Nikola Jokic is the most unique NBA player ever..

We are talking about two different things.

I am talking about playing at a high level in their 30's..

You are talking about injuries.

Body types comes into play. Just look at Shaq and his decline
Shaq didn’t really get fat until latter half of his tenure with the Heat when get went to the suns etc. I get what you’re saying but I don’t, Jokic hasn’t really had an injury yet, and he’s almost 26.

I said the next 5-10 years.

Because of this I would look elsewhere.

Was his final season or two with the Lakers were the decline started with Shaq. Really became apparent with Miami.

Funny thing is. The one player I really wish I could rewire when he was a child was in that trade
Lamar Odom

He could have been a legend...
But had zero self control. Another player whose lack of self control ruined his career.
He was thin so if was even more noticeable.

Guy would eat nothing but jelly beans all day

Eh, I still don’t see it as a concern w Jokic, and he’s averaging a triple double as a big. He’s special. Just enjoy god dammit. If anything a player like AD and Embiid have more chance for injury with their style of play.

That is why I would take him for a year or two.

But you will see a decline with Jokic especially considering that he plays on the perimeter so much. His decline will be earlier and more sudden than others.

Injuries could compound things if they happen. My point has nothing to do with injuries as most of them are unavoidable

I was responding to a post about Sabonis so I looked at the years he was in the NBA to compare them to Jokic.

Fair enough. He was well below Jokic production wise though, more than the variance in league wide scoring alone could account for.

I disagree. I don’t see Jokic having any major injuries affecting his style of play any time soon.

You are talking about something totally different than me.
Talking about Jokic staying elite and his play declining even without injuries.
This is the fear with him and why he has tried real hard to become more disciplined.
After a few games he is proving people wrong. But interested where he is at the end of the year

But this is you talking about hypothetical injuries that haven’t happened yet, and may not ever happen. Not sure what your angle is here.

Players decline with age. This has nothing to do with injuries

NBA teams look at their investment while agents attempt to show that players will continue their production.
There are a lot of red flags with Jokic.

The reason why I said I would take him for the next year or two.

But 5-10 would be difficult.

The question in regards to Jokic is when does the decline start and how steep is it

I don't know if you deliberately cherry picked a low scoring period, but if you go back to the 1980s scoring was about what it is today.

I was born in the 80s and really can’t remember the nba pre-Jordan. My bad, I’m just personally not used to seeing such high scoring games, but I’m 35 so I just don’t remember the 80s.

From my perspective scoring seems to just be going up and up and up, but if I was introduced to the nba in a low scoring era then that makes sense that I’m incorrect in my assessment.

How would a big who plays on the perimeter decline faster bc of age than a big who relies so much on athleticism and speed/quickness like AD. I don’t get that one. If your saying it’s a one off thing with Jokic bc hes already in what seems like questionable shape for a professional athlete. I haven’t seen DENVER yet this year, is he skimmed down like bubble Jokic, he’ll it’s only been a few months.
