Sad thing about MD- next season will be worse somehow next season- with a new coach, prob going to have a roster like Sota's this year, most likely -roster of transfers...

Minnesota with 4 shots made with a hand in their face.

This board:

"Clearly, Iowa is terrible at defense because their ability to put a hand in the shooter's face does not affect players like our team's does"................

Bunch a f***ing geniuses in here.

Btw, when Iowa is typically among the top 3 in the conference in scoring each year......is that because Iowa is just that lucky on a game to game basis (annually), or is it because other teams played bad defense against Iowa, since we're basing this off this board's flawless logic.

🤔

Iowa’s defense sucks.

Whatever convoluted logic you need to justify that in your head is fine by me.

Maybe Fran will start to coach it next year?

Alright @Jaycg15 and @1016CC0503 - and the rest of you Illinois slappies I'm forgetting - how are we feeling heading into round 2 on Tuesday?

I'm expecting the environment at Mackey to be bonkers. I'm hoping Edey can put Kofi in early foul trouble again - but I'm guessing we won't get that luck twice in a row.

Plummer terrifies me - although Hunter returning to the starting lineup helps the defensive matchups a bit. Him having 2-3 meh shooting performances in a row probably means he's due for a big game shooting the ball.

Should be a heck of a night in the conference with Wisconsin and Sparty matching up as well. By the end of the night, either Illinois will be in a strong pole position or we could have a 4-way tie in the loss column.

I haven't looked too closely at the game yet, but I can't imagine Illinois pulling off the upset in Mackey.

I do expect the game to go differently. I don't think the refs will put Kofi in foul trouble this time, and I think Edey's elbows will be a point of emphasis; I think we'll see one call similar to against Michigan to make a point about it.

Illinois ran 51% of their plays through the ballhandler in PnR the first game. I don't think that's sustainable- the season average is 24.5%. Similarly, Purdue ran 38% of their plays through the post which is 20% higher than the season average.

Purdue is a prolific spot-up team attempting 1/5 of their shots as such, but Illinois is excellent at guarding the spot up. Illinois took that away away last time (with the exception of a few Stefanovic splashes) minimizing the damage to only 9 attempts which accounted for 9% of all possessions. Last season, Trent completely locked up Stefanovic, and it was a huge part as to why Illinois succeeded. Sasha has added to his arsenal, but I think Trent will be making a point in this game.

Overall, I think we'll see much of the same, and I think it's less of a toss up than before. I give Illinois about a 40-45% chance of pulling it off.l

So I guess I'm confused. You can't imagine Illinois wins or you think they win roughly 4.5 out of 10 times?

I don’t think it’s likely, and I think it’s about 55-60% Purdue wins at best.

Would definitely lean towards Purdue at the moment.

Kofi will undoubtedly play better than last time, but I don’t think it’ll be enough. Plummer has really struggled from deep the past couple games and Curbelo isn’t replicating his performance from last time.

While I think Frazier is the best perimeter defender in the conference, Ivey is the best perimeter offensive player… and offense usually wins out, especially at home where Ivey will feed off the crowd.

Only way I see us winning is if Trevion/Edey get into foul trouble AND our role players are hitting. Da’monte, Grandison, and whoever is in at back-up center need to be playing well.

75-71 Purdue

Prepared for a good game on Tuesday. I'll be in attendance. I'll also be prepping for large and loud section of the Illini fanbase absolutely crying and shitting their pants about the referees and Zach Edey's elbows.

Purdue getting some transition opportunities will be big, IMO. I was surprised Stefanovic got as many clean looks as he did in Champaign - and will be shocked if he gets them in the half-court tomorrow. Need to get some looks as a trail man on the break and/or in scramble situations after an offensive board.

I do know that I might lose my mind if Purdue has Hunter/IT trying to fight over the top on PnR action with Curbelo. That's a classic situation where if he's hitting 2+ threes off the bounce, then you shrug it off and deal with it.

Iowa fans stick corncobs up their bums.
And other things other places evidently

Is Bosmans-Verdonk hurt or has he just fallen out of the rotation? He didn't score a ton, but gave you guys great minutes in the first game.

If Juwan doesn’t start worrying about the regular season, there might not be a tournament for Michigan to worry about.
Can’t lose 4 starters and not have the recruits live up to expectations and expect to make the tournament .

Michigan has accomplished more in the last 10 years than Purdue has in the last 50

An even better retort
Well yeah? You’re Michigan. National brand. Infinite resources to throw at athletics. Frankly, the lack of national success you’ve achieved with your brand and resources is shameful. Falling for the trap and hiring a former player who will be fired in 2 years is also a weak move as well. Between that and the Harbaugh reality show, your AD is honestly a joke these days.
