Here are the stats from last season. Everyone recorded stats last year, minus Kennedy Chandler, who is the #1 rated point guard in the 2021 class. Ranked 6th overall by RSCI.

Not sure anyone is a head and shoulders above everyone else. Truthfully, there are probably more than 10 legitimate candidates who could be the most impactful point guard. Who's the best? And who deserves to be on this list that was omitted?

I really like Gillespie @ Nova. But if we are basing this off of impact and not actually picking the best one, I will probably go Remy.

It's pretty similar. Here are the top ten players of my "150 most impactful players" in 2021. Garza was the best player - and the most impactful. I think Dosunmu and Butler are appropriately 2nd and 3rd on my list.

1. Luka Garza, Iowa (1)
2. Ayo Dosunmu, Illinois (7)
3. Jared Butler, Baylor (5)
4. Cade Cunningham, Oklahoma State (3)
5. Davion Mitchell, Baylor (111)
6. Drew Timme, Gonzaga (18)
7. Corey Kispert, Gonzaga (45)
8. Evan Mobley, USC (16)
9. Chris Duarte, Oregon (109)
10. Jalen Suggs, Gonzaga (35)

Yea, might have been overthinking it. I can't go wrong with either guy I listed. If Carr was a better shooter, I would have picked him.

wow, that's a tough one. Obviously Gillespie stands out (assuming he is healthy), but after him how do you not like Abmas after watching him in the tourney? Is Carr even a PG? Isn't he a straight 2? Like Curbelo a lot too. And of course there is Remy too. A few I haven't heard of as well.

I'm gonna vote for Abmas just cause I doubt other people will and he deserves some hype for his play last March.

No shame in picking Carr, Sheriff is right there with you lol.

I was considering voting for Abmas, Davis, and Pippen at one point. But, I figured none of those schools will be in the top 25, so I ultimately went with Gillespie. He doesn't have the highest ceiling, but he probably does have the highest floor.

He does have a legitimate case. I mean, he brought Oral Roberts to the Sweet 16 and he led the nation in scoring. Abmas is a big deal - and he merits all of the attention. With Obanor out of the picture, he very well could average close to 30 ppg. Hoping his teammates can be halfway decent; would love to see him in the NCAAs again.

Marcus Carr is a closer.
They will run some pick and roll with Tre Mitchell/Dylan Disu
But Timmy Allen will be the scorer early in games
Carr’s numbers should take a hit but ultimately will end up a better player
But Carr wanting to take over games is important for the last 2 minutes

I haven't voted yet; Gillespie makes sense, but I heart Quinerly.

Neither are the one I want it to be, tho

Bama is going to have a dynamic backcourt with the likes of Quinerly, Shackelford, Davison, and Burnett. Feel like Quinerly could explode this year. Definitely has All-American potential.

Looking at these names, this returning PG class sucks. I might give it to Kennedy Chandler since at least he a projects as a starting NBA point guard.

@dukedevilz You should add Jaden Ivey from Purdue, Will Richardson from Oregon and Jeremy Roach from Duke to this poll.

Actually Jaden Ivey is clearly the best but is he not considered a "pure" PG?

I see Jaden Ivey primarily as a shooting guard. He is undoubtedly a top 10 two guard.

I've heard Roach is improving, but not confident that he'll be a top 10 point guard.

I actually have Will Richardson rated ahead of Curbelo and Chandler. But, I believe those two have higher ceilings, so I gave them the nod.

There's lots of quality players not on this top 10 like Prentiss Hubb, Andrew Nembhard, James Akinjo, Tyger Campbell, Xavier Johnson, DeVante Johnson', Will Richardson, Mike Miles, Myreon Jones, Antonie Davis, Kyle Lofton, Grant Sherfield, Marreon Jackson, etc.

Abmas struggled in the NBA Draft scrimmages
I was high on him.
I am interested in seeing what he can do by himself

His size isn't going to help him in the pros, obviously. Still think he might be drafted in the latter part of the second round.

But the kid is a superstar in the college ranks. I think he'll average north of 27 ppg. Just not sure if he'll have enough support from his teammates to make it back to the tournament.

They had some other players…
Their coach Paul Mills is decent. He is from A&M but even with that earned a lot of respect when he was here coaching in the Houston area. More than that he grew up in Houston. Actually grew up in a black neighborhood.
We will see. That Summit League is a decent league. Oral Roberts came very close to losing to I believe South Dakota in the tournament championship game

South Dakota State will be the team to beat in the Summit. They won the league last year and return all 5 starters. Also, Applebees is sponsoring some of the SD State players, so you know they're legit... I'd still be okay to see ORU back in the tournament, though.

Andre Curbelo is currently in the lead with 30.8% of the votes. Who knew?
I am sure he was good last year. I am sure he'll improve, I know he was highly ranked in HS. But I rewatched Illinois vs Loyola and Andre sucked you know what. Every time I looked up he turned the ball over or bricked a show. Him over Carr, tyty or remy. Naw

Dana Altman has proven his ability to develop veteran guards. I'm betting on a huge season for Richardson assuming he stays healthy.

There wasn’t a player on our team who wasn’t dog shit that game. Perfect storm of suck. In the BTT, Curbelo looked awesome.

TyTy? Please.

I would expect 1st Team All-Conference, at the bare minimum. He would have been my next guy on the list (perhaps I should have included him over Kendric Davis or Paul Scruggs), but he definitely merits consideration for being one of the elite point guards in the country.

I'm a big fan of TyTy. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up being the most important player for Kentucky.

For some reason I was thinking he was a combo guard. I had Sahvir Wheeler slotted in at the point guard, and TyTy at the two. If I do another thread like this, I might include him in with the top 10 shooting guards, even though he's probably more of a one.

I know it's mostly, not all, homer speak, but everyone who's watched him has came away impressed. tifwiw

I can’t go with a freshman but I’d like to.

I didnt vote for him but I do love his game.

And i might be the only one, but i feel like gillespie is overrated. Hes solid, but not a guy id pick to go win me a game.

Not sure if hes ever even been the best player on Novas team, much less the best pg in the nation. Idk i realize those arent the same things

Curbelo is fun to watch. Arguably the most dynamic point guard in the nation.

Gillespie's ceiling is much more limited than others, I would say. But, he was Co-Big East POY last season. And 3rd Team All-American by the NABC. I suspect he'll be Nova's best player, so if they're a top 5/10 team, he'll have a fighting shot at being one of the premier point guards.

From that list I’m picking Gillespie to run a team, and it’s not even close for me. A well-rounded, steady winner

^^^^ wrong thread buddy

Yea i guess i just dock gillespie bc he doesnt rack up the highlight reel plays. But I know thats not the criteria for getting the job done.

I had no idea he was co-POY in the big east last year. Or third team all american. Pretty hard to argue with all that hardware.

He made 5 three point FGs the entire season on 16% from three despite teams having to focus on Ayo. Now he’s going to be the most impactful PG in the country? This will be fun to revisit. You guys legit think he will be more impactful than Gillespie.

There are so many Illini potatoes on this board lately. Gillinois #1, #2, #3, and on and on.

Edit: Also, it’s not even them pumping up their own players with predictions of making huge improvements, they have to try to cut down other team’s players that are much more proven. Assinine to the 100th degree.
