The Purge - Not the Movie - Alex Jones fromSocial Media

Senator Cruz.

SEN. TED CRUZ (R-TEX): Thank you Mr. Chairman. Mr. Zuckerberg, welcome. Thank you for being here.

Mr. Zuckerberg, does Facebook consider itself a neutral public forum?

ZUCKERBERG: Senator, we consider ourselves to be a platform for all ideas.

CRUZ: Let me ask the question again. Does Facebook consider itself to be a neutral public forum, and representatives of your company are giving conflicting answers on this? Are you a ...

ZUCKERBERG: Well ...

CRUZ: ... First Amendment speaker expressing your views, or are you a neutral public forum allowing everyone to speak?

ZUCKERBERG: Senator, here's how we think about this: I don't believe that — there are certain content that clearly we do not allow, right? Hate speech, terrorist content, nudity, anything that makes people feel unsafe in the community. From that perspective, that's why we generally try to refer to what we do as platform for all ideas ...

CRUZ: Let me try this, because the time is constrained. It's just a simple question. The predicate for Section 230 immunity under the CDA is that you're a neutral public forum. Do you consider yourself a neutral public forum, or are you engaged in political speech, which is your right under the First Amendment.

ZUCKERBERG: Well, senator, our goal is certainly not to engage in political speech. I am not that familiar with the specific legal language of the — the law that you — that you speak to. So I would need to follow up with you on that. I'm just trying to lay out how broadly I think about this.

CRUZ: Mr. Zuckerberg, I will say there are a great many Americans who I think are deeply concerned that that Facebook and other tech companies are engaged in a pervasive pattern of bias and political censorship. There have been numerous instances with Facebook in May of 2016, Gizmodo reported that Facebook had purposely and routinely suppressed conservative stories from trending news, including stories about CPAC, including stories about Mitt Romney, including stories about the Lois Lerner IRS scandal, including stories about Glenn Beck.

In addition to that, Facebook has initially shut down the Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day page, has blocked a post of a Fox News reporter, has blocked over two dozen Catholic pages, and most recently blocked Trump supporters Diamond and Silk's page, with 1.2 million Facebook followers, after determining their content and brand were, quote, “unsafe to the community.”

To a great many Americans that appears to be a pervasive pattern of political bias. Do you agree with that assessment?

ZUCKERBERG: Senator, let me say a few things about this. First, I understand where that concern is coming from, because Facebook in the tech industry are located in Silicon Valley, which is an extremely left-leaning place, and I — this is actually a concern that I have and that I try to root out in the company, is making sure that we do not have any bias in the work that we do, and I think it is a fair concern that people would at least wonder about. Now ...

CRUZ: Let me — let me ask this question: Are you aware of any ad or page that has been taken down from Planned Parenthood?

ZUCKERBERG: Senator, I'm not. But let me just ...

CRUZ: How about moveon.org?

ZUCKERBERG: Sorry.

CRUZ: How about moveon.org?

ZUCKERBERG: I'm not specifically aware of those ...

CRUZ: How about any Democratic candidate for office?

ZUCKERBERG: I'm not specifically aware. I mean, I'm not sure.

It is unless you are discriminated against as a protected class.

For example: no democrats is fine. No gays allowed is not.
First Amendment rights.

You have to be a part of a protected class. I could be wrong, but if this site banned you because they found out you were gay...you have a complaint. However, if they banned you because you were for/against Gary marriage...they can do that.

They can ban for your opinions, but not because of who you are.

It absolutely is. You just agree with one side of it and not the other. Inciting violence is inciting violence. Glad to know you’re good with people inciting violence as long as it’s against conservatives.
Sounds like you're claiming Jones for your side.
I haven't endorsed or approved of violence.

Jones is a peerless loon.

It's not as simple as that. This is the main point from the wall of text posted above. Face book must remain "neutral" politically to maintain protection under Section 230.

I can't stand Alex Jones, so I don't know why he was banned. Could be well deserved, he is crazy.

Lol. There’s a difference between being politically neutral and shutting down snake oil salesmen who lie as a form of income. The fact that Alex Jones is being equated to a run of the mill right winger is ****ing mind blowing to me. If Alex Jones is a “right wing” journalist then this country is ****ed.

Social media is not a right. Case closed.

And thank God someone is finally holding the conspiracy assholes accountable.

Take this to the Supreme Court. I hope Alex Jones does file law suits and that’s where ends up. Shut these idiots down once and for all.

And another thing is. What separates these guys from rush limbaugh and John Stewart. Savage and Colbert???? Dudes that literally have the sole purpose of skewering the other side. All have legions of followers. Everybody has a problem with the guy that does it against their side but excuse their guy that does the same.

If you think Jones is about skewering “a side” then you don’t know a lot about Jones.

