Is KU a tournament team

Oh yeah well one time I was right about duke not being very good when everyone else said they would be. You thought you were so right but nope you weren’t. I was. Please acknowledge this with your next post.

Oh Ward I’m always giving you high fives bud because you aren’t a sunshine pumper like a lot of fans of their respective teams. I respect that bud.

All we need is the 2 freshmen bigs to get cleared and everything will be fine. Two 20ish ranked guys who have never played a college game should step in and dominate the deepest conference in America right?

Hahahaha. I have been waiting this entire thread for a ku fan to proclaim Preston and DeSousa will turn this team into a FF contender. Well played ward, well played. Your sarcasm is appreciated

Two bad calls in a row where even the announcers had to say: "Well, we are at Allen Fieldhouse, where you have to be more than perfect to win."
to be fair, a ku player could be murdered on the court and Fran would find a way to say it wasn't really a foul. his hate is strong.

Not sure how, I was assured over and over in the preseason Newman was a surefire All American.

Heard Svi was shooting 60% from 3 at home though, that is absolutely insane.
Pretty safe to say Svi isn't shooting 60% from 3 at home any longer.

Fran openly cheers for whoever ku is playing every game

I watched the game. He was very complimentary of KU and kept saying how they will make a run, etc, in the first half.

When it was obvious that Tech had outplayed them the entire game, Fran just called it like he saw it. Good for Fran for not falling in line.

You were cheering against ku so you couldn’t hear it

Oh I heard it. And you were cheering for KU. Too bad the truth hurt. That foul late on Graham and the alleged moving screen were ridiculous and Fran said so. Fran sees what everyone but KU fans see. Kind of refreshing that someone actually says it out loud on television.

Think this will open the floodgates on Kansas. I expect 3 maybe 4 conference losses this year.

The Big 12 is loaded. 3-4 conference losses will win the league.

The way they are playing now they're gonna lose more than that.

Ive been listening to Fran root for the ku opponent for years. Not just last night. It’s probably his schtick because he never coached any big programs so he identifies with the underdog and because his son played for OU. Listen to the other color commentators. He’s the only one who does it.

Fran essentially said ku gets the calls at home and that’s why it’s hard to win there. How does he explain ku winning over 80% of their road games?

But anyway I don’t give a shit about the announcers. I barely have the tv loud enough to hear them.

I see KU finishing 11-7 in conference play. In the 4-6 range of the conference. The talent just isn't there and 2 freshman who haven't played anything meaningful aren't gonna change much. I see KU as a 5-7 seed come tourney time. With their win by the 3/die by the 3 attitude they could lose 1st round or pull off an upset and make the Sweet 16.

Gottlieb does it too and they both are correct.

Both short, jealous, and never achieved anything significant. And you identify with them??? SAD!
Not jealous. Just tired of the uneven playing field. Was hoping that the FBI investigation would even it out and it seems like it may, indirectly, be doing just that.

Yeah you’re not jealous. You just want the refs to quit cheating in favor of the team that’s way better than yours so the playing field would finally be even. Nope not jealous at all.

Exactly. If he were better, like we were told by some, he would be playing. At this point it’s safe to assume he’s not ready and not as good as folks tried to tell us.

The only person's minutes he could take, Newman's, is the one Self slurped all off season.

If you ask most Kansas fans, I'd think an overwhelming majority would give the minutes advantage to Sam over Malik lightning quick.

I tried hinting that this type of season was coming.. but there's a few too many on this site who bathe in the Kool-Aid. Just add a big, just wait for more shooting, HOF coach.... smh.
However, I did not see the Big XII rebounding the way they did after a disappointing 2016-17.
Still don't see a legit title contender amongst the 10, tho.

Yea. The Newman situation is interesting. Doesn’t seem he’s progressed one bit since his less than stellar season at MSU. That kid has a long way to go. Crazy to think how coveted he was coming out of HS.

He's not close to next-level ready, yet him, his father and his AAU bubble seem to think it's his destiny.
It'll be quite an interesting (no, not really) off season for him and his crew. Either they recognize and tackle his deficiencies, or they pull him and send him overseas after he fails to make an NBA/GLeague team.

