Illinois gets win #1,800 all time

Im 50, I can think of 2x in my life that Illinois was relevant.

DePaul has been more relevant in my lifetime than Illinois. The late 70s', early 80's alone we were more relevant in that span than Illinois has been in it's entire existence.
I think you are a very good poster. But c'mon, man. Ain't no god damn way you believe this. I'm 47. The last time I recall DePaul being relevant was/making headlines, was when they lost to St. Joe in the NCAAT. I mean, I have nothing against DePaul. Loved Meyer(Ray). But, I mean, dumb is dumb. DePaul hasn't been to the NCAA's since 2004. Same span, Illinois has danced 7 times. I mean, bro----DePaul hasn't been relevant since they were a #1 seed three years in a row ;1980, 81 and 82.

He knows. He just won't admit it.

Who's Illinois biggest rival? I always figured it was Indiana
Illinois is in a unique position. They have the B1G’s highest historical winning percentage and are third in all time wins (behind Indiana and Purdue) but don’t really have a reciprocal rival. Geographically it would be Northwestern but NU has been a glorified high school team for the better part of a century and the historical series is very lobsided in UI’s favor.

Missouri? It’s a great rivalry but means much more to those in metro east StL and the southern part of the state than in the north.

Iowa? To those in the western part of the state but they haven’t won a conference championship since the Carter administration so... The Bruce Pearl slandering of Deon Thomas is losing steam as the decades pass.

Purdue? I’d say they look at UI as their second biggest rival but for some reason UI doesn’t consider it the same way...largely contributing to Purdue’s overall success in the series.

As a whole I’d say Indiana is UI’s biggest rival but I’d bet Indiana fans consider Illinois a distant third behind Kentucky & Purdue (maybe even Butler).

The Michigan State games are good when both teams are in the hunt but they’ve got Michigan and Ohio State as arguably bigger rivals.

Illinois has mastered the art of being consistently mediocre. Never good, never bad, just good enough to win some games. They've never had stretches of dominance that DePaul had.

And Ray Meyer sucked. Worst game coach I've ever seen. He's the reason we lost those 3 years we were #1 seeds. Moron with his 4 corner offense up 4 with 10 minutes to go. Failed every time.

Your best 10 yr run vs ours yielded this:

Average over best 10 year period:
DePaul (77-87): 24.5 W - 5.6 L. SOS 3.9.
Illinois (98-08): 25.2 W - 9 L. SOS 8.2.
Illinois (80-90): 23.2 W - 8.5 L. SOS 8.7.

DePaul (77-87): 9/10 Tournaments. 3 S16, 1 E8, 1 F4.
Illinois (98-08): 9/10 Tournaments. 2 S16, 1 E8, 1 National Runner Up.
Illinois (80-90): 9/10 Tournaments. 2 S16, 1 E8, 1 F4.

So not only do we have an equally dominating period (against tougher competition) we have a 2nd equally as dominant period. Thanks for playing again.

I'm kind enough to count your vacated seasons too. Without those, it's not even close.

What stretches of dominance did DePaul have? Did I miss a decade somewhere?

Not nearly as bad as you’re failing in this thread.
