Just announced.... Whitney transferring

I’m an Illinois fan. A few of us have been monitoring his progress (ok...lack of) and waiting for him to transfer. We have a huge hole at the 3/4 and a player with his POTENTIAL would be awesome. But we don’t have any scholarships at the moment and we are already oversigned by one. I’m not giving up hope that he makes it to our campus, but a lot of other things need to happen for it to work out. A player like Whitney is worth the risk for a place like Illinois.
No matter where he ends up, I wish him luck. Kentucky is a fish bowl. As Calipari says; "I can't hide you.". The players here are forced to perform faster than maybe anywhere else based on lofty expectations. I agree . . . "Kentucky isn't for everyone", and I don't mean that in a cocky way. He could probably excel somewhere that he'd be the best player on the team. I hope that's the case for him.

His decision to transfer NOW is one of the worst decisions he will make in his life (I hope).

Leaving now tells me he doesn't understand where he's at as a player, what this decision does to his career and that he is listening to the wrong people.

But hey, maybe a change of scenery is what he needs, but I don't think so, I think he screwed the pooch bigtime.
Yeah, he should've done it between semesters like Green did or waited until the end of the year. Now he essentially loses half a season of eligibility and without a waiver, will be sitting for a season and a half. I am guessing he's just going to drop his classes and do nothing until the next term starts at whatever school he chooses. Not the smartest thing to do.

I get the feeling he thinks he’s going to go work out for some NBA teams and try to enter the draft. Big mistake

Agreed but imagine watching Sestina out perform you on the court.
Practices must’ve determined the eventual starting lineup w Whitney left on the bench, right? Or was the writing on the wall after his first 7 starts?

Writing was on the wall. Cal kept trying to play him and he did nothing but shit his pants every time. He just needed to go through the process, but clearly he wasn't willing to do that. He only has himself to blame, he had plenty of chances to perform.

I don't know of any other coach that would have played him as often as Cal did.

I was waiting for him to show something but I think game performance pushed him to the end of the bench.

Cal gave the guy a lot of rope. I can't believe how bad he looked from day 1. Most of our guys have a game or 2 where you see the upside. Even Skal, EJ and Richards, during his freshman year, had a game or two where you saw the big-time ability. Whitney looked bad are the beginning and somehow regressed to the point he was killing us when he was on the floor.

He can't be as bad as he looked but he needs a ton of work.

Its time to hang a 5* on guys who have skill, not just athleticism. Quit handing out *'s because they are recruited by Duke, UNC and UK.

Seriously. Rankings can be misleading. VJ king was a 5 star and never showed his ranking on the court. David Johnson is a 4 star, ranked 60 or 70 something, and the kid is an absolute stud.

Nominated for a "Postie"

Whitney's departure is already paying dividends. UK probably loses @ TTU if he plays

We'll see in a few years, but I think last year was the best year for talent in Kentucky in a long time. I thought Johnson, Tandy and Allen were all top 50 players and wished Cal would get all 3. If Allen can recover from the ACL injury I expect him to make a big impact at UK. Johnson obviously is now for you guys. Tandy has had a slow start due to injuries but had his best game on Tuesday. Rooting bigtime for all 3.

Speaking of, do you know if UK is recruiting Zion Harmon. We whiffed on PGs this cycle and I’m starting to think DJ may not be in college as long as I anticipated.

bet Kentucky people on why Cal never gave Fredrick a look
scored 900 points as a SR
made 102 3's on 48% from 3
named the Kentucky Gatorade POY
Named the Kentucky Championship Game MVP
now is the 3rd leading scorer for Iowa #2 3 point shooter in the BT,
3rd leading scorer for Iowa this season.

again these star ranking are more about who offers more than it is about their talent/skills.

Watch him go first round lol

It’s a weak draft. But if that happens, I give up.

He’s a UDFA, 2 way player, at best. Even then, it’s a huge gamble on his family’s behalf, and a for franchise looking to hit the jackpot for cheap.

Hope it works out for him.

I was wrong about Hamidou Diallo. It could happen again, I guess.
