Yet Michigan’s recruiting classes were never outside of the top 25. Seems like his past failings had led them to being unranked, not them having a lack of talent.
I’m not. Harbaugh wins it most years. It’s just that most years the team projected to finish last doesn’t go 10-2.
I don’t think anyone is denigrating the job he did, but the expectations he overcame were due to his own failings. MSU was thought to be bad for much different reasons. They weren’t overcoming how to make a bunch of 4 and 5 stars work.
Michigan has 3 total 5 stars. We aren’t OSU. Hugely impressive coaching job for Harbaugh to win the division over Ohio State.

I know for a fact if MSU made the Final Four this year and I started talking about how we were unranked, you would respond with something very similar. It’s not like Izzo or Harbaugh has the usually caliber of players for typical unranked teams.
I agree, but given the way voters usually vote on it (coach that overcame their expectations most), Tucker should’ve won. Harbaugh coached the best team. Tucker lifted his team a greater amount.
If MSU won the conference and made the final four he’d be deserving of coach of the year, even if a team that finishes 4th in the conference also exceeded expectations.
As an MSU fan I disagree. If we win the conference but Minny or Penn State who were supposed to be awful ends up top 15, I think their coaches would deserve it.
Davis was mocked 2nd round in ESPN’s, which may be too low. Especially if he can hit from 3 at a high clip

I feel like his handle is way too loose and his shooting is streaky but its a long season. Selfishly I want him around as long as possible but sending an athletic kid to the league early can't hurt in recruiting.
They usually don’t give MVP to the best player in the NBA either, most of these awards are narrative based
It’s loose for a lead ball handler, and even then it’s about the rate it’s improved.
NBA scouts will look at that as a sign he will work hard to get better in the league as well.

I would say based on the history of how the award is given out, alluded to by @CardinalBoiler it would be more than understandable.
If a coach greatly exceeds expectations AND wins the conference AND makes the final four, they should be coach of the year.

At least we have two players(starters) who have played in the Carrier Dome, and had good shooting games. Stewart was 8-14, 1-1 for 23 points in his only game there....Johnson did have a 6-11, 3-5 from three, for 17----I won't mention the other two games..

Probably not at this point in the year. He had a bad game or two early on, but otherwise he really hasn't forced too much against some of these overmatched opponents.
On the other hand, he was fantastic against UNC and Nova, especially distributing the ball in transition. It's really what gives this team another gear and makes us dangerous.
Harbaugh was unranked in the preseason because he underperformed last year. Should he be rewarded for that?
I think a coach winning the conference with preseason 20:1 odds is deserving of accolades and coach of the year.
I think a coach taking a team from unranked to the CFB playoffs is deserving of the praise.
