Which blue blood will he be rooting for?

I hope he’s on Duke’s side.

There’s only one answer and I think everyone knows what it is.

I've heard that he likes UNC a lot based on some game he worked last year. There are a lot of historical connections between UNC and KU. Based on that, you're screwed.

So there is a built in excuse if Duke loses. Duke could lose by 25 and now claim they were the better team and should of won but Higgins was reffing the game.

Kind of takes some of the excitement out of it, but I see why UK fans come up with these excuses before every game.

Awesome Higgins is doing to day's game. In that case....

You know when I started officiating, this type of stuff never existed; fans worrying about who the officials were. And even up to the past 5 years, it never came to the forefront. It amazes me how some fans genuinely feel officials are honestly "out to get their team". It really does. Maybe it's b/c I've experienced the officiating side, and have a pretty gauge on this thought: IMO, it just doesn't exist. Sure there are certain officials who don't like certain coaches. But that goes both ways-------there are coaches who don't like certain officials. And they(coaches) certainly use that to their advantage.

I've had coaches in the past tell me, "Borden we game plan around certain officials/umpires". And I 100% get that. I was working a Sectional baseball tournament a few years back. When the HC found out I wasn't on the plate, he immediately changed who his starting pitcher was. Told me---I did so b/c this kid keeps the ball down, and we knew you liked to call that low, level, bottom of the zone pitch. I took that as a compliment. I bring this up b/c not only do coaches do this, but so do officials. We know how teams play. And we "game plan" to that. It's not being biased..........Its being prepared. I think fans get this confused.

I'vemet Higgins multiple times. He's a terrific dude. Arrogant. But really a nice dude. Does he have some, well, "feelings" toward certain coaches? I'm sure he does. Hell, I DO. But at then end of the day, we are professionals. And we do the best we can, w/o the interference of bias. Does officials sometimes lose that perspective? Sure they do. But that's human nature. We have all done so. But for the most part, I feel 100% confident that 99.99999% of all officials, call a game with the highest of integrity. And I know UK fans will laugh at this. Post 14, 000 vdeos of Higgins calls. But that's BBN. After all, they keep track of their W/L's with officials. So it is what it is. Fans seem to connect a tough loss, with a tough call. Or a bad call. Or bad calls. And then it begins:

This official has it out for us.

Good luck today KU and Duke fans. There will be bad calls. Missed calls. Just like there has been for the past 70 years. Just weird how as recent as 10 years ago, that was accpeted as part of the game. Not its suddenly agenda.

You’re still my favorite referee. I know deep down in your heart, you’re a Jayhawk today. Rock Chalk!

The only reason he even officiates is to screw over UK so he will probably only halfway be paying attention.

I hate to harp on this, but you know---it does kinda of bother me. Just like it would you if someone constantly called out your profession. I mean sometimes I do regret joining this board. I even kept the fact I was an official to myself; though it was on my profile. But really, how many people actually look at that?
Anyways..........I do feel officiating has declined. I believe it's done so for numerous reasons; the game changing, players changing, multiple, and confusing rule changes. And yes, officials themselves refusing to adapt. You know, kinda of like coaching. It's just asmuch as a revolving door for officials as it is for the players, and the coaches. Not only do they have to adapt, but so do we. Look at certain aspects of the games, and how they are called. The consistency is off the charts, BAD........Really bad. But that's not all on the officials. Some of it is coaches and their styles. The speed of some teams. The athletes some have, that some don't. But most importantly---the style. And for some reason, fans ignore these "reasons".

I've said this over and over and over. Until the NCAA approaches officiating as the NBA does, the inconsistency will continue. Until the NCAA sets guidelines, and enforces officials to adhere to this, the inconsistency of games being called will not change. I'm confused ast why CBB has not went this route. I assure you college baseball has. Its why you see the consistency you do in that game. The CBUA has made it clear: You call this zone......You use this mechanic.......You make this call for this situation, every single time. IF you do not, you will not advance. And it is highly enforced. ANd it has made for better called games. So why hasn't CBB done this? Well my opinion is they are afraid of losing big name, experienced officials who are set in their ways. In other words, a large majority of officials feel they are "bigger than the game". That they are incapable of missing a call; I know plenty who have came right out and said this.

That is a serious problem. Officials who have decided they are going to do what they want to do. SO until the NCAA fixes that, officiaiting will continue to be what it is:

Inconsistent.

Now with that being said, I still firmly believe the games are called with integrity. Sure there are conflicts. Coaches not like officials. Officials not liking coaches. But I just don't feel most of these guys let that carry over to the game. Next time you go to a game, watch the pregame between the officials/coaches. You will be amazed. Guys laughing...joking. Telling stories. Slaps on the back. Why? Well easy, respect. And mostly, we realize the difficulty both jobs are. Coaches are there to win. And that pressure can be immense. So of course emotions are going to play a role. But at the end of the day, the respect is there. Just watch the pregame next time. It'll tell you a story you probably wasn't aware of. And that is, through the yelling, the technical fouls, tetc, etc....for the most part, these guys genuinely like one another.

