Sounds like UCLA is firing Alford today

First smart thing UCLA’s done

That said, watch them throw the checkbook at Shaka (again)
They won't throw the checkbook at anyone. Howland didn't get paid when he was there either. Seems like they like to keep their salaries in the 1.5-2.5 mil a season range which is substantially less than Smart makes now. That would be hilarious though, Shaka would be a downgrade from Alford.

What blows my mind is when schools fire coaches without a damn good idea of who they are going to replace him with. If you don't have a slam dunk lined up---why make the move unless its a totally toxic situation. For the life of me I cant fathom how UCLA cant draw fans, a great coach, and consistent success.

Especially when they fire a coach mid-season. Why, just so an interim can coach for the rest of the year? Maybe it's just to let other coaches around the country know that job will be open and to let them marinate on it for a few months.

No it doesn't.

Shitty fanbase aside, UCLA could easily be an elite program again with the right guy. Get somebody in there who is able to coach elite talent and they’d suddenly turn into the west coast one and done factory.

They probably have more potential to become a powerhouse program than any other school who has struggled in recent years. School administrators just need to be willing to do what it takes to make that happen.

I did not know you lived in CA. One of my best friends lives in Palm Springs. Also another one that lives in Idyllwild.

LA sucks so hard that Palm Springs gets less than 3" rain a year! jumpingsmile
I live in Vegas. Smack dab in the middle of the Mojave.

I love that this post will rustle Indiana fans

Not even close. UCLA averaged 8,619 last year. In a 13,000 plus seat arena. That's terrible.

As for the SEC... They had three schools among the Top 10 in attendance: (1) UK, (8) Tenn and (9) Arkansas. Not to mention another, Missouri, in the Top 15.
That’s even less than Duke’s attendance at Cameron with much less seating. Up until 1988 Cameron had a capacity of 8800 and since then it’s been increased to 9314 and every game has sold out for I don’t know how many years now.

Its less than the average for Seymour Regional(basketball tourney) here in Indiana. Symours Gym, Scott Gymnasium, holds roughly 8.700...Laughing

And it's always filled up for regionals lol I've went every year that I can remember.(I live in Seymour)

Last year Romeo spent like 4 hours after his game signing autographs.

Damn, I live right down the road from Seymour. I've worked Seymour games. And you are right, the Regional is always packed. Sectional is solid as well. I've never worked a regional at Seymour(b/c of proximity, and attending New Albany). Been there for the semi-state though...Wowser. Love that atmosphere.

Damn, let me know when you are working and I'll come down and talk to ya.

The high school basketball atmosphere in Indiana is untouched, people really love their teams.

I'm not at Seymour again this year. But I have a few local games; @ Lanesville and @ Jennings County.

Edit...And the atmosphere for Indiana HS basketball is insane. I've worked college games, and some weren't close to the HS games I've worked. Especially come tourney time.

I went to high school and played at Jennings County. lol Let me know and I might be able to catch a game. I was at the game last year when Romeo got hot and went for 62. (A school record in that gym)
