Do you donate to your school?

I absolutely was forced into an unthinkable number of ice baths. Although at least I also was able to use a hot tub to warm up muscles too.

Did y’all have an underwater treadmill? Holy hell I felt like I was gonna drown in that a few times. Made me not want to tell them I was hurt, lol.

No underwater treadmill. That sounds interesting and awful at the same time. I always thought swimming was significantly more exhausting than running. I can only imagine what it's like exercising on an underwater treadmill. Oh, the memories of being a student athlete.

Btw, who was the distance guy that you roomed with for a year?

You both ran in college too? Indiana XC/Track alum here. I had an ice bath 6 days a week in Bloomington.

6 days a week? Mother of pearl. That's awful. I hated ice baths so much. And now my coach is telling us that ice baths may not actually be helpful.

IU has a very good program. Much respect. I ran at UNC Greensboro, which isn't exactly a powerhouse. But, we did have Paul Chelimo, who won a silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in the 5,000 meters.

I donate to United Way and the Humane Society. I might consider donating to my school after I’ve finished paying off my student loans, but definitely won’t until then.

Hah! I worked in G'boro for a bunch of years, at the Coliseum. Used to head across the street to Stamey's for cheap BBQ, and over to PJ Looney's for fries at least once a week:)

Good stuff. Lots of quality BBQ in Greensboro. My apartment was literally across the railroad tracks from the Coliseum, so I never worried about parking there. And I parked there for the ACC Tournament a few years ago. Love Greensboro.

I supported the UNCG Basketball team through some rough years. Wish the team could have had a year or two like they've had in recent years with Wes Miller.

The underwater treadmill was used for two specific purposes:
1. Rehabbing an injury where too much impact would be bad
2. Sprinters/jumpers working out on really really cold days, like highs sub-35 (since explosive movements are more prone to injury in cold weather)

Neither were all that enjoyable lol. There were jets that could be turned on and shot at you to act as an impediment, or shot from the side to force you to engage your core.

I roomed with Stephen Furst (went on to win ACC 10k I believe) and we were suite-mates/next door to Chris Kollar, Bobby Mack, and Wes Smith. Some fun/stupid times with those guys.

Just out of curiosity... do folks generally donate to their University?

NYU took enough of my money, and I have no interest in helping them purchase half of lower Manhattan (not that it will stop them). I feel bad for the poor students they have begging for donations which will (wink wink) totally be used for scholarships. And definitely not real estate for the endowment. Definitely not. For real estate.

Can't imagine that being enjoyable at all. Water exercises are brutal.

I recognize all of those names. Didn't know any of those four personally, but that's a heck of a recruiting class right there.

Oh, an NYU guy? Nice! I think I knew that...? Where did you live when you were there? I lived a bunch fi years on the corner of west 4th and Macdougal, right above Bens pizza.

It sure was. All of us scored nice points in multiple ACC meets. The only problem was, none of them ever seemed to be healthy all at the same time.

Another freshman in that class—who ended up being my friend roommate for most of college—won back to back ACC 400m hurdles. Really strong class.

I was in Jersey City across from Battery Park. I was too old for the dorms (not literally, just practically), had pets, and had too much stuff to fit into whatever tiny apartment I could find in NYC. Between that and the ridiculous income/guarantor requirements for apartments, I went became a bridge and tunnel person. Later moved up to Hoboken.

You were right by Washington Square Park? Great area (I went to the law school right there).
