In honor of the new season that is upon us post something interesting about your school

Michigan State's Jenison Field House hosted a 1963 NCAA tournament regional game of Mississippi State's all-white team versus Loyola of Chicago's integrated team. Mississippi State slipped out of the state just ahead of the delivery of an injunction prohibiting its coach and school president from leaving Mississippi to play in the game. Mississippi State had previously rejected invitations as Southeastern Conference Champions in 1959, 1961, and 1962 because of its opposition to competing against black athletes. A documentary, "Game of Change" was based on these events.

The first game after the passing of Dean Smith, Marcus Paige threw up the sign for four-corners, and executed it perfectly hitting Brice Johnson for a baseline dunk. This game was vs Georgia tech.
UNC also wore throwback uniforms in that game to honor Coach Smith.

I wonder what the benefit is over Kentucky blue grass, also used in many parks/fields/etc.

Edit: found this.

Since 2010, all but two major league ballparks have been covered with “natural” grass – natural is within quotes as the real grass seen is often very scientifically engineered – so that means an all-time high 28 ballparks are blanketed by the surface of choice for just about all players and fans.

Which fields are covered with what are listed and then detailed on this page, the result of which involved a lengthy amount of research into the kind of sod planted, or turf installed, upon the ground of all 30 ballparks.

The choices for each are generally based on environmental factors. Ballparks based in warm climates feature varieties of Bermuda, a warm-weather grass, while those in the cooler climes are generally bluegrass ballparks because Kentucky bluegrass is considered a cool-season grass due to its cold temperature tolerant nature.

Where needed, to help offset any expected loss of color due to heat or cold, ryegrass is mixed in (by “overseeding” the sod) to keep a given field’s grass green.

A field should typically last four to eight years, but rock concerts during the summer or other events held during the offseason often lead to some, if not all, of a field needing to be replaced.

While costs to fully resod a field are not disclosed, $100,000 to $250,000 are the estimates reported by big city newspapers when their big league fields get replaced. So it’s a lot cheaper to replace all the grass in the outfield than it is any outfielder.

That covers the basics of ballpark grass and now the specific stuff laid down on each major league field follows, posted in alphabetical order by a ballpark’s current name. And to search by team, use the sidebar to the left.

I know this will not go four posts in before people start trashing other schools, but lets see if people could only post something interesting about THEIR school and not disparage other schools. I'll start

KU: has been a top four seed in 18 straight NCAA tourneys. last time they weren't a top 4 seed was back in 2000. Since then they have been a 4 seed 3 times, a 3 seed twice, a 2 seed 4 times and a 1 seed 9 times.
And only 1 'ship in that span, damn.

No but they don't have to depend on the football team to pay their bills! Laughing

They sell out for every damned game without giving away tickets! jumpingsmile

Their history started before 2005! SmokinSmile
2005? Shit, we were ranked #1 in 2002 and were in the title game in '00 after doing 1st final 4 in '94, lol.

I will take shit posting from Florida, Duke, Uconn, North Carolina and Villanova fans as they are the only schools with more than one championship in that time frame. so carry on good sir.....your lightening in a bottle team that stayed to win two allows you that right.

Lightning in a bottle? Along with those 2 titles you so respectfully reference, we got 4 final fours and 8 elite eight's since 2000.

OK i will bite....i said 18 straight tourneys......which means it would be 2001 tourney moving forward....which eliminates one of your final fours. The other final four congrats....always hard to do that. So 3 final fours in 18 years. You have also missed the tourney 4 times in that 18 year span.....We may only have 1 title, but we have 5 final fours in that 18 year span and 10 elite eight appearances. Again I will take the shit talking because your 2 titles trumps our one, no matter how you slice it. I agree that we should have had more tourney title success (going 1-2 in championship games over that span sucks).

Oh, I remember 2002 very well. My UK Wildcats beat your gators both times. Yeap 2000 was better as UK only beat them once. 1994 UK beat your Gators two out of three times and won the SEC Tourney at Florida's expense.

I am the one laughing out loud, dude.

Plus you will not address the pitiful following will you.

I just find it really interesting that a Florida fan would attack Kansas basketball. It is really ripe. laughing out loud

Lol, what is pathetic is the blue blood protectionism of cbb schools on this board. WGAF which team's fan responds to another team's fan. Facts are facts, whether they come from a Toledo fan or a Duke fan. Message boards are for amusing trash talk, nobody is "attacking" anyone, lol. So sad and insecure for the "basketball schools" fans.

Carolina is the nation’s first public college.

UNC has since pioneered new and unique educational opportunities, including African American studies and use of Independent Study courses to further enhance the pursuit of knowledge.

We also own UK head to head and it drives most of them insane.

Since the establishment of the National Defensive Player of the Year award in 1987, Duke players have won it 9 years.

The next most are UConn (4 times) Wake Forest (3 times) and UNLV (3 times).

I am not sad or insecure, but you like to misrepresent Florida basketball. And you DGAF.

I don't misrepresent Florida bball. I stated facts about KU and UF bball, no opinions, attacks, or misrepresentations included. You're just reading into things because you're in a pissy mood.

I am in a good mood. I am too old to be pissy as any day on the green side of the grass is very positive!SmokinSmile

My favorite college team?

Fact: Michigan finished in the top 5 in basketball and hockey polls in 2018 and is top 5 in football.

My school?

Fact: Ferris State finished #1 in DII basketball and is #2 in DII football.

Good year of sports between the two.

No worries man I never say slanderous things about other teams. I like my team too much to be constantly bitter about another team. Besides mine pisses me off way more than another team could possibly (outside of Missouri...those guys can go eat a dick). I hated watching your gator team win it all in 2007 because we beat you guys in Vegas to start the year and if KU Could have made a stupid layup against UCLA, I liked our chances against you guys (seriously KU lost by 13 to UCLA in California {all time screw job to play a lower seed in their home state} but we missed at least 10-12 layups in that game).

Edit: just went and looked at the box score from that game and it was worse than I remembered. KU missed 14 layups in that game.

Yeah, the missed layups games are the worst. If Brewer's poor family didn't need the money so bad, all those guys at UF would have come back for their Senior year and attempted the 3 peat. Noah, Horford, Green all came from families with money so didn't need to jump at NBA riches and wanted to enjoy college as long as possible but their boy Brewer came from dirt poor country family and his dad had health problems so they all decided all for one and if Brewer needed to jump then they would all jump to NBA together. Leaves one wondering if they woulda 3 peated in '08. But they wouldn't have had KEY player Lee Humphrey in '08 and he was MONEY from three during the '06 and '07 tourneys so IDK. It's all good, sorry for throwing the shade, lol.

I just went to verify that Lee Humphrey has the tourney record for most 3's made and looking at various records I saw that the '07 KU vs UCLA game was on there for "most combined steals" in a single game with 35......damn that is a ton of steals.....turnover city in that game. Is that why they had so many missed layups, because they had so many transition attempts that they blew?
