There’s no really dominant teams

This years #1 seeds would probably be a 4 seed most years. There’s a lot of parity which will make the tournament fun to watch though. My team picked the wrong year to be so bad because I wouldn’t be surprised if a higher seeded team wins it this year.

Btw, I believe that Purdue is the best team this season.

Big Ten conference is way overrated .

Disagree. Zags, Kentucky, Baylor are legit 1 seed teams any year. As is Zona.

I do agree it’s wide open tho.

while it’s not like the last two years with KU 2020 or Baylor/Zags 2021, there are 5 or so teams that are really good and 10 teams that are above the rest of the pack.

Zags and Baylor are good but not like they were last year.

There's not a single team this year that I would take over 2018-2019 UVA either. That team went 35-3 (16-2 ACC) in a league that had 3 #1 seeds. Only losses were to #1 overall seed Duke twice and FSU (who was a 4-seed in NCAAs) at the ACC tourney. People look at the close games in the tourney and think UVA wasn't that good or dominant. In reality, we played some of our worst basketball of the year in the tourney and still won it all.

I see a lot of great teams out there. Regarding the dance, I think match ups will be the key. Some teams match up better than others, so a teams bracket will be easier or harder based on the type team you're playing instead of how high ranked. A 4 seed can beat a one seed as there isn't that much difference.

Purdue has a great offense, but is weak defensively. I see that as a major flaw in their hopes for a deep run. I see the champion ending up being a more balanced team.

Parity doesn’t mean the teams aren’t good or “great.” In years like 2008, I think it was more the teams outside of the top 5 were kind of dogshit…

Baylor is not great. Not even the best team in their league. Maybe if they get Cryer fully healthy and back in rhythm.

Also, I think it's sketchy to compare different years of college basketball. What do you even compare it on, players that went on to be NBA studs so those teams were "better"? Your own personal biases? The "name" of the program? Not saying you can't compare teams (I think the '05 Illini could have taken several National Champions since then...), but it is entirely subjective.

Mediocre year?

We'll probably never see as much experience and games played again.

I think it's a pretty good year. Certainly don't think it's a down year. Personally I love that there's so many teams that could potentially win it. This has been a really fun season to watch. I'm just not sure I'd put this year's winner in the top half of the past decade's champions. Probably middle of the pack.

Disagree.

but ya with cryer much better

big 12 is a grind. Look what they did to teams in the ooc like nova. They didn’t have cryer for Bama either. But fully loaded they ran the table

But they’re not going to be fully loaded.

Let’s not forget that they were down 35 in AFH before Self cleared the bench with several minutes left. And KU didn’t play a perfect game by any means.

That doesn’t happen to dominant or great teams.

To be fair, with what UK did to Kansas, does that mean Kansas isn't a great team either?

A Kentucky player who normally scores around 10 dropped almost 30. They were practically perfect. KU didn't do anything out of the ordinary vs Baylor. A lot of it was just Baylor being unable to defend or take advantage of their open looks.

And I've never called this a great KU team. I think they're capable of beating just about anyone, but also capable of losing to practically anyone in the tourney field.

Eh, I will give you Brooks going for a career high, but not practically perfect- In UK's win over Kansas, they only made six threes, wile KU only made 5 vs Baylor- each team also shot around 50% field goal wise in their victory as well.

And Kansas is ranked 6th at the moment, Baylor 3rd- if they are not great, would it be unreasonable to call this season a "down year"?

I don't remember exact numbers, but I remember Kentucky's overall FG% being something ridiculous until the game was out of reach.

KU will fall a bit in the next rankings, but how many "great" teams do you think there are, anyway? Baylor and Gonzaga are the only teams from last year that I think were deserving of being called great. This year, I don't even know. But usually there aren't more than a handful of teams that I think deserve that label.

Also don’t know what UK’s fg percentage was first half vs you guys, same with not knowing what you guys shot first half vs Baylor .

And let’s be fair - “great” is a subjective word - just thought with over 350 teams, the top ten would be “great” teams.

we may have gotten embarrassed but Baylor would beat Kentucky by 5-10 at home.

Kentucky finished third in the SEC, but some want them to be a one seed. Laughable.
I know you guys are new to this basketball thing, but conference schedule matters. Auburn had one of the easiest and kentucky had one of the hardest. We are probably a two but our resume is as good as most playing for a one seed. Congrats on the SEC, see you in the title game.

Auburn UK round 2 would be awesome , but wouldn’t count out a Vols or Hogs run either.

I don’t expect Kentucky to lose on a neutral floor to either of those schools, but it can absolutely happen. Both are good teams. The SEC tournament will be a very pro Kentucky crowd no matter who we play.
