Forgive me if I think maxey and Whitney will easily match Herro and Johnson's production. Only two top 10 recruits haven't come in and averaged at least 10ppg their freshman season and been major contributors. Skal, because he was soft and Montgomery because he was playing behind an all american.
Dukes freshman cant be labeled shooters because almost to a man scouts say they need to improve their shooting.

Michigan State is clear #1. Duke will add a couple more including Hurt. Should put them at #2. Auburn is best in SEC. Don't lose much and add a very underrated Okkora. UK needs to add a top notch Big to approach last year's team. Seminoles could crash the party. Fear the Beard. If Jerome stays in the draft UVA will be between 10 and 15 to start the year. If Washington adds McDaniels to go with Stewart they could be a scary bunch come March. More kids have declared for the draft than there are picks. Some of them will have to come back. UT could be real good again if Bones and Williams withdraw their names. If Kansas adds a big and Dotson, Grimes and Azubuike come back they will be much improved.To many variables to pick a top 5. There are a lot of ifs.
You said the players coming in might outweigh the value of the players leaving. That means you have to include PJ Washington into the equation.
Reid Travis should be compared to Sestina, since they're both bigs and grad transfers. I think Sestina will be a good player, but more likely to have Derek Willis type numbers (7-8 ppg, 4-5 reb). I'd certainly give the edge to Travis (averaged 19.5 ppg, 8.7 reb at Stanford and 11/7 at UK).
Then you'll need to have Whitney, Maxey, and Brooks provide more value than the losses of PJ Washington, Tyler Herro, and Keldon Johnson. Washington was 3rd Team All-American and Herro & Johnson were 2nd Team All-Conference. That's a tall task. I don't doubt that Whitney/Maxey will be double-digit scorers, but I don't think Brooks will be starting. Also, FWIW, Dakari Johnson wasn't a double-digit scorer either... And Duke can't be labeled shooters because of what? Ellis and Hurt are two of the best shooters in this class. But believe what you want to believe.
I never compared PJ to EJ. And yes I agree EJ and Hurt are different kind of players, however you are the one who used (>) comparing EJ with Hurt.
Just because EJ didn't have the immediate impact this year doesn't mean he wont next. He's a very talented player.
Della, how does it feel to have a coach at UT that states he preferred to go to UCLA? UCLA couldn't come up with the 5 million buyout money and Barnes said he had to stay at UT. Not a good look for UT and Barnes. I guess he feels like UT is not where he really wants to be.
Barnes is staying at UT and Barnes stated he would retire at UT. Barnes does not lie and anyone dealing with him should know if he says it, he believes it. He is a man of integrity in a world of PC. This is the thing that I like about him the most. That and the fact that he is a builder and can make a mighty structure with lesser parts (2 & 3 stars). I think Cal is a great coach (I mean that), but I wouldn't trade him for Barnes.
Barnes has won 4 of 6 from Cal and mighty Kentucky with 2 & 3 stars. UK with her lottery picks and great coach (Cal is a great coach) fell to Barnes and non Blue blood UT. Does anyone else hold such an edge over UK? I doubt it. It is a great time to be a Tennessee Vol!

UK 48 regular season championships to UT 9. UK 38 tournament champions to UT 4. 1979 last UT SEC tournament championships. UT one elite 8. UK 8 national championships. UT is on a nice run. Barnes is doing a great job but the Vols are not king of the SEC.

Tennessee had a very good season. We beat UK 2 of 3, we had the most wins in a season, coach won x2 COY and won POY. It was a good year.
I like how beating UK is your measure of success in both football and basketball.

Cal gets his team ready for the NCAA tournament and Barnes flames out in the NCAA tournament. I wouldn't trade Cal for two Rick Barnes.
According to most UK fans anything worse than a final 4 is flaming out. So, we both flamed out, but we had more to show for it.
Cal lost to a crippled team (lost OKEKE) in the NCAA that UK beat by 27. Doesn't appear he got them very ready at all.
Of course Cal went farther than Tennessee again. UT may not even make the tourney this year and Barnes is looking to leave as soon as his buyout is reduced. He already said he prefers UCLA.
In the last 4 or 5 years we have the advantage in CBB. In CFB, we have the advantage since the dawn of time.
Neither one of us may make the tourney this year, knucklehead.
