Most Underachieving College Basketball Program Of All-Time?

UNLV take the cake, dude. The school administration actually try to kill the program
The Fuchs administration is successful. There maybe 1,500 fans in the T&M now vs 20K pack the isle fans...standing room only in the late 80’s to early 90’s....you can’t even hear a friend standing next to you

They want to be Harvard of the West instead of just being a basketball Mecca

If you want to see a school admin who try their damnest to kill something take a look at UNLV.... BEEN doing it for nearly 30 years. They even told the coach to not walks any grey line...how the f@ can you compete? Now UNLV HAVE this shiny new $2 Billions stadium to share with the Raiders and a $35 millions Fertitta complex on campus for the athletes to eat and stay But the f@cking administration is still a welfare collecting and eating POS

Our AD try and fail to recruit Morton Poser as our next coach, how f@ck up is that? Maybe she think she can get Sister Mary to come along? UNLV IS A CLUSTER F@ck

Agree. That athletic department is loaded with every advantage available; money, facilities, access to talent. And they are pedestrian year after year. They should be challenging Kansas every damn year.

They did under Barnes especially in 2000s

Honestly we should have more natties.

But our regular season and non-natty tourney accolades are the best in the business.

He has a stretch of success but even with that, he only had 2 Elite Eights and no Final Fours in 16 years.

Barnes made a Final Four in 2003. He also had to deal with a lot of turnover. He was kind of doing what Calipari and K are doing now on a lesser scale. Off the top of my head the following guys all left school before their eligibility was over and all but P.J. Tucker did so before their Junior year.

Daniel Gibson
P.J. Tucker
LaMarcus Aldridge
Kevin Durant
D.J. Augustin
Dion Dowell
Mike Williams
Avery Bradley
Jordan Hamilton
Tristan Thompson
Corey Joseph

All of those guys were McDonald All-American's and most of them were in the running for 1st team All-Conference and even All-American awards, except for Mike Williams and Dion Dowell.

I think Barnes did a great job there considering he lost arguably his most important player + Seniors every single season. From 2003-2011 his teams were consistently in the Top 10. He just wasn't a great tournament coach. I think by the time he left it was just one of those situations where he was ready for a change and Texas was ready to move on.
