Texas Tech

I don’t know about an easy title favorite.

They could have easily called a foul there and I was surprised they didn’t. It’s not unusual for refs to swallow their whistles in late possessions though unless it’s incredibly blatant.
Nah, we struggle too much with size. We’ll have a good record and 1 or 2 seed by tourney time, but if we run into an Arizona or Tennessee or Purdue we will be going home unless we shoot well from three.

I do think we got away with one against OSU for sure. Lots of body on that one. We will get those in AFH at times. But we also play in a lot of hostile environments and that call goes against us on the road, so I don’t mind when it benefits us.

I mean, I don't mind it ever when it benefits UNC, lol. Give me the calls all day.

Maybe, but if you run into Tennessee in the tournament you will win. Zona I do really like and but I would love Kansas in a matchup against Purdue even with their size. The tournament is tough though. There is always some luck involved. But Self has proven himself and this team has tons of toughness.

Take it easy on them. Have you ever been to Lubbock? It's in the middle of nowhere and living there has to be bad enough.

I’ve never been to Lexington, Kentucky. Is it in the middle of somewhere? Tons of exciting things to do? Horse racing museums etc?

? Weird remark for a game where Tech only got called for 5 fouls the entire game and shot 3 times the FTs than KU.

It was 12 to 4 not even Bob Huggins would get worked up by that.

If you admit that Tech got away with a lot of fouls, which helped them get back in the game, why is it an injustice that they didn’t get a call at the end?

Because we were at home. Kansas would get that call at home.

We just have to keep winning so eventually we can be a brand and get those calls. Like Virginia guard tripping over his own guy and it being called a foul on us in the championship game.

That and hitting some crazy shots they’d normally miss.

Gotta feel good getting out of Lubbock with a win on a night they’re hitting buzzer beaters with a hand in the face and hitting ill-advised deep threes. Their defense isn’t what it has been in recent years. The only guy they seemed to want to guard on the 3 pt line was Grady Dick. They gave open looks to everyone else.

We are a better shooting team than last season. 31.4% from 3 last season. 36.7% this season. TTU Defense was nerfed by NCAA by moving back the 3 point line which makes for more space to cover.

I'm just saying Lubbock isn't within 300+ miles of any major cities. That's kind of the definition of "middle of nowhere".

Hey, it was good enough for Buddy Holly and Patrick Mahomes.

And….a bunch of angry dudes with massive chips on their shoulders. 😆

You guys got a really good whistle on your own court. I mean…..great when you think you can go an entire game with 4 personal fouls. You went 70% of the game before you were whistled for foul #2. That has to be an all time record. We were easily the better team that withstood wild three points guarded bombs all night. We played our b/c game and came out with a lucky-ish win. The refs screwed TT as much as the terrible hair cuts did.

It really has nothing to do with brand. Home teams get calls, especially when there’s a loud atmosphere. KU has consistently been whistled for more fouls than opponents this year, and often with way less FTs.

You got most of the calls tonight. You can’t expect every call. On a closer look, that wasn’t even a foul.

Thought that was a trip. KU guy put his leg right into him. Looks like two games in a row where Kansas gets away with a pretty obvious late foul.
Yep, there were two fouls by KU at nearly the same time as the KU player pulled down the Tech forward that was getting rebound position, while the driver was undercut and tripped. I can assure you that if that play happens in Lawrence and KU had the ball, both would have been called.

I'm just trying to figure out why that matters. Lexington is 149 miles away from Indianapolis which means what exactly? It's less in the middle of nowhere by half? Congrats?

6 PF according to the box score.

So are people assuming that Adams tripped him? Because I don't see any contact with his foot. Where are the blatant fouls?

You obviously didn’t watch the game. They weren’t calling shit all night.

Basko also fouled KJ on the dunk and they let that one go.

They only called 5 fouls on Tech all night. That’s 40 minutes of play and only 5 fouls. They absolutely fouled KU multiple times and didn’t get called. On the flip side, KU only got called for 11 fouls and got away with multiple no calls. That was the way they called the game. The Tech ball handler tripped. The body contact was minimal. There was no way they were calling that one a foul when they’d let that go 95% of the time on both sides last night. When Tech only gets called for 5 fouls all night and shoots 3 times as many FTs as KU, a team that drives to the bucket, I don’t think you have an argument about unfair officiating.

