Sporting News Names UK Team of the Decade

Where did UK fans argue otherwise?

No need for other fans to be salty. They had a criteria and UK won. Crazy, I know, considering we've just been awful at basketball since Cals been here.

I wouldn't call it salty. They can have the claim to that title all they want. Just seems a little strange when 1. The decade isn't over and 2. There are 3 teams that have more titles than the alleged team of the decade.

Certainly not something I'm going to lose sleep over...

They set the parameters on something other than just titles. For some, that's the be all end all. If UK wins this year. Big if I know, this wouldn't be an issue UK would be the runaway winner. One less title makes a huge difference to some.

For the lazy, here's the critiera they used.

A scoring system to award points for national championships, national runner-up, Final Fours, Player of the Year and All-American awards, winning percentages, NCAA Tournament wins, and NBA Draft picks. Kentucky had the top score with 67 points, followed by Duke with 60.

Argue all you want.

Other news.

Browsing the twitter machine and Zagoria has been battling UNC fans for over a week now.

Well, to be fair, he has been pretty ridiculous. I think they are more obsessed with his awful opinion on it. I would guess if you guys beat Louisville it UNC and some in the media basically imply it shouldn’t count you would have the same reaction.

I have just followed it a little and only somewhat pay attention to Zags but I didn’t realize he was like that to such a degree.

No doubt, I always thought he was somewhat level headed until this meltdown defending a certain team.

He just comes across as message board poster or something. I mean, we kill each other here for saying silly things and then acting defensive when people comment back about it.

You came off as a tad salty. I think any rational fan would take 2 final fours and 2 titles compared to 4 final fours and 1 title. But they had a criteria and UK won. Is it really hard to believe with the success we’ve had that someone would put us number one?

Again, I've been following for years, but surprised with the back and forth.

No, it's not hard to believe. But as you pointed out, it's not hard to believe people will disagree with it. In fact, "any rational fan" would disagree.

Just thought it seemed strange. Kentucky has been consistently good. No argument there. But, if I were to use the numbers that most people use for a scoring system for March Madness, Duke would still come on top. Not by much, but still slightly ahead.

Just for kicks and giggles, what exactly haven't I been level-headed about? Defending the Zags?

Just echoing the parameters used by the OT article. I'm too lazy to look it up and post it again. No doubt different parameters would change the results.

Not a big deal, really. Just looking for a little jab.

Seriously, not a bd. Mostly having fun. Kentucky has been consistently good. Just thought it was odd when there are 3 other teams with multiple natties this decade.

That scoring system suggests that a team could win 2 titles and miss 8 tournaments and still score 128 points. A different team could win 1 title, have 1 runner, go to 7 Sweet 16’s and have 1 round of 32. That would equal 126 points. The 1st team would have a higher score when I think it’s obvious that the 2nd team had a much better decade.

It’s hard to do any ranking like this for March. I’ve seen a lot of different scoring systems but having a championship be worth 4x what a Final Four is, 8x what an Elite 8 is, etc., seems to be a bit much.

I agree to a certain extent, but isn't that how most bracket scoring systems work? 1 point for 1st rd wins, and then each round doubles after that. The numbers are inflated to boost the latter rounds. That scoring system is reflective of how important it is to win in the Elite 8, Final Four, and so forth. UConn sort of fits that mold, I suppose. How many tournament wins do they have this decade outside of 2011 and 2014? So yes, Kentucky, Kansas, and UNC have all been much more consistent than UConn. But, still, two titles. Hard to ignore that.

Not looking at the criteria, nor caring a great deal, I am assuming lack of NBA talent really hurt the Heels.

Due to titles I agree. But when factoring everything in, which I don't like they did, but they did, it appears UK came out on top

You stated that any rational fan would prefer to have Duke's decade than UK's decade. It doesn't really matter what criteria the article used, if we all agree with your statement.
