Impossible. Just ask MSU fans.
You guys just sound ridiculous. We literally won back to back to back Big Ten titles before this season and went to the last Final Four.

I would feel a statement like this is warranted if we have like 3 straight years of play like this. Saying Izzo lost it because we had one season on the right side of the bubble after 3 straight seasons where we’re champions of this conference irks me a little. It seems like the kind of trolly shit a rival would say. If Howard has 2 more seasons after this winning the conference and makes a Final Four, then follows that up with a season where you guys make the tournament but aren’t great, you would be irked if people were saying he’s losing it. It’s like you guys have memory loss.

To be clear, I’m not expecting huge things next exactly. I just want positive movement, similar to a UNC from last year this year. Just a step in the right direction after a bad year.

Aren't you glad we didn't hire Fife as head coach?
I mean---I dunno, TBH. I think he is eventually going to be the guy---Otherwise, I doubt he leaves MSU. I would not have had a problem had Fife been named the HC. I do however think this is the better route.

Time for MSU to hire Elgin Bates as an assistant for a year. Make sure Emoni comes.

We went to the last Final Four player before this year, and win 3 league titles in a row before this year.

You sound like UM guys.
Meh, just feel like he’s not standing out among his peers like he used to, and I think the college game is wearing on him more and more. He’s still a good coach, but a top assistant leaving for another team in conference says a lot at this point in his career.

An assistant going to his alma mater? Meh, Now, if he were to go to Iowa, I'd be worried.

That helps the rationalization of it, but Fife is responsible for some of their best recruits.

A lot of people love to say that but I can't think of a dumber move then to promise that to a guy 6ish years down the road. But it's nice to have the option if this goes well.

I know what you mean. Loyer was a treasure. Maybe he’ll go to IU so we can continue to enjoy watching him.

Not insinuating IU offered him a "laying in wait" position. Just saying I think Dane left MSU b/c he doesn't feel he'll get the HC gig there---And has a good chance of being named Woodson successor if it all goes well.

He should take Thomas Kithier and Foster Loyer with him. He was the lead recruiter and the reason we offered both.

In all seriousness, a good move for him. Fife was never going to take over after Izzo and now gets to coach his school. Happy for him
You guys can keep Kithier and Foster, but he was the lead recruiter on Jalen Washington, so I would be happy if he brought him 😉.

After their magical run to the final 4 they still couldn't crack the top 10 in Kenpom and they barely cracked the top 20 in Torvik. They aren't on Gonzaga or Baylor's tier. You're looking at 1 game, not the whole sample size provided. UCLA had a phenomenal run in a single elimination tournament. Do you think they make an identical run if it were best or 3, 5 or 7?
No idea who would win a best of 3/5/7, that's speculation. They did beat Alabama & UM (1&2 seeds) though, and played Gonzaga better than any other team this year, including Iowa, Kansas, and WVU. I think it's fair to say that the March/April UCLA team is a lot better than they were in November. Currently they were playing as one of the top 4 teams in the country, JMO

They aren’t a top 5 team. Fvcking off yourself

Not really....They hit a ton of tough shots vs Gonzaga...A shot chart showed that UCLA should have lost by 22, via the shots they took. But they didn't, because well, they hit a bunch of tough ass shots.

UCLA got hot----Juzang became a monster. They played above their heads, if we are being honest.

And Kithier and I smell an NIT birth!
I did not care for the hire(Woodson). But I like the fact Matta is "on the staff", so to speak...Hiring Fife is a very good move---and hire. TJD returning is big. Need for Arman to come back. I like Woodson modern, NBA style offense that he wants to use----especially the three point shot. Not sure what next year holds---Or the next 3 or 4. But its not as bad as first thought TBH.

When did I ever say he lost it?

I said that he’s coming off a really bad year by his standards and will be 67 next year so his 5 year outlook gets pretty cloudy. He’s old and me pointing that out upsets you.

Solid move for Indiana if he’s not the coach in waiting.

For MSU this past season- I just chalk it up to a bad year, even Duke, UNC or UK has that once in a while. Now, if MSU performs to this same level or worse next season, maybe a pattern is starting sadly..

Hoping we replace Fife with Thomas Kelley unless we are going outside the “family”.

Amazing Gonzaga only down 10 with the way Baylor played in that first half.