Excerpts for you. Let me know if you still believe 99.9% of officials operate with the utmost integrity. Lol
Why would you bring up an NBA issue? I don't officiate in the NBA. That's apples to oranges my friend. Nowhere did I say NBA. Not one time. I cannot speak of that with intelligence. I;ve never and NBA game, nor had any interactions with NBA officials. SO I wouldn't know. WHich is why, well, I didn't mention that game.

It's still basketball
But it’s a completely different league. Correct me if I’m wrong but there’s never been any scandal involving refs in NCAA history quite like the NBA one and certainly nothing in the last 5-10 years suggests there’s been any wrongdoing. Would you agree?

It's still basketball, and read the excerpts.
Its a different game, with different officials, with a different culture. Its not even close to the same thing. But keep fighting the good fight. I mean it fits your argument, right? So hell, stick with it. Even though its totally 100% irrelevant to what I said. Now had I said, NCAA AND the NBA, your statement would have some credibility to it. I didn't. SO it doesn't.

Good luck in June with the NBA draft. Again.

I mean, if you read the excerpts I posted, it's tangential and easily relates to what we see at the collegiate level.

I like the dig. Tell me, how was the CBI?

With the same damn fundamentals. It is literally the same sport. Lol. Borden is a blind homer who will defend shit officials at all costs. I hope you are intentionally being obtuse.

What it means is that there are basically 3 teams on the floor. Higgins won't miss the chance to make this game about himself

That’s a weak argument by saying it’s the same sport. You’re basically insinuating that because it happened in the NBA it must happen in the NCAA. But there’s no proof of that.

I'm very familiar with the case. The only comparison available is both are basketball. That's it. And how does it easily relate to CBB? If college officials were fixing games, you really think we would be seeing Loyola in the Final Four? And how many major swings have you ever seen on the betting lines? UVA was a 24 point favorite. If that line had suddenly dropped to 10, then you have an argument. But it didn't. My point is, if there is corruption at the CBB level with officials, we would know it. To many people would have to be involved; including those connected with Vegas. Something BY NOW would have came out. SO since its so easliy related, can you please post a link to any scandal that involved NCAA officials? You would think that would be a n easy find.

As for the CBI? Not sure., IU didn't play in it. I'm happy with where we are headed. Nice defelection though. I'd say the same thing if my coach couldn't beat a team w/o its best player, with three starters fouled out. A team that couldn't score to save its life. Yet they beat a team with 34,000 burger boys.,

Yeah, I'd be pissed to. But hey, there's the NBA draft. John gets to flaunt his ego. You guys get to watch a few players get drafted. Hear John tell the world how he is into changing lives. Blah, blah and blah. 47 NBA picks in 9 years---------1 NCAA title. But your coach is into changing lives. So I guess that's a helluva mark for him.

Defending their integrity opposed to how a game is called is totally different. You see I have evidence to back up my claim. Like in the sense of NO evidence. You do not have that luxury. You are basing your opinion on what you THINK. Not what you know.

I win.

To this day, the only outcome I've partly blamed on officiating was the Nova elite 8 loss a few years ago.

F that Philly ref. Agenda or not.

Your thoughts are based becasue your team lost. Not evidence. Just emotions. You post calls missed by Higgins. Or bad calls. Well duh----------thats part of the game. And the thing is, some of these calls aren't even Higgins call; shot clock violation vs Wisconsin. But you see,. thats the ignorance of the casual fan. You don't understand protocol. You don't understand what officialis are responsible for certain calls. But hey, it has to be Higgins because we have sub .500 record in games he's worked. Yeah, great logic. What about the officials whom you have winning percentage's of nearly 80% when they work your games? Are they biased in favor of UK? Corrupt? Are they purposely giving calls to UK? I mean how else you explain some these records, with certain officials?

It's eaier to accept at alternate reasoning. No way was UNC better. It HAD to be Higgins. Craxy thing is, you guys seem to forget there are two other officials on the floor. SO what about those guys? Are they involved to?

See I can play this game too. UK's record in games officiated by Pat Adams is 45-16. Well shit, he has to be corrupt. Loves UK. I mean how do you explain that winning percentage? What about games called by Jim Burr? UK is 42-18 in games called by Burr. How in the hell? Has to be corrupt. And this one is easy: John Clougherty. UK is 108-41 in games he's called. Oh yeah, no doubt. John was getting rich off you guys. No wonder he retired. And his son loved you guys just as much. UK was perfect in games called by Tim; 10-0. Man the Clougherty's can thank BBN for that nice retirement. How else can you explain it? Has to be corruption, right? has to be.

Just a stupid assumption.
