****Official B1G In-Season Thread****

It’s kinda funny that is the path that purdue is being attacked right now because their lack of physicality this year is a clear detriment. The fact that they refuse to play physical defense will likely be their downfall in the tourney. I’m still unsure whether or not they know they’re allowed to force turnovers on defense

Have any of you non regular IU fans watched a Rutgers game this year. Mucking it up and playing physical basketball is what they do.
I have and that is exactly the point I was trying to make here. (about both teams)

This level of tackle basketball is killing us all in the tournament. Neither one of those teams will get away with that shit for more than a game or two. The Boilies are sobbing here because I include them, which anyone with a shred of objectivity would.

I hate where we are as a league. We could do so much better.

We don’t really have the guys (overall) to play physical defense aside from a handful of dudes like Gillis and Edey. Definitely not one of Painter’s most physical teams by any stretch.

First off, I actually like our defensive style for the most part. The FT discrepancy on the whole is a pretty good indication of one way it's effective, and another is the opponent shot chart. But there are areas where we could be more physical, specifically on the wing with Morton/Newman/Jenkins.

But more importantly, I just want to shake your hand for actually seeing what's clear to any objective observer...that Purdue doesn't play a physical brand of defense any more. Pretty funny that the new resident dipshit can't see that.

If I'm Painter, I'm looking long and hard at Loyer's minutes right now. I think he'll be a really good long-term piece, but right now, he can't hit a shot and we can't hide him defensively against teams from here out.

Time to really up Jenkins minutes, and let Morton/Newman also cut into Fletcher's minutes. Maybe start him to see if he can get the shot going, but he should be closer to 15 than 30.

Yep. I was texting one of my buddies during the game and said if Loyer isn't hitting, they might as well put Morton in for defensive purposes. And then Morton comes in and hits two three. Ha! Loyer's only hit 2 threes twice in the last 14 games.

Yeah, especially against a team like Rutgers.

Morton, Newman, and Jenkins are just gonna fill that role better now that people are just going at Loyer.

This is going to be a meathead take, but osu releasing that sensabough isn’t playing today due to knee soreness is ridiculous to me. I know they’re not going to win the big ten tourney, but their season is literally on the line and their best player isn’t playing because his knee hurts

Dafuq Sparty? I threw an extra $20 on you when I heard Sensabaugh was out and you do this to me?

I almost did and then thought I've seen this dog and pony show before. I do expect msu to win but it's going to be close enough I hope my +4 holds out.

Yeah, it bumped to -6.5 for Sparty and I didn't think it was enough with no Key or Sensabaugh and OSU playing their 3rd day in a row. Oh well.

Tom Izzo and Michigan State make a final four more often than any other program in the nation. Their physicality has been a staple in the league for decades now . This made up weird narrative is certainly not hurting them.

Does Hoggard ever listen to a word Izzo says on the bench?

Feel like every time they cut away to those two talkings he’s either completely ignoring Izzo or arguing.

Gotta be annoying as hell as a coach

Seems like he's had plenty of those guys over the years.

Maybe they are just catching it more on camera these days, but I can’t remember another player that does that seemingly every game or so
They’ve always loved to show Izzo doing this stuff with players.

Looks like he needs to be a little more hands on with the entire squad though.
