SEC Getting Some Love

Not only is the SEC upgrading it's coaches and recruits, it's pouring money in to facilities. SEC has made an emphasis on basketball and it's showing.

They don't call us $EC for nothing.

Something else that will be exciting to follow is Auburn’s plan for its first practice of the season, and whether or not the Tigers can make it happen.

Colleges can begin practicing Friday, Oct. 12, and Auburn would like to hold its first practice under the lights at … Toomer’s Corner.

Yes, Toomer’s Corner.

Auburn’s plan includes installing a raised basketball court in the streets of Toomer’s Corner with lighting and seating. Practice would begin at midnight (which would be late Thursday night, Oct. 11) and fans would be encouraged to attend. Auburn’s football team hosts Tennessee on Saturday, Oct. 13, so it likely would be a packed house/street.

Auburn tried to do the same thing last year, but there wasn’t enough support. This year, the plan has momentum. It has more support. I’ve heard Under Armour would be a major sponsor and provide the court. Other sponsors have pledged support and more financing. The SEC Network likely would televise it.

Still, nothing has been finalized. Not yet. More support/financing is needed. But I will say that there is a lot of optimism, much more than a year ago, that Auburn will get it done.

Auburn will also be getting a entertainment permit from the city which would allow for alcohol to be served at the event.

That sounds amazingly dangerous....in a good way.

Nope. That would be Pearl. Love that dude. I was at USI when he coached there. Helped me get into officiating.

It’s amazing what he has done since arriving. The excitement he brings to a campus that generally only cares about football. Now we have Back to back season ticket sell outs for basketball. Tickets are tough to come by even on the secondary market. Won the SEC last year. Now going to be a top 10 team to start the season this year with two players back that couldn’t play at all last season. Recruiting is going better than ever. I grew up in Indiana so I always loved basketball the most. Wish this would have happen when I was in school at Auburn.

Good question. The year before UNC saved the ACC from total embarrassment. The other 8 teams that made it failed to advance past the round of 32.
The ACC has three teams that won the whole tournament in the past five seasons, three different schools. And the last ACC team in (Clemson) beat the SEC champs (Auburn) by 31 in the last tournament. Laughing

The B1G only sent 4 teams and they still won more games than the 8 SEC teams that made it. Congrats, I guess?
8 teams. Six gone by Sunday. Eeek. I guess since they're [SEC] "back", they'll get 3 past 2nd round???

WAIT A DAMN MINUTE!!!!

Kentucky fans have been against conference honking in basketball for a decade, now it’s alright? Lol

Pretty similar to the Big East in 2011. They had 11 teams in the tournament, and UConn was the only to make it to the Elite 8... Crazy to think UConn was in a 3-way tie for 9th place in the Big East.

UNC, Duke, and....?

That was not even remotely close to the AU team that started 25-3. The team at the end after injuries went 3-4 down the stretch and was barely a top 70 team. That team got steamrolled by Bama just a week earlier in the SEC tourney as well...

Clemson was without their best player also.
