I didn’t realize that the ACC is the only conference with every member making a Sweet 16 in the last 20 years.

I would have guessed the Big 12 and maybe even Big East would have done it too. Although admittedly I often forget about DePaul.

Everybody but pitiful TCU.

Wait...I thought you guys weren't conference honks (yeah, right) 😆

All I did was point out a fact. If you think that is conference honking, that's your call.

I'm not rooting for any of these ACC teams to do well.

Big 12 has had 70% of the conference make it in the last 5 tournaments. That's pretty good.

Teams that ended some long droughts this year:

Oregon State made the sweet 16 for the first time since 1982
Arkansas was 1996
Oral Roberts was 1974

You think a team that went 19-12 (10-10 B1G) was destined for the Sweet 16 in 2020?

I said "decent chance", not destined. I don't think it was a lock, but we were a top 10 team before Livers got hurt last year then played 6 weeks without him. We were a borderline top 16 team overall.

Really? Weren’t y’all like 19-13 last year? Probably would have been a 7 or 8 seed. Not really an easy path to the Sweet 16, especially for a team that was losing a lot of games late in the season.

I've heard at least 40 fanbases claim that their team would have made a run if the tournament wasn't cancelled. It's just delusional homers.

That said, if the tournament wasn't cancelled last year, Ionescu and Pritchard were both bringing home championships for Oregon and nobody is convincing me otherwise.

We were the #15 team in Kenpom and that includes playing 6 weeks without Livers (our leading scorer when he got hurt)

Yes, I think we had a decent shot at making a Sweet 16 with Livers.

False, everyone knows UVA was going back to back. UVA would have sent Pritchard home for the 2nd year in a row. I might agree with you about Ionescu though.

There's a big difference between me saying Michigan would've made a run last year and that Michigan had a decent chance of making the Sweet 16.

Yes, I think we had a decent shot at making a Sweet 16 with Livers.

He returned with several games left and you still lost 3 of the last 4 and were handled in two of them. Doesn't sound like a team that had a great shot to knock off a 1 or 2 seed in the 2nd round.

Michigan could have made the S16, they certainly had that potential. But there were lots of teams that had the potential to do so. The tournament is just very difficult to predict

Yes we was rusty when he got back. We wouldn't have had to play a 1 or 2 seed in the second round. We would've been a 5 or 6 seed.

I'm not saying anything was a guarantee, just that we had a decent chance.

Being the number 15 team on KenPom means nothing in terms of making a run to second weekend. It’s all about the draw ad matchups.

Texas Tech with a similar record and KenPom this year was a 6 seed. Wisconsin was a 9 seed. LSU was an 8 seed.

Is it possible Michigan advanced? Sure. But I’d say the odds were less than 50% just based on the likely seed.

This discussion stems for the idea that Michigan was sure to miss it.

"Y’all caught a nice break last year with the tourney being canceled to keep the streak alive. "

Just in terms of statistical probability, not having a tourney last year helped Michigan’s odds of maintaining the streak more than hurt it. Thus “caught a little break.”

BrackMatrix had us as the top 6 seed last year. Getting into hypotheticals about matchups and draws is dumb. The fact is Michigan with a rusty Livers is probably about the #15 team in the country. Far from a lock to make the Sweet 16 and far from a lock to miss it.

Your original comment made it sound like we were screwed if the tournament was played.

If that isn't what you meant, okay. Sounded like a troll.

This year was probably their best chance since they joined the PAC 12. They just ran into a really good 4 seed.
agreed, i liked their team. i’ve got FSU going far every year it seems. i picked them over UM but now i’m not sure after seeing michigan play pretty well

A troll? I literally said it was impressive. “Catching a break” is necessary for most long March streaks. Maybe take it down a notch or two on the Michigan sensitivity?

Dude has a complex. I say that as someone who has a PhD in psychology.