This is the same guy who led the 9/11 is a conspiracy movement against Bush and Cheney. The only thing right wing about Alex Jones is that he believes everything in the government is a conspiracy controlled by the Illuminati and it must be destroyed. Hence, he supports “small government.”

That is until our President started saying positive things about Alex Jones, which basically legitimized the asshole.

But if we are going to act like Jones is legitimate then he should be held accountable like a legitimate source.

Also, that’s not to say that Jones hasn’t raised SOME legitimate points and questions. His stories on Bohemian Grove are interesting to say the least. Bohemian Grove is also a Republican summit — not that it matters at all. The difference between that and his other “stories” is that Bohemian Grove factually exists and is secretive, which basically fuels people like Jones.

@toonces11 I think the biggest difference is the tone and extremity of the message. The guy is nuts, or acts nuts anyway.

I just find it odd that they all decided to ban him at the same time. It doesn't seem like a specific incident that set it off which would make sense.

@bkingUK Don't forget the gay frog's. I'm pretty sure that legit.Winking

They are limiting liability with the Sandy Hook lawsuits coming up. (Willingly publishing slanderous material.)

100% agree is communist like censorship. If they ban him, they’re going to have to ban tons of others both on the right and left. There are plenty of extreme leftists that should be banned if Alex Jones is.

I'm not an Alex Jones apologist, but this isn't an unbiased enforcement of website terms. Notice they don't provide or even quote examples of the supposed hate speech.

We're going to see more censorship of influential conservative voices under an arbitrary designation of "hate speech." Silicon Valley twits like Zuckerberg will impose their will like fascist dictators. It's going to be disgusting.

Nope. Jones is worse.
I’m not sure about if it matters who is worse. Everyone I mentioned is consumed by politics and funneling negativity towards the opposition. If they are all part of a growing problem, does it matter who is the worst? Sure.....start with jones and his ****ing insanity.....but don’t stop. Go down the line without worry or bias about political affiliation and Eliminate the platform these clowns use to sway the general public. It’d be a much different world if these guys would use their roles in a positive and unifying manner.

I just wonder how many people who listen to Jones believes what he is saying, and who just listens for the insanity/comedy aspect. Of course there are some who are crazy and believe him, but I'd say the majority know hes just a loon.

**** me... you can’t tell the ****ing difference between comedians making political jokes, and some asshole who insists Sandy Hook was faked and those parents are actors, that Bill Gates is trying to wipe out certain races, that Hillary Clinton ran a child sex ring out of a pizza place, that the US government actually sets up all of the crazy person shootings we see, and that Satanists are legit taking over America? T, are you ****ing kidding? Holy shit, you cannot be serious. You can’t be.

The fact that anyone here professes having never heard of Alex Jones means you are either a liar, or you are so painfully uninformed you should just not participate in anything remotely resembling political discussion. Jesus.

Btw, Donald Trump said Jones’s reputation is amazing.

Pieces of ****ing trash.

You are giving people way too much credit. Dude, something like half of Republicans believed Obama was a foreign born Muslim. Most of those same people were angry at his racist PASTOR. People believe absolutely insane shit, because there are literally a lot of people out there whose IQ is that low. A LOT of people.

No offense sir, but I find this post to be 100% bullshit. It’s not in Facebook’s interest to play politics with users. YouTube was actually too lenient with Jones. They demonetized his videos due to fears of advertising backlash years ago — meaning they don’t profit from his videos.

YouTube is known for aggressively shutting down accounts that violate their terms. Jones has gotten away with this shit for years where many other YouTubers have been taken down or suspended for much less.

And regardless of all this, Facebook and Google can do what they want. There are thousands of companies waiting to take their place if they go too far and lose their user base.

Oh, boo ****ing hoo. Typical conservative... you want businesses to be able to be unfettered, to have the ability to operate the way they want, until they do something you don’t like, and then you whine like a bitch.

Some of the posters on this forum are pieces of ****ing garbage, taking up for an absolute POS like Alex ****ing Jones when companies exercise their right to not allow him free rein on their platforms, as is their right.

Alex jones is a turd in the same fashion al sharpton is a turd. Both real turdy.

I don't like Al Sharpton, but these two are not even in the same ballpark. They're not in two different ballparks in the same state, for that matter. Surely, you recognize this?

Not boo hooing. Just pointing out that it's pathetic that Silicon Valley is going to suppress any views but their own.

I'm actually more of a classical liberal and can't stand extremism on either side. Or the assholes in the republican and democrat establishments.

But the far left right now is a bunch of fascist, race-baiting hypocrites. Most would fully support a 1984-style police state in which all differing opinions are quelled and anyone offering them locked up. What's really twisted is that no one bothers to fact check anything that is said about a designated "conservative wackjob," so the mob prepares to burn someone at the stake over a horribly twisted or false statement. They know that facts aren't necessary so they take the liberty to lie their asses off to further their agenda against said person or group.

lurkeraspect84, for sure. Fvck that guy.
