That may have been the most poorly officiated game I’ve watched all season.. and that’s saying a lot. Absurd 😂
We got a couple breaks late. I’ll take it, we’ve had some very bizarre calls over the last month.

Just unbelievably bad. But at least the suckage happened both ways.
Paul Szelc is the worst ref I have ever seen.. and has been for years now. I don’t understand how he has a job.
I knew it would be bad early. I’m guessing TKR complained about a non-call and Szelc got in his face and barked at him. I figured he’d call Tre for his second soon and sure enough, like 90 seconds later, he calls him for a questionable charge and did so with his best TV Ted impression, with an exaggerated lunge. That was a hug call as it was TKR!s 2nd foul and USC went on a big run from there.
I’ll add that Szelc and High Knees have both spent a lot of time lately making calls that weren’t their responsibility and were too out of position to get the call right.

That first “foul” on TKR was beyond terrible.
I read a kenpom article that Szelc calls more fouls than any other ref per game.
Dude also tossed Beilein the only time ever in his career… in the first half of a game lol.
It’s the B1G. The officials may change but it’s still the same shitty officiating.
Szelc usually screws us and was doing so most of the game, especially in the first half. The conference doesn't have good officials pretty much all around. That said, Musselman is a douche

For the thinking individuals in the room...hearing this is sickening. I feel terrible for any player, coach or official that gets this. Every fan base has idiots and the big fan bases like IU are going to have more of them unfortunately. I am afraid we will hear more of this crap given the toxic combination of highly paid players, inconsistent performance and social media.
Coaches can't keep these kids from getting on line, and unfortunately there is no good way to hold people accountable.

Obviously Braden is nowhere near Ja on the talent level but he is doing some things that very few have done. I don't recall the specific thing they were talking about last night but I did see that Braden is the 2nd player in history with 500 points, 140 rebounds, 280 assists and 70 steals in the same season. The other player is Kenny Anderson.
Obviously a ton of that is usage driven (Braden is averaging 38 minutes over his last 15 games...not ideal) but still pretty impressive in my book.
5 B1G teams all still alive and fighting for seeding. Bracketmatrix has them all as 4/5 right now.

That's something Purdue fans question as well. I'd be interested in seeing Braden's splits on short rest (3 days or less) vs longer rest. I'd wager it's not pretty in comparison.
CJ Cox is good enough that in most games, he could give Braden a minute or 2 each half. Paint does a good job of stealing minutes for TKR just before TV timeouts. I'm not sure why he doesn't for Braden.
The good news is the TV timeouts are longer in the tournament so it shouldn't be as impactful but you never know.