Not sure why I’m arguing with a clone fan though. I don’t think Cyclone fans have ever seen a foul on their team they agreed with. In Hilton y’all would boo your own mothers if they wore the opponent’s jersey and were taking a beating. Cyclone fans rank right up there at the top when it comes to fans with a chip on their shoulder. You guys get the shaft in every single game in every sport am I right?

He cuts his path off late, which causes him to fall. The offensive player surely has the right to that space. I am a big proponent of not calling a foul if the offensive player initiates the contact at all but that just doesn't happen here. Regardless, as we have already established, this call isn't the reason Kansas won. There were a number of calls in that last four minute segment that I thought could have put KU at the line.

You can stuff it if you like. I can point to so many calls that KU has gotten that even went outside the rules and weren’t judgement calls. Do you want me to start with a missed 1st free throw on a two shot foul late in the game in Lawrence that KU grabbed and ran down court and made a 3, then the refs realized that he was supposed to shoot a second free throw so they blow the whistle and go back to shoot the second free throw and allow the 3 point shot to stand that was made on a dead ball? Clones lost by 2. Or how about just last year when Grill clearly hits a 3 late and they only give him a 2 and replay clearly showed a 3. Then shortly thereafter KU goaltends on a layup that replay showed was well after the ball hit the board and in the auto review window at the end of the game. Clones lose by 1. This crap has happened for years. Teams shouldn’t have to be 5-10 pts better than KU because KU gets the benefit of the doubt based solely on reputation….so once again you can shove it

I doubt its b/c the refs like Kansas, but I can def understand if its b/c they hate ISU and their fans.

I remember the goaltend. That was a pretty bad miss. The others I don't remember. But that's nice that you remember a few bad/questionable calls over the years. I remember plenty that went against KU too. Anyone can single out a few calls, especially over a period of many years. But can you show that KU consistently gets calls in their favor? Considering that KU is middle of the pack in foul disparity in the Big 12, and often has more fouls than opponents, I doubt you can.

I remember them because the opponent is always the same one. Having to be 5-10 pts better than KU regardless of where the game is played, gets old.

So one allegedly blown call equates to 5-10 points? Interesting.

Considering that Tech shot 3x as many FTs last night, wasn't it KU that had to be 5-10 pts better to win?

I remember when there was a huge foul disparity in KU's favor vs West Virginia several years ago. Their fans wouldn't shut up and still bring it up to this day. KU fans explained that it was mostly due to the fact that KU was consistently more aggressive and driving to the basket while WV was settling for outside shots. Not long after, WV had a similar disparity in their favor in Morgantown. Of course, their response was "No, that's legit. We were driving and you were settling for jump shots." 😂

Big 12 fans are incapable of any objectivity when it comes to their daddies in Lawrence.

Things I learned today:

Kansas Basketball fans are equally oblivious and arrogant as Longhorn fans in Football.

I've learned that officiating only matters in the final minute and what transpires in the other 39 doesn't matter. I've also learned that every call that benefits KU is baaaad and every call that benefits KU's opponent is the right call.

That play is very hard to tell...#15 for KU blocks the view. Cannot see the playfrom start to finish. Did they get tangled, and #10 instinctevly reached out to brace his fall? Did they both lose balance through incidential contact? Did TTU guy initiate contact? I mean w/o seeing the play from start to finish, you cannot come to a conclusion..

On the drive, yes I thought that was a foul. KU defender has legal guarding position, yes...But, he has to MAINTAIN that, and he did not. He gets beat, and thus is trailing the ball. Contact, and player loses ball, and falls----Even if minimal---even if in the final seconds---you have to get that. We call that, "A to B"movement. Now I know some will say----"contact wasn't that much. They let them beat on each other in the post...."---Facts, and fair----BUT, as I have always sais---not ALL contact is equal. Contact in the paint, i.e. "the business area", is inevitable, acceptable, for the most part. But on the perimeter----or on a drive? It doesn't take much contact to impact a play. Especially on a player who is dribbling. Yeah maybe the contact was weak. But tell ya what---Go out in the yard...to the gym----have a buddy slighlty hip check you as you go up to shoot----Let me know how that goes..

In the last decade Texas Tech has a record of 138-29 @ home. Pretty solid. They are 2-8 against Kansas in Lubbock during that span.

That's because of the obvious ref conspiracy. You're just oblivious to it, man.

Borden, do you agree with Tech and Iowa St fans that there's a diabolical ref conspiracy to aid KU every year at the expense of all other Big 12 teams?
