Illinois gets win #1,800 all time

Im liking this.

DePaul and Illinois play every season right ?.
Nope. The only reason this dope is spouting off is because the City of Chicago just built DePaul a shiny new $173m arena allowing the 7 Blue Demon fans in Chicagoland to puff their chests out with pride.

https://www.illinoispolicy.org/taxpayer-funded-wintrust-arena-falls-short-of-attendance-projections/

Sadly, they don’t actually attend the games because apparently they’d rather be on anonymous message boards then supporting their team in person. 67% shortfall?!? Damn dude...

Illinois has won 80% of its games against DePaul with an average MOV of 7 points. The most DePaul has ever beaten Illinois by is 4 points.

Ducked us for 60 years, refused to play us since 1957 until NCAA forced them to play us in Big10 vs BigEast challenge in 2017.

Prior to that they had played a whopping 12x so no one gives a shit about career stats from such a small sample size, especially when the bulk of that sample size happened before WWII.

I can see why they're scared to play us...gotta protect that career series advantage lol.

Oops. Forgot Sports Reference doesn't have individual games past the 50s. So we're 8 for the last 10, and 13-6 now.

Doesn't seem like it's really worth it to indulge little brother. We beat you, we remain better. We lose to you, and then we're still better with one more loss.

Either way, is anyone paying attention to DePaul? Not even DePaul fans (never seen one in real life) do.

I noticed that in those illustrious golden Illini years known as the 1950s that Illinois was a top 5 team at least 4x and was even ranked #1. I imagine the total number of national championships won by Illinois during that time was too great to count on one hand?

Notice how DePaul was unranked that entire decade, yet we never ducked Illinois. Fast forward about 20 years when DePaul was a national power and consistently in the top 5-10 nationally and of course Illinois ducked us for 50 years rather than play us when we were good.

And when its all said and done the only final score that matters between these two schools is

DEPAUL 1
ILLINOIS 0

Of course that refers to total number of national championships won. Hey, if you guys want to hang your hat on the 1950s I sure as shit can bring up 1945 baby!

Remember when DePaul was relevant? Neither does anyone under 60.

Aside from that one time you got your ass kicked by UNC in the championship and then your coach was like get me the **** out of here, when has Illinois ever been relevant?

RollLaugh

1) Bill Self was already gone. Nice fail there.
2) I think it's a much shorter conversation to mention when Illinois was not relevant.

It's embarrassing how out of touch you are.

You've been to the tourney 2x in the past 28 years.
We've been to it 2x in our worst decade in history. Laughing

Im 50, I can think of 2x in my life that Illinois was relevant. One, the aforementioned ass kicking by UNC in the title game and the quick departure to greener pastures of your coach. And two, the time when Illinois bought every good basketball player in the state brand new Chevy Blazers and Nissan Maxima's en route to a final four loss to Michigan.

DePaul has been more relevant in my lifetime than Illinois. The late 70s', early 80's alone we were more relevant in that span than Illinois has been in it's entire existence.

Be honest here...were you jacked in the back of head with a tire iron causing irreparable brain damage outside the Fullerton L stop? The reason I ask is because your posts are so factually incorrect that I’m curious if this is schtick or someone losing their marbles. I’m 50 and thank my lucky stars early onset dementia hasn’t begun to set in like with you.

You're still incorrectly spouting that Bill Self left after the NC game, so that shows how much your memory is worth. Bruce Weber coached that game.

The Flying Illini are much more remembered than anything DePaul shit out, and Illinois '05 team is one of the best in history. Also, if you're claiming the NIT championship, then I'm sure you're aware of what a Mythical national championship is and also recognize Illinois'. There goes your single claim to superiority. (Wiki link in case you're ignorant)

You've been ranked for all of 156 weeks in your existence. Illinois has been ranked for 444 weeks. I think you can do the math on who is and has been more relevant. Aside having 3x as many weeks in the top 25, we also have 2x as many tourney wins and 2.5x as many final 4 appearances.

Blouses.

back in 1945 the NIT was considered the national championship. It wasn't till many years later that then NCAA championship took that mantle from the NIT.

You'd know this if your team ever won one.

Bruce Weber, Bill Self....doesn't matter, they both couldn't wait to get the hell out of Urbana.

I won't go near the Fullerton El Stop. Been boycotting that whole corner since the mid 90s when Demon Dogs tried charging me a nickel for a ketchup packet for my fries.

no comment on your school more resembling a Chevy car dealership than a basketball program in the 80s and 90s?

I still remember the cover of the Sun Times picture of Kendall Gill posing in front of his brand new Blazer.

Lol Bruce Weber just did an interview where he planned to be an Illini for life until he was fired. Are you trying to set a record for inaccuracies?

NIT wasn't considered the national championship. There were games held between the Helms trophy, NIT, and NCAA tournament champion to decide the winner during the war - which you lost.

Your coach even acknowledged that you weren't the National Champion.

During World War II, from 1943 to 1945, the NCAA, NIT and Madison Square Garden cooperated to host "mythical national championship games" between winners of each year's NCAA and NIT tournaments in order to benefit the American Red Cross' War Fund. The series was described by Ray Meyer, coach of the losing 1945 DePaul team, as "the games for the national championship".[10] The NCAA champion prevailed in all three games.[11][12]

The funny thing is, the NIT wasn't even considered the best tournament at the time. You're just using revisionist's history to make a false claim that no one recognizes.

In 1945, following victories by the NCAA champions over the NIT champions in the Red Cross games, The New York Times indicated that many teams who could potentially get bids to enter either tournament would probably choose the NCAA tournament "because it involves stronger competition."[14]

Winning is easy and fun against DePaul fans and their team.

I'm going to go ahead and guess it's going to take awhile for you to figure out how to twist your coach claiming you weren't the National Champions into DePaul having a championship.

everything you said is bullshit. No one gives a shit about some BS tournament held AFTER the national championship. Sure, Ray said that stuff...he was trying to hype up the event.

1945 NATIONAL CHAMPS!

@Jaycg15 I’m done with this guy. Would probably try to convince the world the Carolina Panthers have a more illustrious history than the Bears. I’m done with this idiocy.

Imagine feeling so inferior that you claim a national championship that no one recognizes. I've never seen someone little brother so hard.