I mean, what's to be said? If they're shooting it well and grabbing an occasional rebound, they can beat anyone. If not, they could fall to Towson.

This is probably the year the league streak ends, but we're just getting started.

There "should" be 1-2 reinforcements on the way to take pressure off the outside shooting. It may not be enough to win the league at that point but it would make them a more formidable team for the tourney.

KU won't win the big 12 if they don't get bigs eligible. Can't just work the ball around and jack 3s and expect to win consistently.
This is my rec teams strategy. It doesnt work that well

Easily. They won't be a true contender though. And I don't think they win the B12 regular season *or* tournament title.
I disagree. KU can make a deep run. They are wildly inconsistent due to depth issues. Can lose to anybody, but they can also beat absolutely anybody when they’re hitting shots. When this team is shooting well they look as good offensively as any KU team I’ve ever seen. Problem is, when you are a jump shooting team, you leave yourself open to bad nights....and can’t make up for it by dumping it down low. I also think we’ve struggled with energy. It’s bound to happen when you’re only 7 deep.

Uneven playing field? If anything officiating hurts KU more than it helps them. KU gets calls at home. EVERYBODY gets calls at home if they have a respectable crowd that makes noise. Refs get caught up in the excitement of the game. It’s natural. So yes, KU gets calls at home, but we play in front of sold out crowds every night on the road hoping for a big W over KU. So we get the shaft on the road. However, we rarely lose at home...we usually win big, so even if we get some calls, it rarely changes the outcome. We just win by slightly more than otherwise. However, we we do lose on the road, and we lose a lot of close ones where a few bad calls here and there actually can affect the game.

The refs win for Ku cracks me up. What’s the old adage? Perception is reality?

When in truth, if anyone cared to take a look at the foul disparity in big 12 play over the past 5 years they would find Kansas squarely in the middle of the pack. But let’s not let facts get in the way.

Still don't see a legit title contender amongst the 10, tho.

That has always been the problem with the Big XII in both football and basketball. Lots of good teams, probably the most parity from top to bottom. There are very few poor teams. But they lack legit top teams most year outside of occasionally KU in basketball and OU in football. The strength of the Big XII has been in its abundance of above average teams, not in its representation of top tier teams.

At his point it’s very obvious that Self and company shouldn’t have said a word to the NCAA about the Preston car situation.

Do overs are out of the question. It's too bad the NCAA is modeled after Congress. They are so good at doing nothing and kicking cans down the road. Kids make mistakes, but that does not mean they should be held in limbo while adults fumble around with the kids future.

This year KU will have a tougher time winning the conference, and could advance farther in March. Conference round robins are tough and if I had to bet I would bet on WVU to win the Big 12. That's based on the fact that I don't feel good about Preston getting cleared. That whole debacle is just weird and I don't know if we will ever know the rreal facts behind the delay.

I can’t remember the last time Self had a team this crappy. I mean they don’t suck but no one thinks this team is a real contender. And in this current landscape that’s quite an indictment. If they aren’t going bananas from 3 all their flaws really stand out.

This is self’s worst team at ku and ku’s worst team since 1999

The 2015 KU team was similar in that they didn't feel like a real contender. Have to go back to probably 99-00 the last time a KU team felt a level below any Big 12 team let alone a non-contender.

And you have to go back to the 80s to find a ku team who didn’t make the tournament

We had a toss up game against a winless conference team at home tonight. We suck.

The 2015 team would have been alright if Alexander didn’t become ineligible and Ellis wouldn’t have gotten hurt.

But I agree. Going into the tournament I knew we had no chance to make the final four

This is easily the worse KU team since 99-00. They'll make the tournament but shouldn't be any higher than a 5 or 6 seed. And 2 freshman who haven't played a meaningful minute aren't going to turn this team into world beaters.

Next years team should be significantly better

Should have a whole bunch of talent. We'll see how Moore and the Lawson's do for a program like KU. Different animal than Cal and Memphis. More structure....usually.
