIG will have tied the SEC's longest drought, 20 years (Ky 1958 - 1978). I doubt the BIG will ever match the Big 6/8/12's longest droughts: KU has won all 3 titles for this conference, actual membership. Their longest drought was from 1952-1988 - I can't count that high : ). Oklahoma A&M, now OkSt, was not in the Big 8 when it won its titles - it wouldn't matter anyways, their titles were in 1945-1946.

Pac 12' drought is at 21 years and counting. But unlike the BIG, they've only played in 2 title games during this ongoing drought (2001 & 2006). Utah was not in the Pac12 in 1998. The also lost every first round game in the 2018 tourney. But damn, they send great players into the NBA.

The big east is Nova and that's pretty much it. Rest are a bunch of coat tail riders rike the SEC football teams not named Bama.

I don’t know about that. Bottom line the current BE has a lot of rich basketball history n like I said above, they are not dealing with FBS bs. Nearly every BE member has a FF in their history books and Marquette n Gtown have won it all as well.

SEC has crowned many more NCs than the BIG in football, past 20 years, and not just Bama: Fl x 2, Au x 1, LSU x 2. It’s a filthy rich conference in terms of local talent. Unlike the BIG in hoops, the SEC’s football blue chips stay in the footprint n usually in the conference.

I think the BIG will end its drought soon. But don’t be surprised if it happens because one of its members has finally locked down worthy footprint talent for a change.

If a Big 10 team can meet an SEC team in the championship game, they may finally get over the hump.

ACC 97%
BE 95%
B12 93%
B10 92%
SEC 89%

Since 2002, champions by conference:

Big East (or once allifliated to conference): 7
ACC (or once affiliated to conference): 6
SEC: 3
Big 12: 1

Don’t see when the next big ten team will be a solid natty contender. Maybe MSU or UM in 2019.

Just have had the misfortune of running in to really, really good teams. 2002 IU vs Maryland...........2005, Illinois vs UNC; though that was a really good Illinois team. 2007 OSU vs defending champs(Florida).... 2009 MSU vs a monster UNC team.........2015, Wisky vs Duke. And this year-------A really good, historically offensively good, Nova team.

Is what it is.

UW and Illinois probably the two best teams to make it for B1G but still couldn’t get it done.

I think Michigan is the best shot in foreseeable future. But once Archie gets IU peaking, could do it.

Wisky is prob done for a while with Ryan gone.

OU 2016 and KU 2018 both ran into a freight train known as Jay Wright.

Depends on the recruiting in ‘19 and ‘20 for us. We’ll be solid but need to land a couple higher end guys.

OSU in 2007 with Cook, Conley and Oden were pretty damn good. With that being said, UW in 2015 and Illinois in 2005 were really, really good.

Yea that OSU team was really good. UW that year was basically like Purdue this year. Really solid regular season but ended up 2nd to OSU, butch goes down and flame out early in tourney. Fun regular season though.

You don't know how much it was appreciated by us IU fans, when you guys ended UK's undefeated season. I really thought Wisky was going to beat Duke for it all. Too bad the 2nd half whistles sure seemed to all go Duke's way.

Because the first half whistles clearly went UW way that we had to use a seldom used freshman named Grayson Allen.
