ACC schools have been routed from the field. Maybe, they can save some face today, but the damage is telling. Who is left to stand up to the juggernaut aka B1G?

The Big 12 has talent at the top, but perhaps it will be the conference formerly known as a CFB conference to thwart Midwestern domination?

The twist and turns of CBB...
It would suck to be forced to eat corn 3 meals a day.

SEC, SEC, SEC!

lol the Big10 is a joke. Didn't you learn your lesson last year?

We're living in the PAC12 world now, get used to it.

So we needed another thread about the ACC. Guess the FSU fans thread wasnt enough for the irrelevant UT folks.

This thread isn't about the ACC as much as it's about the power vacuum the ACC's implosion has created.

Irrelevant UT folks indeed sir!

Swords or pistols?

I said it in one of the other 10 threads, thatbim not so sure its not the SEC and i cant ever remember saying that. I think uk is a legit contender, and i think teams like Tenn, auburn, alabama, and arky all have the potential to make a FF run as well. But u could say that about probly 30-40 teams at this point in the season, imho.

Florida and LSU also looking legit. I bet the sec winner this year still loses 5-6 league games.

Serious question. Are you proud or really care about how your conference is viewed?
Kentucky fans have taken a lot of shit over the years from ACC fans trashing the sec as a basketball conference. Rightfully so. Outside of Uk and Florida for a stretch the league wasnt very good. Times have changed Now. I can see why it’s a nice moment for Kentucky to throw it back

Yup, if you can dish out you gotta be able to take it. I for one can't say anything negative about the SEC right now because they are far better than the ACC. Still have a long season ahead of us tho.

You know, you could reach back to y'all's rich history to combat the upstarts yet you choose to stand in the moment. I have to admire that. Spoken like a true champion. Cheers to you

The issues with some SEC teams, like Tennessee for example, is they tend to suck when it matters in the tournament. UNC is hot garbage right now but it still may not be a bad bet to think they would go farther than Barnes in the tournament. Hate it because everyone knows I pull for the Vols some but it is just reality right now.

Until recently UT has not been able to stock the cupboard with 5 stars like UNC has. I would say this has more of a bearing on things than anything else. 3 stars can only carry you so far in the tourney. UT has some talent on this years version, so that will more than likely be the deciding factor.

So maybe, Barnes coaches them up and this year the UNC coach is coaching them down.

I don't care how my conference is viewed. Numbers and stats do a good job of telling the story of how conferences perform. Is it nice to throw the conference pride in others faces in hoops for once? Absolutely. Others have nailed it. The amount of shit SEC schools have gotten over the years for bad basketball is endless.

SEC's rise has been in the works for a while. SEC made it an emphasis, hired a bunch of good solid coaches, recruiting picked up and after a few seasons, here we are.
I also think the money that started coming into the schools with the SEC network that got started back in 2014 has also helped. Before many basketball games for the SEC outside of Kentucky weren’t on tv very much for people watch nationally. Now all games are able to be watched.

Which along with commitments from schools to the sport has also upgraded a lot of facilities.

The ACC blows this year. The B1G just blows a little less.

I am trying to let last year’s Tournament flop both be “eye opening” and not be too heavily weighed in my opinion of the Big Ten.

I don’t think the Big Ten was anything less than a very good conference last year, and yet it was clearly overrated or it would have done better in the Tournament. At the same time, shlt happens in March, and one bad year doesn’t mean the B1G couldn’t have a fantastic Tournament this year.

Honestly, I think the take away from last season should be that the whole ranking conferences by how “good” or “bad” they are might be a waste of time, or at the very least not very relevant come March.

I agree w a lot of this. For the most part all of these teams are being prepared for the tournament whether it’s the B1G, ACC, PAC, etc. Being in the “best” conference doesn’t equate to being that much more prepared for the tournament most years.

I also do think the B1G and especially the ACC are down this year all things considered.

Best conference in football AND hoops. Come get some.
Not so sure it is the best in football anymore. Sure alabama and georgia are solid but alot of usually good programs are down like Fla, Lsu, UT. But UK/ole miss/arky are all solid so i guess not a huge diff. Maybe big10 could make an argument but id still prob go SEC.

But yea all the conf talk is just noise to me. I mean one game could swing the entire outlook of the entire conf. Case in point oregon vs OSU. If ohio state had won that game the big 10 would be viewed much much higher and the pac 12 would be viewed as a terrible. The big ten would also prob be lookin at puttin mich and ohio state in the playoffs(maybe).

Right, it is more of a Barnes thing than a UT thing. He is a fantastic coach but he just isn't very good in the NCAAT.

I suppose you'll need to reformulate a response after you reread my comment on 3 star athletes in the NCAA.

No, it is mainly a Barnes issue. He has always been a poor tournament coach. He is now the coach at UT so they sort of have the issues, good and bad, he brings with him. He had the same issues at Texas.

Would love to be wrong and I hope Tennessee does great in the tournament going forward.

I'm glad you would love to be wrong cause you are. Barnes got bumped from going to the Elite 8 in OT. UT has played a couple extremely close tourney games. Sometimes, it's just luck if a player fouls a 3 pt shot. It certainly isn't the coaches fault. Finally, with higher quality players it stands to reason that your team will perform better at tourney time. You can only coach up limited talent so much.

Eh, his track record speaks to more than luck.

Your assessment is lazy. It is similar to someone throwing a bucket of paint on a canvas and calling it a piece of art.

Sure, or similar to someone seeing how x performs over an extended length of time and formulating an opinion based upon that.
You were the one saying UNC sucks this year. If their lead holds up against UM are they all of a sudden great?

No. Michigan is just not very good offensively.
Your fan experience must be miserable. You lose a game and you're ready to string up a new coach. Y'all beat a rank team by 20+ and it should have been by 40+.

No idea what you are talking about. We shouldn't have beaten them by 40+, just not sure Michigan is that good. UNC's defense looked a lot better but IMO there are still some serious issues on this team. It isn't about being positive or negative but just honest in what I see. If it was a negative experience for me I wouldn't watch.
