Can't remember if I have asked you this before or not. Why do coaches send players to mid court to check in and sit there when the next dead ball will be a timeout? Example, it's already under 16 minutes and the next whistle will be a TV timeout. Is there actually a purpose behind that? Saves time from checking in after the timeout? Or is it just them being clueless about the clock?
Next dead ball could be anything---foul, violation, etc...You wanna have your guy already checked in----Sometimes the game can move quick, and you cant get your guy off the bench, to the table, fast enough.
I am saying they are already under the 4 minute timeout cutoff and the next whistle will be a TV timeout. Why send them to the table knowing they aren't going to get in and just have to come back to the bench/huddle during the timeout?
During a media t/o, there are two horns----one at 45, the other when timeout is over. If you do not report before the FIRST horn, you cannot check into the game. So coaches have the kids ckeck in, so not lost in the shuffle of a timeout.
OK that makes sense. But why they gotta sit there after they go to the table? Why not check in and go back to the bench?

Rule for one.....Also, sometimes the media timeout is not always at the 16, 12, 8 or 4...If a timeout comes within 30 seconds of a tv timeout, that becomes the media timeout.
